Unless the rule has changed since last year's training camp they don't (link in my earlier post).

Sorry, I missed your post, I didn't think that sounded fair to the team. But since the Colts cut him, I wonder what happens if the league reinstates him after one year? Would he just be a free agent?

I don't think a roster spot would be taken by a suspended player.

Rogers is suspended indefinitely, so they need to waive him to fill his spot

I would have to see the league rules to know if you are correct. Calvin Ridley did not cost Atlanta a spot, did he?

No worries. I was just being lazy about reposting the link. I presume he would be a FA if reinstated since we released him and it doesn't look like anyone put in a waiver claim for him which isn't surprising at all.

Per this article he didn't. This is from Aug. '22 so maybe the rule has changed, but I doubt it.

Reserve/Suspended: Any player who is currently suspended from the NFL. Such a player does not count toward roster limits and is not paid his base salary while on this list. Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley is a current example of someone on this list.

I see this as almost purely a business decision. It is my guess that almost everyone who is competitive as NFL types bet on something. If not their friends do. There is no moral issue here. I believe that the powers that be in the NFL think that gambling is one of the things that could burn in a huge way this billion dollar business. No way they are going to chance finding out if they are right. Rogers may come back but I would think he would have do enough public service work to become the poster boy for gamblers anonymous in his year away to have a chance.

Rodgers found his next gig - that is, whenever his suspension is lifted.

Today the Eagles signed him and then immediately placed him on the Suspended List.

The Eagles signed CB Isaiah Rodgers, who was then placed on the Reserve/Suspended list.

He’s out at least a year for violations of the league’s gambling policy.
