TY is pretty pumped up about Wentz. After watching numerous interviews with Wentz, I have changed my mind about him. He appears to be a pretty damn good teammate and he is working out with all of the Colt wide receivers. Hopefully he regains his MVP type play, which I believe he will with Reich. The Eagles were a shit show. Can't wait for the season to start.

I'm with you Spike. Wentz will turn out to be a steal for us.
|
I’m optimistic, I think he is more likely to do well than turn in another bad season.
|
Now, just get us this guy and an edge rusher and we could be SB bound.

Yeah, I was all in on Darrisaw, but the more I hear, watch, and read about Jenkins, I'm really hoping for him.
Bad attitude mauler. Imagine him next to Nelson. |

Darrisaw Slater Jenkins Leatherwood Radunz Cosmi Eichenberg I like all those guys to have a shot at being a 10+ quality left OT in the league. We will have choices of getting one of them in the 1st or 2nd round of the draft. I cannot wait! |

Guys,
Please don't forget that we are vertical pass set team. When watching film on OT prospects that has to be taken into account. Some prospects like Eichenberg in particular seem to be already trained in that technique. Others not so much. I would say Darrisaw fits into the latter category. Probably not that big of a deal, I'm sure most OT's can learn a foreign technique, but it is worth considering if you want the guy to hit the ground running from day 1. |
I am just pretty excited that we will appear to have options in BOTH the 1st and 2nd rounds of OTs that look to be day one starters.
If we are looking at options between Radunz, Little or Eichenberg in the 2nd round because we picked DE in the 1st, that is not a bad choice to make. Heck, a lot of mock drafts I sim still have Cosmi available to us in the 2nd round (not that I think that is realistic but...) I think Ballard will find the guy he wants and with his drafting history of Nelson and Smith, I think that the kid will work out. |
I still think LT is a position you don’t want to get cute with. Draft the best you can in round one. Worry about other positions later, even edge. I also wouldn’t take any of the DE’s in this class over any of the LT’s. Lots of athletiscm, but too many projects.
We may have some competition for Jenkins, Titans may try to move above is. I think the titans took the DT we liked in 2019. I can also see the Raiders taking Jenkins. Darrisaw has the highest ceiling besides Sewell. It’s nice to have options. I can actually see them taking a CB before a DE, if the LT they want isn’t there. I’ve been trying to get a feel for the order of LTs, but lots of different opinions after Sewell and Slater at 1 and 2. No distinct order that I can tell. |

It is beneficial for lower-profile prospects, guys who weren't invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, who get their shot to stick out and send teams back to the tape to take a second look. Game tape will always be the number 1 criteria for me. Slater and Jenkins are damn good, and I would be happy with either one of them, but so is Sewell. I know that you are not that high on him, but all of the NFL scouts and experts are. They actually get paid and or fired for this shit. |

Edit to add: I would've used Jenkins's combine numbers in the evaluation, but they cancelled the combine this year. Pro days are the only way to get measurables in the 2021 draft season. 2nd edit: Just saw the part about Sewell. Here's the thing about Sewell. He's the Tremaine Edmunds of LTs. What I mean by that is if you watch Edmunds's college film, he looks like a David Harris or Bart Scott. That's because he was 19 years old. Sewell is the same in that regard. He's probably too young to be coming into the league, but his athletic gifts give him a pretty good chance at success. Unfortunately for us, the Colts don't have the 2 years it's going to take him to grow into a great LT. They need a plug and play guy. You can plug and play Sewell, but you might get your QB killed. IMO Sewell would be best served going the Ogden path. Start at OG his rookie year, then kick out to LT. He has the potential to be great, but right now his technique is bad and needs lots of work. |

Sewell is 20 years old. He is essentially a sophomore. How many people were talking about Nelson his sophomore year? No one. The guy’s potential is sky high and is only just starting to realize his potential. That’s why he is the number one rated tackle. Not for who he is this moment, which is still pretty damn good, but for who he can become.

Neither one had even started their careers yet? |
Looks like Darnold would have been the better option.

Let's see how the season plays out.

After stringing together a few good games at the beginning of the season, Sam Darnold has looked absolutely awful the last 3+ games for Carolina.
He was benched this past game and backup PJ Walker was inserted in his place. Here are Darnold's stats over the last 3 games: 54 for 103 for a 52% completion percentage, 2 TD's, 5 INT's, 10 sacks. |
Ballard/Reich appear to have made the correct decision with Wentz. If this holds up it will be a huge plus for them.

I hope Darnold has a great rest of this season and that we STILL feel we were wrong to want him over Wentz. |

I wanted Wentz over Darnold, and it wasn't close. In spite of what wound up being a disastrous final 2 games of 2021, I still have some hope that Wentz will have a better season in 2022 after having gotten a year of experience under his belt playing with his new team. o |

Saw two QBs who absolutely willed their teams to scores. No quit. No quarter. All fight, passion and power. Wentz has little to none of those things. Experience is not going to fix that. Wentz is not a fighter. When we need him, he will not deliver. I am resigned to another year of him and I hope, honestly, that I am wrong but I think we will be looking for a new QB for the 2023 season. Wentz is not the guy, IMO. |

I have hopes, though they are not especially high. Prior to the 2-game collapse at the end of the season, it seemed as though most Colts fans felt that Ballard had built a solid, overall team (as opposed to an extremely Manning-dependent, Luck-dependent team.) I do think that it is possible that the current Colts teams is a better overall one than were the Eagles in Wentz' last 2 seasons with them (2019 and 2020), and that that factor will perhaps be an important one in my hopes of Wentz evolving into the kind of quarterback that he is capable of being. In some ways, Jimmy Garoppolo's failures in clutch/key situations is a parallel to Carson Wentz' failures in clutch/key situations ...... and his team is going to its second NFC Championship game in 3 years. This, of course, is all being looked at through my royal blue-shaded glasses. o |

The first season with Wentz did not pan out well overall, even though things were looking pretty darned good prior to the final 2 games of the season ...... now, we're left with hope that having a season under his belt with his new team will pay some dividends in 2022. o |
