I think that the announcer was wrong ...... he did not like going for it on 4th down, because the defense has been playing well.

I think that BECAUSE the defense has been playing well, coupled with the fact that the offense has been playing so badly, the defense needed a shot-in-the-arm from the offense by having them get some points on this drive.
