Boilermakers in Final Four
It has been a long time coming. Glad Keady got to see it.

I was in 9th grade in high school when Joe Barry Carroll led Purdue to the Final Four, in March of 1980. I remember them beating St. John's in the 2nd Round, which was played on Purdue's home court. Purdue was only a #6-seed, but they were fortunate enough to get to play their first 2 games of the tournament at home ...... but they followed that up with 2 upsets of Indiana and Duke to advance to the Final Four, before falling to Kiki VanDeWegh's UCLA team. I believe that J.B. Carroll had a solid NBA career, and was underrated because of his being the #1 overall draft pick. o |

I liked Carroll a lot. I thought that he got an unfair rap in the NBA. If he had played for the Celtics, the 76ers, or the Bucks instead of the Warriors, his legacy very likely would have been much different than what it is. When Purdue made the Elite Eight in 2019, Carroll was at the games, rooting his alma mater on ...... he obviously cared if he was doing that, at the age of 60. o |

I remember in 1990, when Purdue lost a 2nd-round tournament game to Texas on a block in the final seconds. Gene Keady was REALLY UPSET in the post-game interview, telling the reporters that his kids were crying their eyes out in the locker room because the officiating throughout the game was awful. Texas went on to beat Xavier in the Sweet Sixteen in their next game, before losing to Arkansas in the Elite Eight. o |

The last time that Purdue make it to the National Championship game, Rick Mount led the Boilermakers against a UCLA team headed by Lew Alcindor, Sidney Wicks, and Curtis Rowe. https://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1...tautouclaA.jpg 3 Points: Purdue Wins Rock Fight to Advance to National Championship Game (By Israel Schuman) https://www.purdueexponent.org/sport...e37ffc790.html o |
