Who Do You Want As Our QB For 2026?

So with Daniel Jones likely out until mid 2026 at best (if we even re-sign him and if he even wants to re-sign with us)...what now?

Anthony Richardson? No.

Riley Leonard? You seriously can't come up with a better option than a 6th round pick?

Brett Rypien? Now you're not even trying.

We obviously don't have a 1st round pick this year (or next). Not that I particularly want a rookie QB, but this also means no draft capital to go get another one.

Kyler Murray with a 2nd round pick, anyone?

I'm guessing the next Colts GM will be making that call. Will likely need to trade for someone.

Brylok 12-08-2025 05:22 PM

I think it will most likely be:

D. Jones - signed to a much cheaper, 2 year deal. He will miss all of the off season and training camp, and probably won't play...at least until late in the season, but he'll be signed and available for 2027.

A. Richardson - he's on the last year of his contract, and if he's ever going to do anything, the time is now. IF he can even play football anymore. I've heard that his eye injury isn't healing as well as expected.

R. Leonard - he's under contract and will have 4.5 NFL starts under his belt. Knows the system. Hopefully he stays healthy between now and next year.

QB 4 on standby just in case - no idea

Who I want doesn't matter. I don't know who that would be right now, anyway. Kyler Murray is too small and doesn't care about football. He's a huge NO.

I have only heard crickets. How bad is it, really?

ChoppedWood 12-08-2025 06:23 PM

I am telling you, this is a prime landing spot for Aaron Rodgers to play another year in the league.

He had surgery for it 7 weeks ago, but he's still having trouble with blurred vision from the repaired eye. Doctor's are concerned because he shouldn't be.

Puck 12-08-2025 07:07 PM

My fear is it may be Russel Wilson or Jamarcus Russel

Hell. I'd rather see if Rivers could play over those two

I hope they let the kid have his chance.

YDFL Commish 12-08-2025 07:45 PM

Jacoby Brissett.

apballin 12-08-2025 07:57 PM

Riley Leonard

CletusPyle 12-08-2025 07:59 PM

If Riley doesn't look like a legit option by the end of the season, go after Dillion Gabriel, Cleveland may just be willing to let him go!

Racehorse 12-08-2025 08:13 PM

Rivers?

Mac Jones will be a cheap free agent but not sure I want him

Actually that's not a bad idea considering our options.

Get thee hence!

Hoopsdoc 12-08-2025 08:45 PM

I wouldn’t be opposed to Mac Jones or even Kyler Murray, provided Arizona pays part of his salary.

Remember, Danny Dimes was having a career year here before he broke his leg.

I think Steichen can work with guys who can throw with accuracy and both those guys can do that.

I prefer “get thee behind me, Satan!!!”

But HELL no to Aaron Rogers. I’ll take up knitting if that happens.

Luck. Let me make some calls.

Fuck it, if we're gonna take a run a Phil, might as well pull together a Zoom tomorrow with Tom, Peyton, and Eli while we are at it. Anybody know if Elway is still looking for one last hoorah?

Puck 12-08-2025 09:39 PM

Holy Shit. I was just thinking out loud.

@RapSheet
The #Colts are planning to bring potential Hall of Fame QB Philip Rivers into their facility Tuesday to work out to see if he may join their practice squad, per me &
@MikeGarafolo
.

This is real. Daniel Jones’ season is over, Riley Leonard will start, but Rivers may be an option.

Racehorse 12-08-2025 09:53 PM

Get AR healthy and trade him even for Levis, lol

CletusPyle 12-08-2025 10:24 PM

Riley will be working with the first team all week, I saw some things I liked Sunday.....I actually think he is pretty good and might be very good by the end of the season.

Puck 12-08-2025 10:25 PM

Rivers and Shane are close. Rivers runs Shanes offense. Maybe he will be able to change up some plays when Shane gets too pass happy.

Also has a great relationship with Leonard so he should be able to help the Rook be prepared

CletusPyle 12-08-2025 10:32 PM

Of course, Leonard has a strained right knee and might not even be able to play Sunday....will the curse ever end?

Daniel Jones and Riley Leonard, ala Johnny Unitas and Earl Morrall.

Fortunately, Jones and Leonard are both younger and more mobile than Unitas and Morrall were when they played for the Colts between 1968 and 1971.

Drew Bledsoe got hurt and was the only reason Brady sniffed the field. Turned out ok for them. Give Riley the entire playbook the rest of the way and see what he can actually do. We know he can run and to be honest he played better than I anticipated given the circumstances. He had a couple good drives and never once looked like it was to big for him. How'd Purdy get the starting gig? Let the kid play and quit wanting to reach into the trash heap.

The problem is he is not good in the pocket- never has been, all the way back to Duke and through ND. He is in some ways very similar to AR. Get him in space and let him create, he can be good, he can create explosive plays. Make him sit back and process, he is slow to see it and his accuracy is MAYBE a slight uptick from AR. Lot's of 3rd and longs and lots of long fields.

Maybe true coming out of college, but definitely had a more decorated college career and has been a student of the game preparing and learning from Daniel Jones.

Outside of Earl Morrall's 1968 MVP season and 2 games that Morrall played in 1970, Unitas and Morrall were not very good quarterbacks for the seasons that they played together between 1969 and 1971 ...... in fact, they were rather shitty themselves.

Daniel Jones' was a better quarterback in this 2025 season than either Morrall or Unitas were between 1969 and 1971. And yes, I am taking into consideration the fact that the rules protecting quarterbacks and inhibiting defenders are way different now than they were between those 1969 and 1971 seasons. Jones was a good quarterback on the whole this year, particularly before he broke his left fibula. Unitas and Morrall were slightly below average quarterbacks from 1969 through 1971 who were playing on great teams.

His pocket awareness seemed ok Sunday, albeit a small sampling to judge by. Not a lot to say about his accuracy, again small sampling to go by. How he handles a day of blitzes every other play? Don't know, that is what we need to find out. Again, Brady and Purdy had a lot of negatives around them as well which lead to their draft positioning. I'm all for seeing what he has with the entire offensive playbook open to him. He has been in the system long enough that it shouldn't be scaled back for him. He either has it, or he don't and we are back to square one. I mind you, square one sucks at the moment!

If they use his legs like philly did the last 2 year with hurts.

Dam8610 12-10-2025 01:02 AM

The Colts committed to Daniel Jones when they traded for Sauce Gardner. There's no reason to change that now. There's a new procedure for Achilles tears that makes the recovery time 6-9 months, which is plenty of time for Jones to be ready for 2026.
