K Spencer Shrader tore multiple ligaments, out for year

Not a surprising outcome based on looking at the video of the injury.

Wishing Shrader a speedy recovery.

Colts K Spencer Shrader tore multiple ligaments, a source confirms after Pat McAfee Show’s report from earlier.

Awful break for a guy who won AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in his first month as a starting NFL kicker

Can confirm Colts K Spencer Shrader suffered season-ending knee injury vs. Raiders. Yes, that sucks.

Thorgrim 10-06-2025 01:16 PM

F’n raiders.

albany ed 10-06-2025 01:18 PM

That's a fuckin' shame. He may never recover from this and that's gonna cost him millions.

Hoopsdoc 10-06-2025 01:44 PM

Yeah, that’s awful. I feel terrible for him.

I like him because he kicks with confidence.

Is he even under contract for next season?

Yes, the Colts signed Shrader to a 2 year contract.

However, there is no guaranteed money allotted for next year.

Considering the surrounding heartbreaking circumstances, I suspect that Carlie Irsay-Gordon will financially compensate Shrader one way or the other ...... remember, Jim Irsay was entitled to recoup $10 Million from Andrew Luck when Luck retired abruptly just before the start of the 2019 season, and he chose not to ....... as I recently said in another thread, I believe that the 2nd and 3rd generations of the Irsay family (Jim and Carlie) see the forest for the trees in terms of being long-sighted, and creating and preserving their legacies.

Dirty-ass Raiders strike again. We probably need a new, long term kicker. Nobody can tell me that wasn't intentional.

Pez 10-06-2025 02:40 PM

That sucks ass, he hopefully still has a promising career, but words like "multiple" used in the same sentence as "ligaments" is likely Bad news for a professional kicker.

AlwaysSunnyinIndy 10-06-2025 02:52 PM

In Steichen's press conference, Shane said that it looks like Shrader tore both his ACL and MCL.

YDFL Commish 10-06-2025 05:56 PM

Fuck the Raiders! Fuck Tom Brady who wholeheartedly embraces the cheating! Fuck Mark Davis for moving them to LV and having a cartoon haircut.

The best thing the Raiders could do for us is trade us Maxx Crosby for AR.

CletusPyle 10-06-2025 06:54 PM

Michael Badgley is available from what I see, we had him a few years ago and he was decent, maybe there are others?

HoosierinFL 10-07-2025 08:25 AM

I am so pissed about this. Dude was having a season. Looking like best kicker in the league kind of season. Best kicking weve had since AVs better years.

And ruined by a dumbass dirty play

Pez 10-07-2025 11:31 AM

I missed it when I watched live... I cant believe how late it was... he had both feet on the ground before he got blew up.

I'm sure McCollum will be fined, a suspension would seem more appropriate, but would the 1-4 raiders really be impacted by a suspension of their 2nd string safety...

AlwaysSunnyinIndy 10-07-2025 01:08 PM

So I was wondering about this during the last game.

Obviously Rigo is the backup kicker in case of emergency / injury. But normally Rigo is the holder on FGs...so who is the backup holder?

And the beat reporters asked Brian Mason about it today.

So...right now if the Kicker gets injured, that will mean all three members of the FG unit: long snapper, holder and kicker get changed.

I can see why Steichen was a bit hesitant to kick without more practice / reps.

Colts Special Teams Coordinator Brian Mason says that TE Drew Ogletree and TE Tyler Warren are the team's backup long snappers.

LS Luke Rhodes is the backup holder.

P Rigoberto Sanchez is the backup kicker.

Here were a few of the guys they brought in for a workout. Also, depending on who they select, they may have Rigo start handling kickoffs again.

My understanding is Michael Badgley, who kicked for the Colts in 2021, is a possibility to replace Spencer Shrader.

Dustin Hopkins, Matt Ammendola among the others who were at today's workout.

Brian Mason . . . added that punter Rigoberto Sanchez could potentially handle kickoffs moving forward. TBD on that.

Colts are signing Badgley.

The Colts are signing K Michael Badgley to the active roster, sources tell me and Mike Garafolo.

After Spencer Shrader's season-ending knee injury, Indy moves forward with Badgley, who kicked for Indy in 2021 and is healthy after missing last season because of injury.

Butter 10-07-2025 02:54 PM

Could have done worse.

Hoopsdoc 10-07-2025 03:47 PM

I guess they didn’t like Trujillo, who they had in preseason.

He was cut with an injury settlement, can they resign him the same season?

The answer will depend based on the injury settlement terms.

If a player and team agree to an injury settlement, a player is released and compensated for the estimated amount of time in which the injury would keep the player from being able to work. At that point, the player is free to sign with any team but may not sign back with the original team until the length of time from the injury settlement has concluded plus an additional 3 weeks.

So, for example, if the Colts gave him a month of compensation, then they couldn't sign him yet since not enough time would have elapsed.

Brylok 10-07-2025 05:28 PM

Probably the best we could get. I expect 50+ yards is out of the question. Anything over 40 will be iffy.

Looks like they cast a wide net.

They tried out 8 different kickers today!

Thanks for this clarification as I also wonder why we did not bring him back in. I just learned something new with that.

I also saw Atlanta was kicking the tires on him and he appeared healthy.

The league fined McCollum $5722.

These dirty SOB’s just can’t help themselves. A good penalty for the franchise would be draft compensation to teams they inflict injury to by dirty play.
