2021 NFL Draft thread - Day 2 discussion - Rounds 2 and 3

Round 2 starts Friday night at 7 Eastern / 6 Central.

TV: ABC, ESPN, NFL Network
Stream: fuboTV, NFL app

Dam8610 04-30-2021 01:22 AM

Sure hope the Colts get a LT at 54 and there's not a massive run on OTs at the top of Round 2. Of course now the opposite of both of those things will happen.

Puck 04-30-2021 01:41 AM

Here is a list of remaining OT's for day 2 most are graded fairly close together

Teven Jenkins

Dillon Radunz

Samuel Cosmi

Spencer Brown

Liam Eichenberg

Walker Little

Jalen Mayfield

My guess is at least 3 of them are available at 54

These are the DE still available

Ronnie Perkins

Carlos Basham Jr.

Patrick Jones II

Dayo Odeyingbo

Rashad Weaver

Daelin Hayes

Shaka Toney

Do you not see the clear advantage of getting edge rush early? The cupboard is pretty bare now

Remember WR is very deep this yr too so there will be WR's taken

Not to mention that the #1 LB and the #! Safety are still on the board

IndyNorm 04-30-2021 10:14 AM

Those of us who aren't happy with the Paye pick are not upset about picking an Edge over an OT. We're upset that Ballard picked a project Edge over a plug and play OT, who will help out immediately.

Also, as I pointed out in the other thread we should have gone with Rousseau instead since Ballard was dead set at drafting another Edge project, since Rousseau has proven he can produce at a high level.

Luck4Reich 04-30-2021 10:17 AM

Project........ Lol

Luck4Reich 04-30-2021 10:20 AM

This was said about him....

"When looking at Paye’s production during his time at Michigan, it isn’t fully indicative of the type of edge rusher he can be. Michigan didn’t completely use him as a full-time edge rusher and sometimes had him aligned on the inside shoulder of the tackle."

Also....

"The Colts won’t make that mistake. Paye’s burst, athleticism and length should allow him to thrive in the aggressive, one-gap front that Matt Eberflus implements on Indy’s defense."

How would you describe him? He's a great athlete who hasn't produced on the field, which at least IMO makes him a project.

What do you consider production? Why did so many have him high on their boards because what they saw in his production. His disruptiveness was brought up often.

IndyNorm 04-30-2021 10:40 AM

Sacks and TFL. That's what you pay a DE to do. He was obviously rated so high b/c of his athletic traits and lack of premium pass rushers in this year's draft.

Also, here's a concerning quote on him from someone who knows what he's talking about:

Said McFarland: “I’m just concerned: Can Kwity Paye do it right now? He’s a very raw guy.

“Do the Colts need him next year? If they do, they better coach him up pretty quick and get his primary move and secondary move ready to go.”

Luck4Reich 04-30-2021 10:45 AM

Fair points.

Looking forward to see what we get once the season starts.

Oldcolt 04-30-2021 10:53 AM

If you want an impact player at 21, an impact pass rusher, it will most definitely be somewhat of a project. I'm totally good with this. I like watching players develop and am going to enjoy Paye's. He is a huge character guy. This is totally in line (all the bitching going on here) with how freaks root for this team during the draft. We waded thru how horrible it was to take a guard at 6 and then how we totally blew it by taking a small college undersized linebacker in the second. Always thinking we blew it until these dudes start to play. Almost all draft picks are crap shoots. I like this one.

Sacks and TFL are great, but really are not the be all and end all of performing your role on any given play. If the DE forced the running back to run inside and Buckner stuffs him for a 2 yard loss, Buckner gets the credit, but it was ultimately the DE who created the stop. There is so much more to this great game than whomever makes the splash plays. You need all 11 guys to do their jobs on a consistent basis, and from what I have seen and read that is what Paye has done throughout his career. Plus Paye only played 3 and a half games last year.

Is he going to be great? Who knows, I certainly don't, but I am willing to bet he tries his absolute damnedest on every single snap he plays and is generally assignment sound.

IndyNorm 04-30-2021 12:09 PM

Something I just thought of. Are we even able to use next year's 1st or 2nd rounder to trade up? Due to the dynamics of the Wentz trade I'm thinking not.

I believe both are tied up ...

Oldcolt 04-30-2021 05:04 PM

If we don't get a tackle tonight the odds of Nelson moving outside go up I would think.

Voosh 04-30-2021 05:17 PM

Looking forward to Day 2. I'll be out having some beers watching this one. I'd like to see LT. Could Cosmi or Eichenberg fall to us?

Count me on board. We could have done worse IMHO and if he becomes another Mathis or Freeney or not, then so be it. It is always a crap shoot.

Jets go WR at No. 34: Mississippi’s Elijah Moore.

Nice pick for Jets

Atlanta is trading pick No. 35 to Broncos

Atlanta traded No. 35 and No. 219 to Denver for pick 40 and Denver’s fourth at No. 114.

RB Javonte Williams.

Spike 04-30-2021 07:32 PM

Kinda slow tonight on this board compared to last night. Well, it is Friday night and most Colt fans are probably getting drunk or already are drunk. Isley Brothers sound wasted!

YDFL Commish 04-30-2021 07:34 PM

So far so good, no run on OT's yet.

Most of the Olinemen left are not pure LT's like Sewell and Slater. I believe we will have a good choice when it comes to the Colts pick.

Thorgrim 04-30-2021 07:42 PM

I’m afraid Jenkins goes here.

smitty46953 04-30-2021 07:42 PM

TV coverage is about 3 picks behind ...

Spike 04-30-2021 07:42 PM

Fucking Pats draft Barmore, pretty damn good pick. I hate those bastards.

Dam8610 04-30-2021 07:43 PM

I hope the Bears don't draft Jenkins.

I agree to a degree. I believe Eichenberg and Cosmi may be the exception to that.

Jenkins gone, damnit.

Dam8610 04-30-2021 07:45 PM

Well, Dillon Radunz or Liam Eichenberg, I hope.

More than likely Cosmi.

But as I said, Jenkins won't be there at 54.

I agree. I will be happy with either one. The other one I like is Little from Stanford.

I would add Jackson Carmin to that list
