Luck is Throwing

Per Frank Reich today

Quote:

Reich says Andrew Luck IS throwing a football in a rehab context. Doesn't sound like he's letting it rip yet, but that is on the way at some point this offseason.
- Holder

Quote:

Sounds like the "letting it rip" stage could come in April and May, when Luck is expected to be a part of #Colts offseason workouts.

But I thought his arm had fallen off and the franchise was doomed.

Good to hear, we will have an extremely young team this year. But with just Luck we should have more wins than last year.

1965southpaw 03-27-2018 11:21 AM

Listening to Big Joe talk about Andrew right now and he mentioned that he had played hurt for so long that his mechanics had changed dramatically from his pre-injury days.....consequently in addition to rehabbing his shoulder throwing baseballs he has also been working on his hips and feet and getting those mechanics straightened back out. .......which is something this House guy is supposed to be good at fixing for baseball players. I'm Eager to see the "new and improved Luck 2.0, especially in a modern offensive scheme.

I wish they had just fixed this properly the first time around. Was it the coaching staff, management, or him that prevented that from happening I do not know. But I’m glad they finally addressed it.

Yeah, the video they showed of his change in throwing motion was striking (and damning). I think it was during the Thursday night game against the Broncos.

Yes.

YDFL Commish 03-27-2018 02:53 PM

So much of Luck's throwing motion was predicated on his arm, I can see how this would be an issue.

Hopefully this guy, House, is making Luck more of a body thrower, ala Manning and Brady, who never had the strongest arms but used their body torque to generate velocity.

Maniac 03-27-2018 06:16 PM

Wait, I thought that testtube guy said we are supposed to give up on him and trade him?

LOL. I am on a couple of other Colt boards and there are more people who say trade Luck to Cleveland. These idiots need to think about what they are saying. If Luck is healthy, no way the Colts trade him. If he is not healthy, who the hell is going to trade for him. SMDH.

For a body thrower, that basically kills all velocity, especially in Manning's case, after the neck surgery.

Johnny U basically said the same thing toward the end of his career. His arm was fine, but the legs were shot.

I hope the optimism is warranted, but unless they fix the O-line he's got about six games before he is on permanent disability

The history of rebuilt QBs halfway or more through their career isn't promising

Halfway or more? Six isn't half of 20...

In an interview, Peyton discussed a conversation he had with John Madden. Madden advised him early in his career to keep building strength in his legs because that would help him perform and prolong his career.

I think that was Parcells, not Madden. "Legs legs legs. Do your squats."

Six is 2/3 of 9, a more realistic number given the beatings and injuries so far

Somewhat similar to when people were telling me (after seeing me wearing my Colts jacket and hat) that Peyton Manning was done while the Colts were going 2-14 during the 2011 season.

Manning WAS done with the Colts, but he certainly WAS NOT done overall (which is what they were asserting.)

Not throwing NFL footballs according to today's information. But he says he will when the time is right. Here's hoping!

"Andrew Luck offered a mixed update regarding the recovery of his injured shoulder Monday, saying he "pushed a little too hard" during his fall rehabilitation and "paid for it," according to Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star."

He added of his recovery: "I've skipped steps before and I've paid for it before, and I'm not gonna do that again."

Yeah, I took it as mostly positive. Assuming he didn’t do any damage by pushing to hard it explains they delay and shut down in a slightly less concerning way. He was pushing to get back and play is better than there are structural issues or issues with the surgery. We obviously don’t know anything for sure, but I’m going to look at it in a positive light.

Puck 04-09-2018 09:09 PM

Sounds a lot like last summer. No timetable, not gonna skip steps, hopefully be ready, etc etc.

We know how that turned out.

He was still healing from the surgery last offseason.

He'll be fine.

I believe he is currently throwing the novelty footballs they give out at high school games and is about to transition over to nerf balls.

Luck will do no throwing during mini camp. Per Florio.

Pro tip-do NOT read the comments. A lot of bitter Pats fans still butthurt that they got caught cheating.

Pats fans are so bitter. For a team that wins so much their fanbase is so insecure. But I guess that’s what happens if you are caught cheating so much.

I was honestly over my hatred of the Pats prior to us getting McDaniels as our new head coach.

The "McDaniels backshuffling bugaloo" rekindled my hatred for all things Patriots for a short time but I can honestly say that I am over it again.

Don't hate them. Don't like them. Much like I feel about, say, the Panthers. Got nothing for or against them anymore.

That said, I still dislike much of their fanbase becasue, as stated above, they are massively insecure because they understand that, deep down, their team is not worthy of the acolyades that they receive due to cheating and so they are overcompensating by trying to push their love of all things Pats to balance out the dislike from the rest of the country.

It is really going to hit the fan when Brady is knocked out and injured and they end up with a 5 win season. That stuff is going to get loud.

I am an eternal optimist so I'm not fussed that he's not throwing at minicamp. As long as he's making progress AND is throwing in August at training camp I think he'll be fine. Meantime, physically his body looks good....He's clearly put muscle back on and having him do snaps and handoffs and generally being engaged at minicamp is HUGE. He needs those reps to make sure he regains that muscle memory and more importantly has as much time as possible to learn Franks's new offense which we all hope will be markedly different than Pags/Chud's approach. That IS Progress.

You're probably a better man than me sherck because I hate the Patriots and their chickenshit fans and always will. In the immortal words of Val Kilmer's Doc Holiday, I hate em.
