quick thoughts on the gay ass chargers
1) i thought reich had some good looks and bad looks. the 2nd half of understanding that we were struggling up front and we needed to pound them was beautiful.
we simply weren't winning up front until we went run heavy. wore that dline down. which is something i didnt think they could do to start out. that said, we really could have used some playaction to back them off or just win deep. we didn't challenge the chargers deep enough. we have speed. threaten it. 2) brissett was good. hopefully going forward Reich will let him play ball more. he seemed a bit hand cuffed with all the screens and nonsense reich called. i am not worried about brissett throwing downfield. my only real complaint is he still lacks touch. seemed to look better in the pocket though 3) can't complain about the wrs. they did what they were asked to do for the most part. gotta love ty and that td. just awesome 4) quiet day for the te's. loved that doyle stiff arm. really wish ebron could have hung on to the td 5) glowinski looked bad to start. smith got destroyed by bosa once. overall, once they settled down, they performed really well. still worry about their pass protection but 1st game was not too bad 6) we need beef up front. these dudes are too light. we get ran on. this wont stop. hunt was invisible. ward got blown off the line in the run game. autry had some good snaps but still got pushed around. just not winning the line of scrimmage up front 7) houston has some game left. dude looked real good at times. turay was abusing that backup lt. really quick off the line and showed some good hand usage at times. need to see that against quality tackles. good to see banogu get home unblocked. 8) fuck the pats 9) that hooker int gave me a boner 10) how the refs weren't calling holding is beyond me. on the allen td, the dude had turay in a bear hug. some of those long runs should have been called back. 11) welcome to the nfl willis and rock 12) vinnie was shit and lost us the game. straight up. figure it out or take him behind the barn and end it. 13) more deep passes are needed. more parris campbell. 14) cain and funchess were ok. |
Brissett lacks touch but you want him to throw deep more often? Wouldn't that lead to more turnovers? Sure, it would be nice to see the occasional deep ball, but I'm ok with game manager Jacoby since even with all of the crapola, the Colts were still there at the end.

That bogus hitting a defenseless player penalty that led to the Chargers first touchdown really pissed me off. The Chargers did the same thing, only WORSE on every Vinatieri fg attempt, especially the one right before halftime. On that one, 2 players sandwiched the long snapper and knocked him flat on his ass. No call.
That was bullshit. |

Didn't Reich do something like this with Luck at the beginning of last year? It seems like it took several games before he started becoming more aggressive last year. I think some people even thought that there might be something wrong with Lucks arm. Maybe this is Reich's way. Weird to be so conservative though.

especially when you have deep threats like TY and Cain Reich may have just been cautious with this being Brissetts first game as starter in this offense at least, may do that more, I hope as the season progresses Oh and Rock....come on man, have to knocked down that BS jump ball shit that Rivers threw for the TD. |

I thought it was you can't line up over the center. And the Colts didn't. They were lined up outside of him and then rushed the line, you can't avoid hitting the center completely. |
#12 👍👍 dude lost us the game and got out kicked by a punter, goat or not what he’s done in 25 years don’t mean shit this season

Couldn't agree more on just about everything you said.
IMO Ebron deserves more criticism than "would have been nice if he had hung on to that TD pass". He should have had that and it was 1 of the 2 fuck ups from someone other than AV that cost us the game (the FG penalty was the other, but maybe that was just a BS call). Not going deep was probably influenced by the amount of pressure LAC was able to get on us, especially early on. Although I agree it would have been nice to have taken some deep shots off of play action after we got the running game going. Overall, pretty encouraging performance as we went to OT and should have won against a really good team on a west coast trip. Fix the fuck ups and the kicking game and we should be good to go. |
Just a few things to add:
1) STOP with the screens, especially on 2nd and long. When the Colts run them, there’s a high probability of zero or negative yardage which kills your drive. Only run them on 1st or 3rd and long. 2) Was it just me, or did Walker get benched in the 2nd half only to come back out for OT? He looked downright terrible on several plays. 3) Same goes for Kenny Moore. Make a tackle. Or better yet, make a play of any sort. 4) They got burned a ton in man today. If you’re going to play man, you better cover better than that. 5) The DL just missed Rivers on several occasions. Really frustrating since any one of those could’ve swayed the game. Overall, there was a lot to like: Mack, run blocking, Brissett, TY, Funchess and Cain making contested grabs. The defense and Vinatieri just killed them today. They nearly overcame those factors against a really good team, so I’m encouraged that this is still a team that can win the AFC South. Big game next week against TENN. |

I looked at the extended highlights again last night and it was really apparent how bad the interior DL and LBs were yesterday. The DL got zero penetration, which is their only chance with their size. |
I have very little worries about Brissett now. The most important thing is that he took care of the ball. Didn't do anything stupid. Then to be down to a damn good team by 15 points on the road in the fourth quarter (and the two minute drive in the first half) and he lead us to a tie. If he stays this steady our issues will not be at quarterback. This man can lead a TEAM to the promised land. This team is Brissett's, Luck has as much relevance as Manning does to this team (I mean that in a good positive way). Feeling about as good as I can after a loss.

It's kind of ridiculous we lost this game with that many rushing yards. You have to play smart mistake-free football against playoff teams. |

Not to harp on it, but the OT rules really irritate me. People will say "you need to get a stop," but it's systematically unfair to the team that loses the toss. You need 2 positive outcomes in order to win (stop + score), whereas the team that wins the toss only needs 1 positive outcome (TD) to win. It's the most ludicrous setup for extended play in all pro sports. Just think about it: NBA: each team gets 5 minutes, equal chance at possession MLB: each team gets 3 outs on an inning by inning basis Soccer: equal 15 minutes extra periods, followed by 5 penalty shots NHL: golden goal, but each team has equal chance at possession |

There is a very simple solution to this overtime issue that would solve it all pretty fairly. They should do what I understood was the rule in NFL Europe when it existed Each team gets one possession of the ball. If the score is still tied after each team gets one possession, then its sudden death, just like the old rules. First team to score wins. |

The secondary play overall was not that good. Geathers looked pretty bad out there, Kenny Moore was getting burned. My biggest fear was this dline is not big enough and it showed yesterday. I hope this is not going to go on all season. Teams are going to go after the interior dline till they can show they can stop the run. Yeah yeah 'last season' someone will say, but this is a new season and teams have had an offseason to scheme. Everytime we play the Chargers we seem to fall into the trap of letting them utilize their strengths. Until we learn to take the strengths of teams away we will be a good team not great. How many freaking screens have the Chargers run at us over the years? Seems like amillion and they always work. Still despite all that we should have won if just one or two mistakes go our way. The offsides, the Ebron catch, just one of Vinnie's misses. Long season to go and already injuries are shaping the AFC. |

You know, Omaha may not get everything right, but he always gets the name of the opponent 100% correct.

Yea, he could have just called them the "ass chargers," saying gay as well is a bit redundant.
