Sometimes players need a few years to develop. Or they are just used wrong. Could be city, could be team. But Detroit was pretty toxic to him, you can read it in the comments. Hard to succeed in that environment. Just glad he is working out for us.

He's still hit or miss but he's mostly been a good addition.

Ebron can't block and still has the random bad drop, but he's been huge for us in the red zone and has really carried a ton of the weight with Doyle being hurt. I've considered it a good signing so far.

I don’t really like the dude

That said he has played well enough

Or sometimes they realize that they could be out of the league quick & step up their game & really focus on the importance that they need to produce.

Yup, getting cut can be a reality check for a lot of guys.

You don’t like him as a person? Is it because you see him as a showboater? I think he’s got a little of that perhaps, but he seems to make plays so I don’t hold it against him. Doesn’t seem too obnoxious.

Yeah. He is too demonstrative. All the time. It is annoying.

I don't care how demonstrative a player is if he backs it up with his play. Ebron mostly has, though I'd like to see him break out and really be a top 5 TE. He should be used more especially since our WRs are garbage.

His stats so far this year suggest he's already a top 5 receiving TE. He's on pace for 80 catches (would have been 2nd last year), 869 yards (3rd last year) and 16 TDs (1st last year).

I don't expect him to have 16 TDs by the end of the year, but it's pretty likely he'll exceed 10 (which was last years top TE). I think the projected catch and yardage numbers are well within reach, and maybe low due to the lack of other great receiving options and the fact that he's been sitting out a lot of plays so far.

He's done well. Maybe his competition is low though. I'd like to see him play near or at the same level as Gronk or Travis Kelce. I think he can do it.

He seems like he never wanted to play in Detroit and is too happy to be out of there. He has been a good signing so far, but there's just something about him that makes me think that he doesn't work very hard or put in maximum effort. It's just my gut feeling though.

1965southpaw 10-17-2018 11:29 AM

Agree...with the injuries (Doyle, Hilton) and the poor performance of our receivers (Rodgers, Pascal) I can't imagine not having him........this year. As to his future with the colts, I really wish he would develop his blocking ability. Even though our line is improving, with injuries and with a need to have some sort of deep ball threat we need our TE's to do both.

So basically you want him on par with the two best TE’s. In the league.

Yes. Or just below. He has the physical skill set. He has Luck throwing the ball. He has Reich calling the plays. I think he’s shown mental weakness in how much he has let fans get in his head in the past. If he can mature past that I don’t see what is stopping him from being at that level.

He isn't going to be those guys. He doesn't need to be. He's playing at a top 5 TE level right now on the receiving side and that's what we need. It's highly unlikely that he's going to develop into a blocker or all around TE.

His biggest drawback is like you said, his mentality. He can let things get to him, and he can do some really stupid shit on the field at times, dumb penalties at the worst times, etc.

He has been better than we expected when he was brought in though.

I actually expected him to be about where he is: a top TE.
He was very good in Detroit until things went sour. I just hope it does not repeat that here.
