Jeremy Fowler

The 49ers are releasing DE Kemoko Turay, per source. Turay had 5.5 sacks for the Colts last year, five-year veteran.

I would take Stallworth over our current 8nterior D-Line depth.

Stallworth was our back up nose tackle last year. I keep hearing that we need to improve that position. Any takers?

Agree with both of those. Also, why not bring Turay back and dump Banogu?

Looks like Mack is sticking with the Texans as a member of their practice squad.

Turay decided to stay with the 49'ers and signed to their practice squad.

Let's see how long he stays there before a team poaches him for their active roster.

Titans will probably snag Turay. They like former Colts.

Yeah, and they have a sudden need, too, with Harold Landry tearing his ACL at practice this week.

Haeg is signing with Cleveland:

The Browns are signing veteran OL Joe Haeg, source says. With RT Jack Conklin working his way back from knee surgery, Haeg provides depth at tackle and he can play guard, too. Haeg met with the Raiders last week but heads to Cleveland instead.

I really liked Haeg. Ballard obviously not so much. Until he proves otherwise I’m going to believe in Ballards ability to scout offensive lineman. Only big mistake was Fisher. Ballard made a bet on an injury and lost. Like Wentz he moved on, I like that.

I think Fisher was Ballard's homer pickup as Wentz was to Reich.

I had had thoughts that we should have kept Turay instead of Banogu. With Turay being cut by SF once again Ballard seems to know more than me. Imagine that!

The jury's still out on whether that was the right move or not as while Turay wasn't great, he was head and shoulders better here than Banogu has been.

Hopefully Banogu makes a giant leap this year and becomes not completely worthless, but most of us have our doubts.

Oldcolt 09-05-2022 10:24 AM

I still think Turay and Banogu both look like busts. I had thought Turay was turning the corner.

That's fair. While Turay has had some flashes when he's been able to stay healthy, neither is really much count.

Not aimed at you, asking questions about expectations

Just out of curiosity, what is the % of draft picks getting to a second contract with the draft team or their second team?

Drafting Peyton Manning seems like a no brainer, how many here thought Antonie Bethea would play 10 years?

Turay imo, is a disappointment, not shocked. I didnt think Banogu would make the team his rookie year.

Jerry Hughes was a bust for the Colts. He made the Bills look likes geniuses.

I think the rate for draft picks to make the roster is just a little over 50%, so making it to a second contract would likely be close to 35-40%, but that is just an uneducated guess from me based on something I think I heard about draft picks being a 50/50 proposition.

Racehorse 09-05-2022 11:34 AM

So, my numbers were off. For players drafted in the first three rounds, the percentage is above 90% of making the initial roster. Rounds 4-5 are about 70%, whereas later rounds are around 30%. The 50% number I referred to must be for rounds 4-7.
The same site I got those numbers from say roughly 70% do not get a second contract.

With where he was drafted at there was no way Banogu wasn't going to make the team his rookie year. And if we're being honest where he was drafted is probably the main reason why he's still on the team.

Jerry Hughes had a better fit there playing as OLB. He could’ve done the same here when we made the switch with pagano but he never got the chance.

Mack was released, then signed to the Texans practice squad, then cut from the practice squad. What is up with Mack, obviously there is something wrong, guy was too good to not even be able to make a teams practice squad!

Would you rather have Mack or Lindsey on the practice squad? I say Mack.

Seems like a good dude and he could have been more of a dick about his situation last year.

I just think the Achilles injury took his burst away. He didn’t look any different to me than Jackson, who the Colts seem to be weirdly in love with.

Lindsay is better than both of them.

Special Teams matters in depth players.
