Just added the second tweet from Rapoport. Looks like it results in $6.85MM in cap savings (with no dead money) according to the website Overthecap. |
Quote:
$45MM doesn't include the Rivers signing. It was closer to $20MM after deducting the Rivers contract and prior to this move. |

Weird move. Do we really need the cap space? Targeting another bigish signing?
Goes a bit against what ballard used to preach in terms of competition, play well, get paid. Maybe they weren’t happy enough with his play last year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I left for a long time just fed up with the overall NFL product in general, not necessarily anything happening with the shoe. Of course now I am parched and my stomach rumbles with hunger pains...
Consider me puzzled... Desir can play the position, maybe it is a question about chronic injury that will limit him going forward... otherwise I don't get it... I don't like the Rivers move, why, who the F is he going to throw to? I get the whole "as recently as 2018 he was in the MVP hunt late into the season", but man- we got NOTHING going at WR for him to work with this year... I love Buckner, should free up Darius to get back to running around smacking people downhill... and listening to him on the radio, I think that dude is going to come in here looking to prove he may be 1A to Donald's 1 this year but looking to take the mantle the following year. |
Any good FA CB"s left? I doubt it. I guess we will draft another CB or two and hope they play well.
|
Yeah I didn’t see this coming either, perhaps not as valuable with Hopkins gone

no thanks to that list--look draftward.

Ballard must have more faith in Tell/Wilson than most folks do.
|
Reading where this has to do with cap savings. WTF? Does Ballard have his eye on another big time free agent defensive lineman?
|
Hope this doesn't come back to bite us.
|
I think he goes CB early in the draft
|
There is a ton of rollover, 40 mil?, from last year that we won’t have next year. I doubt we make anymore big splashes unless JB is traded/cut.

This one is a head scratcher for me. Despite his drop off last year (presumably due to injury) he's probably our best outside CB and since his remaining contract is all non-guaranteed salary we could have cut him during camp w/out any cap implications.
Hopefully Ballard has a plan in place for increased cap space. |

Didn't take long.......Desir signs with the Jets

So the Jests have signed Desir and Andrews. No team like Coats castoffs more than the Jests. There may be over half a dozen former Coats on the Jests roster.

It is the Rex Hogan effect. |
The Desir decision is the weirdest one so far this year. I don't like it, but I'm trusting in Ballard. I don't like keeping JB either, especially at that wage, but as I said before...
I don't think they'll play the NFL season this year anyway, so ultimately it probably won't matter. |

Also, the season will start. Stay positive. |

Looks like Desir got a one year deal from the Jets at $3.75M, and could increase to $5.5M with incentives.

Even with the signing of Rhodes, having Desir on the roster as well would have been nice. |

Well Z. Keefer mentioned that the Colts were open to his return "if the opportunity presented itself" (tweet on first page of this thread) In the past, if Ballard doesn't want to pay top dollar on a free agent contract, he usually tells the player / agent to go explore the open market and see what you can get. Then come back to the Colts before you sign and see if they want to match / beat. For instance, they did that with Geathers last year. If Desir had a sour taste from his release, maybe he didn't come back to Ballard after he scored the Jets offer. |
