State of the Board
The state of this board tells you everything you need to know about this season so far, even though it's early. I cannot remember it ever being this dead and lacking energy during the season. Hope seems to have taken a flyer, both with us on the board and with what is being written in general about the Colts. We need a statement game Sunday, which I am not sure we are capable of. Scrambling like we are to find offensive lineman and defensive backs this early in the season is a bad look. On the somewhat positive side I think Wentz may be the long term answer at QB, if we don't get him killed. What am I missing?
|
For me, the thing you are missing is my general lack of interest in the NFL as a whole as it goes more and more woke and pounding the table for social justice.
In my opinion, the reason that folks have traditionally watched sports is for a "relief" from the worries and tribulations of life. No matter what else was happening in your life or in the world, you could tune into a game and tune out of the world for 3 hours watching two teams compete on a level playing field. May the best team win. Now? The "struggle for..." and the "fight against...." are brought up a fair amount. COVID restrictions on those not willing to get the shot border on insane. Rulings on the field that fly in the face of what you are seeing with your own eyes cheapen my enjoyment of the game. And, yeah, outside of the first two series last Sunday, our O-Line was just a train wreck. Regardless of where the Colts franchise is, my overall desire to watch any NFL product is just a lot less than it was even a couple of years ago. |
I think life balance has more to do with it.. I personally work a lot more now than pre Covid.. I was out of work a few months as well as Covid happened right in the middle of us buying a house... So it fell through.. not to mention lost family members and friends. I am still excited about the season and am hopeful but for me Football has taken more of a back seat. I, like others I am sure just have so much that has happened or is happening in their lives thanks to this pandemic.
Not to mention I have a 5 year old daughter who acts like she is turning 15:D. I get on here when I can.. lunch breaks etc. Hopefully the Colts can get their shit together and get us all a little more excited. |
I know that these may be the reasons we give but I'm not buying into that. I think it is 90% we suck and there are very few reasons for hope early. NFL viewership was up 21% over last year, I know COVID but still. Cle/KC was CBS's most watched first weekend game since 2015. This team needs a complete attitude turnaround Sunday. Playing like we did Sunday is on the coaching staff in my mind.

I don't think that we suck. We sucked in the first game of the season against Russell Wilson's Seahawks, but I don't think that we suck overall. I believe that were are a solid team with a good, mobile QB (as opposed to last season, when we had a good, immobile QB.) o |

That said, I'm really not noticing anything very "woke" out there, at least from a tv perspective, and I still try to watch every Colts game I can. |
I work in a petri dish, and that was before the world disaster that will not be named. I’m tired. This is my last year of full employment, I will retire in the spring.
Its hard to get fired up for football when Im just trying to end my career and hopefully be heading into the future, despite all of the uncertainty of recent times. I am hoping for a calmer Weekend this week, pour myself some small batch and see a good game |
C&O I get your point, but at this point in the season (way early) we suck. Now I'm hoping the last game was an aberration. Like you I feel we have a talented group. But until we play better (this Sunday I hope) I'll stand by we suck.

Overall interest has waned, largely as a result of the opposite of what Roger has determined everyone wants to see = arcade game scoring and "the chosen ones" always being in the spotlight. I used to be the guy that started watching pre-game shows 3 hours before, wore jerseys, and was in a sweat when the kick off happened of the first game of the day whether it was the Colts or not.
The overall enjoyment of the NFL game has been smothered by ref's that believe we enjoy watching them. The rules structures making it so you can't really play defense has zapped a lot of my desire. Also, I am a firm believer this is merely a very highly choreographed version of the WWE at this point and last Monday night's farce just reinforced that belief. Big gain Dallas, flag. Ridiculous push off on the TD catch- ref just happened to miss it... ALWAYS the way it goes for certain teams. I still watch the Colts games with great intensity and still feel the blood rushing when I jump up and go crazy over a play, but other games, meh, I'll watch with a casual eye as long as I don't have something else to do. |
I also think we are all probably using other websites for news, and they have messaging systems, and debates of their own that are generated from the article you have just read. Sure you could regurgitate that again on this site, but there is less inclination to do so, hence why it is less active than it ever used to be. Probably a lot more reading of topics on here in relation to the volume of posts. A lot of the posts on here have degenerated way off topic as well, which will have driven some casual users away at a guess.

On a side note, we do not suck, we just have little chemistry right now. |
The combination of losing Luck and Ballard’s slow steady approach have just sucked some of the excitement out of the game for me. Add in the best players being anti-vax (a competitive disadvantage and harmful to the community) and I just can’t find anything to even convince myself this team COULD be special this year. I don’t think the team believes they could be either. I’ll watch every second they play and I’ll get too emotionally invested at times, but I feel like I already know they will ultimately underwhelm me.

Thanks for the insight. I feel like most of us are kinda in the same place. The only real cure, for me, is winning. It covers a lot of ugly. Win or lose, like the rest of you freaks, I'll be here.

For me, I'm just tired. It started with Luck being injured so often and then quitting 10 days before the season. We've had years of national trauma, years of a virus killing hundreds of thousands of people, years of propaganda and misinformation and the complete division of society to the point where actual democracy is in deep trouble here. Football, given that context, isn't that important. Also the amount of ads/commercials stuffed into the games at every opportunity drive me away from watching games other than the Colts. The rules seem to be made up on the fly. Nobody can define a catch. Officiating is questionable at best.
And now apparently we're bad enough to be on Hard Knocks. I'll keep watching as best I can, but it's not a "must" anymore. Just my opinion. |

Even though I am basically retired I am probably more busy with the company now than I was 6 months ago. So my time is very limited |

No offense but the board software seems a bit outdated. I think it's more difficult here to post images and Twitter posts. That may turn off some potential members. I would be willing to donate to upgrade the board software and I'm sure others here would too. I know there are options out there for donations like paypal, etc.

I’m not a Twitter guy. I think we may have Twitter have to ask Smitty. We can set up a FB page but I don’t want it tied to my personal account. Too confusing. I already have to deal with the business linked to it
Any other platforms? Can pay (SEO) to have our site as a tops on a search. Ad in the Colts book they hand out at games. Etc. There are things that can be done. Radio ads etc |
I think like others have stated, most ppl just get on bleacher report and scroll the comments on there. This is the best site for a true Colts fan IMO
Another thing here recently my phone has given me problems logging in saying the site is unsecured so it could be that |
i simply don't use a laptop much and don't post here from mobile. i don't like the setup with mobile.
love this board though and am excited about the season. just don't think they will be very good. |

The reality is to get that franchise QB you have to be really bad and at the right year for a good draft class. Sad that my interest in the Colts (also the NFL) is near zero. It almost reminds me of the post Bert Jones era. I thought Rivers did a decent job at QB last season. |

That was good. |
I think that one thing that would help and bring us together as a forum, would be to have some real face to face social interaction.
I'm suggesting a CF pregame tailgate. A lot of us do not live in or near Indy and could not organize such an event, but those who can, do you have any interest in this? I kind of hate that that I've been on this board for over 10 years, but yet really don't know you guys. Maybe I'm just old and out of touch, but that's the way I feel. |
