Week 3 Injury Reports

No walkthrough, no practice today for Colts QB Carson Wentz.

The swelling was significant the last two days, so Colts will monitor day by day, Frank Reich says.

Quote:

Frank Reich said Wentz feels better today than he did yesterday, but the Colts will continue to monitor . . . .

Quote:

Reich says they have to approach things as if Wentz won’t be ready for Sunday.

And hope to be surprised if he can go.

Not committing to Jacob Eason starting/Brett Hundley backing up, if Wentz can’t go.

RT Braden Smith has a strain in his foot

Colts OC Marcus Brady said the team didn't know until they arrived at the stadium on Sunday that WR Parris Campbell (abdomen) wouldn't be able to play. Brady hinted that Campbell is "close" to getting back on the field soon, would seem this week.

Hoopsdoc 09-22-2021 01:29 PM

At this point, just concentrate on getting him ready for Miami.

As badly as we need Wentz to win this game to get our first W of the season, I hope that they just keep him out uniform and let him heal completely ....... and have a long talk with him about self-preservation as an NFL quarterback (although it's not entirely his fault, as the Colts' offensive line has been sub-par so far this season.)

More than a month ago, Jim Irsay said that he didn't want Wentz on the field unless he was at 100% health-wise in relation to him being rushed back too soon after his foot surgery ...... I hope that Jim (and the entire Colts coaching staff) feels the same way about Wentz' latest injuries.

On top of that, a moderate High ankle sprain and be rolled again, even taped up, and become a severe one, that would keep him out 4-6 weeks.

Let him heal up...

I hope Eason comes in and lights it up

njcoltfan 09-23-2021 07:19 AM

This team is toast, going on year 5 of Ballards plan on building thru the draft, and this team is still not a contender!! when free agency starts this year maybe, just maybe Ballard might sign a difference maker.

Colts practice squad QB Brett Hundley took the majority of starter reps in practice Wednesday, and he and Jacob Eason may both play against the Titans if Carson Wentz is out, per sources.

There’s still hope Wentz can play. Final decision may not come until Sunday.

The team’s starting QB this week could be one of 3 players? This on an offense who supposedly sucks because of lack of continuity.

Oldcolt 09-23-2021 01:50 PM

It makes sense to start Hundley with this offensive line. If you think Eason has potential putting him in to just be a tackling dummy doesn't make sense. Eason needs confidence and that won't happen if he is running for his life-which he will be if this line continues its putrid play. Eason isn't mobile and would be a disaster behind this line as it is playing now. Hundley can move and protect himself that way I guess. This is depressing. How many QB's is shitty line play going to cost us?

I don't know anything about Hundley's mobility, but Eason is maybe the least mobile QB I've ever seen. He'll get killed back there

it makes zero sense to play a qb based on mobility. you fucking block.

if eason isnt able to be a backup when you need him, he shouldn't be on the team.

this is fucking stupid if hundley plays

Agreed, but giving him the majority of first team snaps Wednesday is fucking stupid if he doesn’t play. Eason desperately needs those snaps.

This is Reich trying to be cute, like a moron.

Just play Eason and stop trying to make the Tits worry about which crappy quarterback they’re facing Sunday.

Really, less mobile than Phillip Rivers?

CletusPyle 09-23-2021 10:37 PM

I say at least talk to the Bills and see what it would take to bring in Trubisky...should've been done before the season started, but if the Colts have any hopes of a post season you can't wait, you have to have a better back up considering Wentz's injury prone history!

A bit of a surprise: Colts QB Carson Wentz is practicing today, which means starting Sunday in Tennessee could be in play.

Even more of a surprise: Wentz is moving around fine in individual drills, and throwing completely normal. This bodes very well for Sunday.

o

If Wentz' mobility is limited because of the ankle injuries, he may be under strict orders to not even try to escape the pass rushes unless it's only a step or two forward, backwards, or sideways (and/or stepping up in the pocket.) And if that's the case, we may get a lot of offensive holding penalties with our blockers knowing this.

If by some minor miracle his ankles are completely healed by Sunday afternoon, disregard everything in my previous paragraph ...... in fact, you may want to disregard it anyway.

Other notes from Colts practice:

— No sign of RT Braden Smith, which means they'll likely turn to Julién Davenport again

CB Xavier Rhodes was practicing

LB Darius Leonard was practicing, and wearing a 13 jersey in honor TY Hilton (TY can return to practice as early as next week)

Only LB Jordan Glasgow and RT Braden Smith ruled OUT for Sunday at this time.

QB Carson Wentz was limited today. He’ll be a game-time decision.

If Wentz can’t go, Colts coach Frank Reich wouldn’t commit to starting Jacob Eason. Said the team is still working through its options.

nate505 09-24-2021 02:57 PM

I must admit, I was really sour on the guy before the season started, but he's played well and he's a tough SOB if he can get thru this.

Brylok 09-24-2021 03:44 PM

Where the hell is Braden Smith? This will be the 2nd straight game he's out injured with a "foot" and "thumb". Is the foot broken? Is it missing? Is the thumb broken? Is it up his butt? I fully expect him to be back for next week against Miami or be put on IR. It seems he got paid and is now stealing a paycheck.

Earlier this week, Reich characterized Smith's foot injury as a strain.

Since the Colts opted to not place Braden on the IR when it happened - they originally thought it would heal up before a 3 week period on the IR. Yes, I would hope that he could be back to practice at some point next week.

His toughness should never be questioned as a Colt. Wentz less mobile. is better thanany backup we have.

Could be the best thing Carson has ever had happen. He knows now (hopefully). Be Phillip. get it out quick or throw it away

Agreed. Wentz has certainly not been the problem and seems to be tough as hell so far.

Wentz has won me over big time. When healthy, he is a top tier QB. His competitiveness is 2nd to none. The only issue I worried about was what a lot of the media and Philly fans were saying, that he may be broken mentally. Well, he sure as hell isn't broken mentally, that's for damn sure.

No doubt and 100% agree!

apballin 09-25-2021 04:49 PM

Well they promote Huntley to the active roster so we’ll see what happens

As for Wentz, I’m not questioning his toughness but he’s bringing some of that shit on himself you gotta get rid of the fuckin ball….. and all I know is Rivers would’ve finished the game. Manning or Luck would’ve finished that game…

No one is finishing a game on 2 sprained ankles. That’s impossible.

If it was just one ankle, I’d agree, even if it was a severe sprain.

But two? No way. He would have had no base at all. No way to plant.
