But they have money that to some degree they HAVE to spend on someone and lots of not just holes on the team due to poor talent but literal holes with no one signed.

You can't pass on everyone. You have to actually field a team.

$6.5 million for one year for Melvin. I don't understand why you don't make that deal. You better be bringing in someone good to replace him if you can't pay that money for one of the few bright spots on the D last year.

You don't know if Ballard even had a chance to meet or exceed this offer.

They'll spend the money, but anyone expecting them to sign players on day 1 by outbidding every other team (AND having multiple players eager to come to a foggy situation such as this) hasn't been paying attention to every other Colts offseason up to this point. It has NEVER been the case here.

We can push much of this space into next year when we may be much more attractive, so throwing stupid money at mid-level players might be a mistake. I just don't think it is time for as much panic and angst as I am seeing from Colts fans. The sky may indeed fall, but it has not happened yet.

I don't think Luck and if Indy is an "attractive" location has much at all to do with it.

90% of it with these players is money. You pay them and they sign.

He was on the team and just became a free agent.

He had a great season, at the very least before free agency you give him some idea what you are thinking and what you are willing to pay, have some discussion with an agent what they are looking for in a deal.

If he is not even doing that, he is not doing his job. He had a chance to keep him from entering free agency before the offer even came from the Raiders. Or any team.

Tyrann Mathieu is a Houston Texan

Once again an AFC South team gets better, and we lose our best DB.

Exactly, they aren't thinking about Andrew Luck, they're thinking about getting paid.

You can think whatever you want, but I think many players do look at the whole package.

So what could likely happen then since the free agent market will be down to the bottom of the barrel for quality talent is that we will overpay to fill out our roster.

So far we are a worse team and we have a ton of cash. That is going backwards

I don't really disagree, I am just not in full on panic mode like half of this board. I know you are not either. It seems clear to me Ballard is full onboard with a long-term approach, and I am not sure I hate it.
