OT Ryan Hayes from Miami

LB Isaiah Land from Dallas

OG Josh Sills from Philadelphia (Breer has him listed a guard, he's also listed at tackle)

I'm happy with that. Our WRs and DBs still scare me though.

Isiah Land is intriguing.

Isaiah Land NFL Draft Scouting Report

EDGE, Florida A&M Rattlers

Isaiah Land has been a three-year contributor to the Florida A&M defense and quickly developed into one of the most feared pass rushers in the country. He redshirted his freshman year and played sparingly the following season. His sophomore year was canceled due to COVID-19 but when he came back as a junior, he took college football by storm, leading the country in sacks. Land followed up his outstanding junior season with a strong senior campaign and now he looks to take the next step in the NFL.

Land is a long and lean pass-rush specialist who has excellent athleticism for the position. As a rusher, Land displays excellent first-step quickness off the snap and is able to win edges with ease. Once he wins the edge, Land shows an ability to quickly turn his hips and flatten at the top of the arc and find the quarterback utilizing his impressive length. Land predominately wins with speed off the edge, where his athleticism simply overmatches his weak competition. Additionally, he has an outstanding motor which allows him to rack up production late in the down as he has excellent foot speed to pursue the quarterback from the backside.

Land flashes very good body control and lateral agility that makes him a hard target to get hands on for opposing offensive linemen and also gives him the ability to make plays even when he is in a bad position with his body. In the run game, Land’s athleticism and effort are his two greatest strengths as well. He makes a ton of plays in pursuit and down the line of scrimmage. He is able to evade ensuing blockers and make plays in the backfield.

While there is a lot to like about Land, there are significant concerns when projecting him to the next level. At just 215 pounds, Land is significantly undersized for an NFL edge rusher. Due to this, he lacks the ability to set a firm edge in the run game and offers little to no power as a pass rusher. Furthermore, Land is underdeveloped in terms of having an array of rush moves and counters and relies on his speed and quickness far too often. Given his lack of size, a move to linebacker is likely in his future, but since he has such few reps in that role, he is a total projection at the next level.

Overall, Land has some redeeming qualities as a pass rusher but his lack of size and an incomplete skill set hurt his ability to be counted on early in his NFL career.

Top Reasons to Buy In:

Motor
Speed
Athleticism

Vertical Jump: 34.5”

Broad Jump: 10′ 6”

Short-Shuttle: 4.56s

Three-Cone: 7.20s

Bench Reps: 21 reps

Ideal Role: Developmental pass-rush specialist

TDN Consensus Grade: 69.50/100 (Sixth-Round Value)

Land can rush the passer. He weighs 215 (according to some Dallas reports) pounds so using him in the correct circumstances will be crucial. Dallas faithful are bummed to lose him

To make room for these 3 waiver pick-ups, the Colts waived DT McTelvin Agim and OL Carter O'Donnell and released WR Isaiah McKenzie.

The Colts are down to 3 WR's on the active roster.

No, the wing bone. Air Force academy ran it. 2 WR, 2 TE off the LOS, one RB behind the QB.

You can run triple option, its better for passing. Its Tiger Ellison, Run and Shoot the now attack.

Rosters can look a little goofy at this time of year.

For example, the Cheats only have 1 QB on their active roster at the moment.

WTF! Waive Ehlinger nobody will pick him up and if he's the difference between winning and losing, we're fucked anyway.

Man Steichen did not like the backup WRs.

Apparently the the Colts have re-signed McKenzie and place Woods on IR.

OK - I think the Colts had to wait until 4PM Eastern to make the IR move whereas the waiver claims were processed earlier in the day.

Not a problem...but why do they value Ehlinger so much? There are better QB'3s out there. Why protect Ehlinger when there is no reason to do so?

Maybe hoping NE or AZ will trade a pick for him, since their QB rooms are the worst in the league right now.

Or why didn't we release Hambright instead, since we picked up 2 OL off of waivers? Surprised we kept him over O'Donnell as well.

IndyNorm 08-30-2023 08:58 PM

Not impressed with either of our OL pickups . Probably would have been better off just keeping O'Donnell and Skipper.

But the claims Indianapolis made do not address the team's lack of experience on the offensive line.

Sills, who signed with Philadelphia as an undrafted free agent last year, played in one game with the Eagles. The 6-6, 325-pound Oklahoma State product played only on special teams, and he was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list last offseason after being indicted on charges of rape and kidnapping, although he was acquitted of all charges in August.

Hayes, a seventh-round pick out of Michigan, is a 6-7, 305-pound tackle prospect who likely joins Blake Freeland on the Indianapolis roster as the team’s backup tackles. Both players are rookies; Freeland was a fourth-round pick, and the Colts also gave long-time guard Arlington Hambright snaps at left tackle for the first couple weeks of training camp.

At the present time, Skipper is still with the Colts on the practice squad.

If O'Donnell goes unclaimed via waivers, he might be added back to the practice squad as well.

I read some comments out of Philly that Sills was not a lock to make their practice squad although I think he probably would have. Obviously, Steichen is very familiar with him.

Be interesting to see which of these 3 players the Colts will try to keep on the active roster and which ones they run through waivers in the next few days / weeks. Sometimes a waiver claim is made just to grab another guy to stash on the practice squad. So the claiming team will turn around and run the guy through waivers again.

AlwaysSunnyinIndy 08-31-2023 12:44 PM

The Colts placed a waiver claim on a WR but the Cardinals were higher on the priority list and were awarded the player:

https://twitter.com/FieldYates/statu...24485282156642

Quote:

The most popular player claimed on waivers yesterday was new Cardinals WR Elijah Higgins.

5 teams tried to claim him: Cardinals, Colts, Titans, Commanders, Packers.

The only other player with more than 2 claims was new Texans G Nick Broeker (claimed by Cardinals, Titans, Giants).

More than likely, he is cheap. He’s smart, he hustles, and he is easier to fit under the cap. They already have two expensive Qbs, having a third doesnt make sense. And the kid gave his best when the team imploded last year. He didnt quit. The third string Qb does a lot of dirty jobs, like running the scout team.

Ballard likes him, he trusts him. It could be that simple.

My point being nobody was going to claim him with so many better options out there.

Didn't see Skipper was on the PS. Also, I would think we'd add O'Donnell to the PS if he clears waivers since he made the initial roster.

Agree. Will be interesting to see what other roster churn happens in the next week or so.

Arizona / Jonathan Gannon snagged him off waivers.

You dont know that. If they dont want him they would have cut him. Either wat, someone was going to get released to get him back on the roster.

Bummer. Thought O'Donnell looked decent in the final preseason game. Hopefully Sills and Hayes are upgrades.

A common strategy with rookie QBs. They’re big targets, their routes are usually in the middle of the field, QB friendly position.
