Letting Justin Pugh go to Arizona for 5/$45 doesn't make a lot of sense.

Then he better draft a qb because Luck will be done by the time this team is ready to not only compete but get out of the basement.

When we miss the Playoffs again this year & probably next year as well, he will be looking for work.

But they have money that to some degree they HAVE to spend on someone and lots of not just holes on the team due to poor talent but literal holes with no one signed.

You can't pass on everyone. You have to actually field a team.

$6.5 million for one year for Melvin. I don't understand why you don't make that deal. You better be bringing in someone good to replace him if you can't pay that money for one of the few bright spots on the D last year.

you don't make the deal because it takes two to make a deal. It's been reported that Melvin and his agent Would Not Accept a one year deal from the Colts. They were asking for a multi year deal with $ that were "much high" than 6.5. This is why Ballard said test the market. Market said you aren't the CB1 you think you are so instead of coming back and negotiating a multi year deal with the Colts he says I have confidence in myself....I will prove the market wrong. And here we are. You can't make a deal with someone who doesn't want to deal. It sucks but it's the business reality.

Norwell gone. Jensen gone. Pugh gone. Kline gone. Sitton gone. How are we supposed to improve the OL now? Please explain this to me.

Spike 03-17-2018 03:05 AM

Some of the money these guys are making is ridiculous for what they have accomplished so far. Kirk Cousins is now the highest paid QB in the league, WTF are we in, the twilight zone?

The reality is there is no explanation for this. This pisses me off too. Protecting Luck should have been priority number 1 for Ballard. It sure as hell wasn't priority number 1 for Griggs. You just can't fix fucking stupid. Overpay if you have to, but protect the franchise for the love of God.

It's a three year rebuild Fat, maybe next year when the Colt's have a billion dollars to spend in free agency, will they decide to protect their #1 asset.

Grigson.

If you want the player, go after him BEFORE he goes to visit other teams. They should have had him in on day 1 if they wanted him, not wait until he visits another team and then say "Oh darn, we tried to get him, but couldn't get him to leave Arizona."

Beat someone to the punch instead of being the punching bag.

How do you guarantee that the player you want is going to visit your team 1st?

Offer hookers, some of Jimmy's stash, free shrimp cocktail at st. Elmo's for life?

Probably the biggest improvement will be actual nfl coaches

Grigson put a lot of resources into the oline.

He was just a shitty talent evaluator so it didn't matter.

Ok, but when thee are 2 parties involved it is a bit more complicated than just saying it.

1965southpaw 03-18-2018 09:27 AM

Hmmmmm..............very interesting. We've all said Ballard is a man with a plan. This could be a part of the plan.

For a team to successfully land Irving, three things would have to happen:

They’d need to make a sizable offer that Irving would be willing to accept.
They’d have to hope it’s high enough that the Cowboys would refuse to match it.
They’d have to surrender their second-round pick.

1965southpaw 03-18-2018 10:33 AM

Jon Bostic just signed a 2 year deal with the Steelers.

ukcolt 03-18-2018 12:56 PM

Read the link regarding David Irving and some of the posts on the Boys website......i am not sure why if we wanted to try to sign him that the compensatory pick we would have to give up would be our top 2nd round pick? Does it have to be your original slot in the draft? Or the highest you have remaining?

Cowboys fans seem enamoured with him, but can't say that he is a guy i know anything about. A former UDFA, who last year played in 8 games, starting them all and had 7 sacks. They are saying that a 2nd round pick is not enough compensation for the talent that he is, and there are some who were predicting that he could be in line for a contract in the region of $12-15m a year, which in my eyes is way too much for a guy who has yet to complete a full 16 game slate as a starter.

Puck 03-18-2018 01:01 PM

He'll get 5/60.

Who is he? Never heard of him, and now he's worth a ton of money and a 2nd round pick? And he only played in 8 games.

Dam8610 03-18-2018 02:56 PM

Why waste the second round pick? All Suh costs is money.

I've never heard of him either, and that seems like a lot to give up for a former UDFA who is still trying to prove himself.
But I read up on him. 3 seasons. Only played 8 games last year because of a suspension (PED) and then a concussion. But he had 7 sacks in 8 games, which projects to a nice total. And that's coming from the DT position, which is pretty crazy. And apparently he was leading the league in sacks for all DTs when we went down with the concussion.
He also had 6 pass deflections, which projects to double digit numbers there. That's a stat we've lagged in for awhile - did we even have 6 total pass deflections this past season, as a team?
So interesting prospect, but not sure he's worth a big contract and a 2 round pick.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports free agent DE Benson Mayowa will visit the Jets on Monday.

He will talk with the Redskins on Tuesday and also has visits lined up with the Seahawks and Colts. Mayowa recorded six sacks in 2016, but he has never had more than one in any other season. Mar 12 - 9:28 AM

I would hate Ballard coming out of FA without 1-2 OL starters. I don't want those to be high draft picks. You could maybe talk me in to Nelson at 6 (still a far distant alternative to Chubb for me), or definitely at trade down with Bills, but if this team is using the draft to collect average starting OL instead of playmakers at EDGE, LB, WR, I won't be a happy camper.

Indiana V2 03-19-2018 08:56 PM
