Darius Leonard has: 135 tackles (17 more than second place in one less game), 7 sacks, 5 passes defensed, 1 interception, 4 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.

Bob Sanders won DPOY in 2007 with the following stat line:

96 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 6 passes defensed, 2 interceptions and 1 fumble recovery.

I agree he should be........ but they are overhyping Vander-Douche in Dallas. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets it. Would be a crime but Cowgirls get their way a lot.

Jerry Jones will probably pay to have Hookers suck the right people to make it happen.

One is a MLB and the other is a safety, but I get the point. he has been impressive this year

I don't really care if he gets DROY. Would be nice if he does, but not a top priority or thought for me

I'm just excited about his future here.

What Ballard did with the trade and the picks the first two rounds of last year's draft is why you pay GMs huge money and is the type of moves that create championship teams.

The awards are nice, but maybe I am numb to it with Manning and all his records and give MVPs.

Gotta say, if Ol Jerruh paid a hooker to suck me off, I’d probably vote for Vander Esch.

Was thinking the exact same thing.

The national sites have definitely been giving Vander Esch the love because he plays for "America's Team". I don't give a fuck, Leonard is better. I would love if he got DROY but if he doesn't I'll console myself with the fact that RG3 won OROY won over Luck.

True, but Leonard was on Golic and Wingo this morning and did very well. His national profile is growing.......perhaps not enough to overcome a full court press from the Cowgirls media machine but he is representing himself very well off and on the field.

For comparison LVE has 108 tackles, 2 ints, 0 ff, 0 sacks, and 7 PDs. The comparison is not even close, if Leonard doesn't win DROY it would be a crime imo.

Leonard can proceed to lock this up Sunday, when they go head to head.

If we shut down Zeke and Leonard is a big part of that, then he becomes the hands down favorite.

Luckily I'll be at that game to witness it.

I never underestimate the ability for people to fuck up the nfl awards. I do t think he wins dpoy

sherck 12-12-2018 08:33 AM

So, for comparison:

Leonard, 12 games played:
135 tackles (11.25 per game), 7.0 sacks, 8 QB Hits, 5 PD, 1 INT, 4 FF and 2 FR

Vander Esch, 13 games played:
109 tackles, (08.38 per game) 0.0 sacks, 1 QB Hits, 7 PD, 2 INT, 0 FF and 0 FR

Why is this even a discussion?

I don't care if he wins it but I am so, so, so pleased by his production. He will be a beast for years to come.

Walk Worthy,

ukcolt 12-12-2018 08:48 AM

Colts defense are going to be really tested with 2 of the best running backs in the next 2 weeks with Zeke Elliott and then Saquon Barkley. If we do well against both of them, then that will enhance his already growing reputation no end.

No, he won't win dpoy. That will go to Aaron Donald and deservedly so. Leonard should be in the conversation though.

16.5 sacks is pretty phenomenal. I think Leonard will win DROY, but perhaps not DPOY. A good bit of both depends on the next three games as well.

My guess is that he misses on both. Vander Esch because the NFL slobbers on the cowboy's knob. Donald because the Rams are a hell of a lot better than we are.

rm1369 12-12-2018 10:00 AM

I don’t see much hyping Vander Esch as a favorite for DROY. Certainly he’s in the running, but I don’t think even the Dallas hype machine can make up the necessary ground. It will either be Leonard or Derwin James. Obviously I’m partial to Leonard, but I couldn’t complain to much if it was James. Guys a stud. Could be a big week in the race with both playing important high profile games - Leonard against Dallas and James against KC. If James has an impressive game against KC on Thursday night that would tip the scales in his favor IMO.

Knowing we have at least one true difference maker on D is huge to me. Only nitpick I have is that I’ve now seen Leonard miss a few tackles going for the strip. Anyone else notice that? Or am I just wrong? I love that they are attacking the ball and I commented on the apparent emphasis on that very early in the season. But you have to secure the tackle.

Oldcolt 12-12-2018 11:22 AM

You strip the ball and get it for your team your chances go way up to win. You miss that tackle and your chances to lose don't go way up. This is a team that was not known for causing turnovers. That has changed dramatically and I love it. I'm cool with an occasional missed tackle if it is because you are trying to cause a turnover. I just love the attitude of the entire team

Pez 12-12-2018 12:25 PM

8th best in takeaways... that's fantastic. 11th best overall defense.

Omaha said before the season that this defense "wasn't any good" and there was no one that could really dispute that.

To be in the top 3rd in yard allowed and the top 10 in takeaways is just fscking stunning.

Yeah I'm with you. I haven't seen realistic LVE hype. Realistically, it's Leonard vs Derwin James v Chubb. I think all three have a case.

blows my mind

Even knowing we played a lot of shit teams. They play sound football. Not a lot of blown coverages

Let's put this argument to bed. Name the best defensive player on the Colts. Hell, ask a Cowgirls fan to name any defensive player on the Colts. Then name the best defensive player on the Cowgirls. LVE is maybe the 3rd name on that team, more likely 4th or 5th. To me it's not even an argument. Leonard is doing this with a pedestrian cast around him.
