thoughts on a shake up
sunday ticket took a shit on everyone yesterday so i missed a large portion of the game. that said, we couldn't block anyone. the offensive line was garbage.
to make a statement, what do we think of changing it up. and is Dennis Kelly healthy? I think he is LT- Kelly LG-nelson C- ryan or pinter rg - pryor rt- smith we aren't opening up holes in the run game. we aren't protecting ryan at all. i don't see how they just keep it as status quo |

for the record
if we look back at last year, the oline was garbage for like the 1st 4 weeks for some reason. i don't know if we can improve like that but it is worth noting i guess |
I think Pinter to center and Kelly to RG is what needs to happen.

Reminds me of what Shula did back in the day. After a shitty start to the season sat a ton of people and played Ted Hendricks amoung others. Reich is to nice of a man to hurt folks feelings like that. These are his boys. There is zero fear out there of our coaches. I agree completely with Omaha that something drastic needs to be done. When this team was ascending we had an offensive line that was feared. Ballard let that go for no reason. To me it is the worst mistake he has made. Finding a decent LT is much more doable than finding a QB and he has found neither. Another 2 million and we would have had a decent RG and some depth. I’m ranting but the guy is a genius talent evaluator but shit at putting together a team. I had thought the two go hand in hand but apparently not.

There were 50 snaps on offense. Pryor received 35 snaps - 70% Raimann received 15 snaps - 30% |
Raimann saw time in the 4th quarter and I thought he played pretty well. There was one play he got bull rushed back into Ryan, his stance was too high it seemed and let the rusher get into his pads, but he didn't lose the guy, he kept upper-body wrestling him the whole way. Ryan ended up taking a bigger hit from a guy coming from the other side on that play.
In general Raimann looks like he provides much more upside than Pryor, for sure he should be starting at LT now. |

Last year, most of the OL starters missed significant time during training camp due to injury / recovery from prior injury. There were usually 3 or 4 back-ups playing at the same time. I think Glow was the only lineman that didn't miss time. It continued into the regular season. I believe Week 5 was about the time when the Colts stopped using Davenport as the primary back-up tackle and switched to Pryor instead. |
Skip to the 3:44 mark in this video, it is the first drive where they sat Pryor and put in Raimann
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K35jfUcA-G4 The play I remember where Raimann got bullrushed a bit is not shown in this clip but there's some good views of his play. Play 1: Ryan pumps, gets pressure from up the middle, flushed and throws it away. Raimann handled his side but then the defense all shifted away from him as Ryan left the pocket. Play 2: Taylor runs up the middle for 2-3 yards, Raimann pancaked his dude. Nice. Play 3: Raimann has nobody to block at first, eventually latches on to a guy. Ryan was not pressured but rolled out trying to wait for somebody to get open and tried to force it. Play 4: Raimann lost the hand fighting, allowed himself to get turned around and his guy did beat him but had no effect on the play because Smith got abused at RT even with help from RG. Terrible. Smith's guy flattened Ryan. Play 5: Generally decent pass blocking for the whole line here, but again Ryan tried to scramble around looking for an open guy. Skip to 5:56 for next possession: Play 6: Raimann was a little late picking up his man on an edge rush but had no impact on the play, maybe it hurried Ryan's throw, but I don't blame Raimann here for the deflection and interception. |
Raimann got beat badly on one of the stunts. Didn’t switch like he should have. Also Jag defensive linemen hold on the stunts which makes it worse. Raimann isn’t ready and Pryor is not up to the task. Until LT is solidified the line will be bad. It’s the lynchpin of the line. Wish Ballard had signed a real vet and not some journey man. It’s the most expensive line in the league and they play like crap. Pinter is not doing well at guard either. Not strong enough.

On play 1, I think Raimann got beat by Allen and he wouldn't have recovered... But Allen didn't have anywhere to go because the entire pocked collapsed. Smith gave up a lot and Pinter in particular just got walked straight into Ryan's lap. Play 4 is interesting... I actually don't see Smith and Pinter getting wrecked this time. Look at Kelly, he's the one that gets wrecked by the Nose immediately. Looks like Ryan sees the Nose immediately with a clear shot and starts to flow right. This allows the DE to disengage Smith and go wide with his own clear shot at Ryan. Meanwhile, Nelson sees his DE go wide with Raimann so he comes back inside and catches the Nose after Kelly got embarrassed. It could've been ok if Ryan hung in there... except it's the 4th qtr and he already has PTSD from the OL getting spanked all game. So you end up on that play with a 3-man rush smoking us while 8 guys drop into coverage. There's no fucking chance. Fucking embarrassing. |
