Would Jordan Howard (RB - Bears) be an upgrade?

Bears fans always sound down on the guy since he apparently doesn't fit Nagy's system. He puts up numbers, but is he an upgrade if the cost is a later round pick?

DrSpaceman 01-27-2019 02:48 PM

Not really.

A slight upgrade. Like everything it depends on the salary, but I don't think he would be enough of an upgrade to justify the money he likely wants as a FA.

apballin 01-27-2019 02:56 PM

No way

JAFF 01-27-2019 02:58 PM

I'm not sure the Colts want an upgrade. I think if they could find a Marlon Mack clone who was better at chatching, they would sign him and rotate Mack, Hines and Player X.

I think the Wilkins kid could really be a big plus for the Colts next season. He doesn't dance around, he puts his nose in the gap and runs hard. If he could be the guy to be a balanced runner/receiver, the O would be very interesting to watch

Ballard seems content with his current stable, which likely means no Bell, no Hunt, and no Howard.

If you aren't Payton, you aren't good to Bears fans. I think Ballard looked into acquiring him a few years ago. At least there was a rumor for it. But I don't know now. He is a good player.

Howard seemed to lose a gear between 17 and 18. While I think a power back is something to consider, I would look elsewhere.

We don't need Howard, Deon Cain is a threat to score every time he gets the ball. Just stick him back there and run jet sweeps.

This is going to get real old, real quick.

Deon Cain is no Mike Doss.

Walk Worthy,

no need to upgrade... Marlon Mack is the best RB the colts have ever had

Jordan Howard RB-CHI

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Bears are shopping Jordan Howard via trade.

Howard is a one-dimensional early-down back entering the final year of his contract. He was fine with a 260-970-9 rushing line while averaging just over 3.7 YPC, but Howard just doesn't seem to fit the way coach Matt Nagy likes to call a game. Tarik Cohen is deserving of more work, and Nagy likely prefers backs that can contribute in all phases. At one point last year, there were rumors the Dolphins were interested in Howard. He wouldn't bring back anything more than a late pick.

DOB (Age): 11/2/1994 (24)
HT/WT: 6' 0" / 224 lbs.
College: Indiana
Drafted: 2016 / Rd. 5 (150) / CHI

2018 Stats

If a late round pick is all that is being asked I would make the call.
Any thoughts?

Reich wants the same dynamic type of RBs Nagy wants, so if he doesn't fit that offense, he won't fit this one. Besides, the Colts have a fairly talented group at RB, and if they really want an upgrade, Le'veon Bell is definitely an upgrade, and all he costs is cap space, with which the Colts are flush.

Howard is like a poor man's Adrian Peterson. Good player but I don't think he fits here.

DrSpaceman 03-01-2019 12:03 PM

I just can't see trading for a RB of any type, Howard or otherwise.

I like Howard. he is a good back. But you just don't see many trades for RBs anymore and he isn't that much better than what the Colts have already

rcubed 03-01-2019 01:31 PM

ballard is not trading any picks for a RB or most likely for anyone else.

Colt Classic 03-01-2019 04:30 PM

Seems like the shelf life of a running back is 3-5 good years, if that. They spent a decent pick to get Mack, roll with him and keep churning the depth, if needed. There just isn't any value in paying up for a running back, be it Bell or others.
