Well, I don't see why the timing should dictate. You have a kicker you're paying a lot of money, he's been pretty money from 50+, and he's got plenty of leg. If you think you can get points...

And it doesn't matter if it was an old school, 19-yard gimme extra-point... When a 6'5 cyborg leaps and completely clears the OL from a standstill, that kicker is fucked.

You remind me, though...

I meant to mention how huge CLE's kicker was. With the turnovers, it didn't matter that CLE couldn't move the ball. They still got 12 points from Hopkins on kicks of 44, 54, 54, and 58. Monster day.

'Tough calls': Colts may submit controversial flags vs. Browns to NFL for review

"Indianapolis may send both flags into the NFL for review, a process that both signals a team’s dissatisfaction with a call and also opens the door for a change in coaching points, depending on the league’s response."

Not going to hold my breath on the results...

It looked to me like the referee tried to talk the back judge out of the PI in the end zone and he would have none of it!

I would have liked to see Kenny Moore moved to the outside and Nick Cross as the slot CB for at least one defensive series in the 3rd quarter. And if it looked good, then do it again for the last series as the game wound down.

I know that Kenny prides himself being a slot CB - and he usually excels at it - but I think the game may have ended differently if he was there instead of Baker.

Supposedly the Colts practiced that alignment with Kenny on the outside and Cross in the slot a few weeks ago.

The beat writers asked Bradley about this alignment and he said they considered it but decided not to make the move because Kenny is playing well in the slot.

I wasn't suggesting it to be a permanent move - just a few snaps here and there depending on the game situation or match-up.

Colts have discussed the possibility of playing CB Kenny Moore II more outside, but Bradley thinks he'll probably stay in the slot in sub-packages because he's so valuable there.

You're a good man C&O, I feel the same way.

Good coaches put players in positions to succeed. Moore does well inside, not so much outside. Keep him inside

I'm surprised I have to expand on this. Even if you have a good kicker w/ a strong leg, 60 yard FGs are low percentage and high risk, which should really only be attempted at the end of the half/game or when you desperately need the points (down 10 halfway through the 4th quarter, etc.).

The much smarter play would have been to punt and try to pin them deep. Especially since they were down to their 3rd string QB and had only been able to move the ball against our D when they had inherited great field position (after the first drive of course).

Agree on the Browns kicker. Dude had a monster game.

Sure, I know what you're saying. I just think in the context of our that situation with our kicker and our HC, it wasn't a reckless decision. There was a more prudent choice, but there always is.

We were lined up at the CLE 42 on 4th down. Field position-wise, Steichen has shown he's willing to gamble around mid-field on 4th down. Maybe you don't like that, which is fine. I like/trust the aggression.

So he's probably thinking A.) My kicker is one of the best and can make this kick, and B.) even if he misses, our D is playing well and CLE has a backup at QB... we can stop them even at mid-field. He was right, btw, because CLE had a 0-yard drive after that block.

The X-factor was obviously Garrett making a phenomenal play. I mean if he even touches one of our OL as he leaps over, it's a 15-yarder. You can't account for that kind of freakish play.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I don't mind seeing us go for it on 4th and short from their ~40 under the right circumstance, but the success rate is a lot higher there than on 60+ yard FGs.

Although if our D is shutting them down IMHO we'd still be better off punting since we'd likely get the ball back w/ great field position.
