I have no issue with re-signing Blackmon to be the third safety to a small deal, assuming he is fully recovered health wise. He has not been a liability, but nor has he been a game changer either.

Blackmon is starting to make his rounds today - he is visiting with Carolina first.

Reportedly Carolina is also bringing in a second former Utah Ute safety today - they are hosting Marcus Williams along with Blackmon.

Free agent S Julian Blackmon is on a free agent visit to the Panthers today, sources say.

Just 26, Blackmon has been a starter with the Colts for the last five years. Carolina is still looking to add on defense, with Blackmon being the latest they’re taking a look at.

EJ Speed is headed back to his home state of Texas.

He joins Houston on a 1 year deal.

The Texans are signing former Colts LB E.J. Speed to a 1-year $5M deal, sources tell NFL on FOX.

Speed spent six seasons in Indy and is coming off a career-best year with 142 tackles in 15 games, including 7 TFLs and 5 PBUs.

Good riddance! Sounds like a special teams contract to me. Although I hope he starts every game and misses another 40 tackles.

Too bad really. At one point it appeared he had a chance to become a Maniac replacement and then it seems as though those press clippings became more important than the actual on field achievements.

I am glad to see the podcast clown crew broken up. Maybe Zaire gets the message and pulls his head out of his a**.

I think that is being overly harsh. He was a 5th round pick who played well enough to earn a 2 year contract. I don't recall many people complaining about his re-signing then. Now did he play well in those two years, not especially, but he wasn't earning a boatload on a huge contract. He wasn't the only reason for the poor defense last year.

Don't disagree that Commish is being overly harsh, but he was also obviously one of the core players causing locker room issues.

I'm confused?

Was it the good riddance that was overly harsh? So there is actually peeps on this forum who wanted him back?

Is it the statement that 1yr for $5 million sounds like a special teams contract, that was overly harsh?

Or was it the statement that, I hope he starts 17 games and misses 40 tackles that was overly harsh? Do some embers of this forum want him to make all of his tackles? Do you want Speed an the Texicans to be successful?

Damn, it's not like I wished him out of the league or wished him injury or anything?

I think it is best for him to find pastures new, but i don't think it would have been terrible if he was resigned to compete for a Colts spot either on a reasonable contract, he has not been terrible, nor has he been good.

Good riddance, to me is overly harsh, as i don't think he was awful by any stretch of the imagination. Can we upgrade easily enough, yeah probably. But for me he is still a marginally below average starting linebacker.

You hoping he has a poor season for the Texans is not a problem to me, i don't want any of the opposition players to be superstars against the Colts. But i also have nothing against him if he became a pro bowler either. Speed had 5 good years with the Colts.

The same with Fries and Kelly i want them to succeed on their new teams, not so much if we play against them, but they have been good players for the Colts through the years, as has Speed.
