Zack Moss ...... Full Circle Since 2020 Bills-Colts Playoff Game

o

2 years ago, a rookie running back by the name of Zack Moss suited up for a Wildcard Playoff Game for the Buffalo Bills against the Indianapolis Colts. In a thriller that went right down to the final play of the game, Moss' Bills were able to just hang on and escape with a victory over a Colts team that was led by a 39 year-old Philip Rivers, who was finishing up a long and storied career of his own.

2 years later, that same Zack Moss was traded to the Colts for Nyheim Hynes and a conditional 6th-round draft pick in 2023 ...... and since his arrival in Indianapolis, Moss has made the most of his opportunity with a talented-but-flawed Colts team that ended up with only their 3rd losing record since the disastrous 2011 Peyton Manning-less, Andrew Luck-less season. In 8 games with the Colts, Moss gained 365 yards on only 76 carries, good for 4.8 yards-per-carry. Moss also did not fumble the ball one time, and caught 4 out of the 5 passes that were thrown to him, indicating that he can generally be counted on for ball security.

So ...... what's in store for Moss and the Colts in 2023 ??? Your guess is as good as mine, but I am excited about Moss' late-season outburst in an otherwise nightmarish season for our beloved Indianapolis Colts.

(vs. RAMS, 10/01/23)

Moss had 18 rushes for 70 yards, an 0 fumbles.

In fact, ) Moss has not fumbled the ball a single time in 142 carries ) since being acquired by the Bills last season. )

If you saw the game, you don't need any explanation and/or statistics ...... Moss was nothing short of phenomenal.

(vs. SAINTS, 10/29/23)

Moss rushed for 88 yards on 18 carries (4.9 yards-per-carry) in a losing effort against the Saints.

With Anthony Richardson out for the season, the likelihood of the 2023 Colts going very far is low ...... but they certainly appear to have a phenomenal one-two punch in their backfield with Moss and Jonathan Taylor.

After a surprisingly solid 2022 season, Moss had another good year in 2023.

The Bengals apparently think as highly of Moss as I do ...... they jettisoned their 4-time 1,000-plus-yard rusher to the Texans because of their acquisition of the former Colt.

Still think we'll regret letting him go, my understanding was he was very open to remaining a Colt! But I also really like Evan Hull, maybe the Colts believe he will be fully recovered and ready to make an impact this coming season?

Moss appeared to be one of those workhorse, reliable guys ...... he reminded me of Rob Carpenter, when he played alongside (and sometimes in place of the injured) Earl Campbell for the Oilers ...... not for their styles of running, but more so for being the solid player who unexpectedly came along and performed very well for an injured star running back (in this case, Jonathan Taylor was the proverbial Earl Campbell to Moss's Rob Carpenter.)

In a 1979 divisional playoff game against the San Diego Chargers, Carpenter filled in for an injured Earl Campbell, leading the team in rushing with 67 yards while also catching 4 passes for 23 yards in a 17–14 upset victory ...... despite being barely recovered from a knee injury himself, as he was still literally on crutches just before the start of the game.

I'm getting way off base here. But what I most remember about that game is Fouts throwing 4 int's to one guy.
