Sources: The Broncos are signing former Colts QB Sam Ehlinger to a 1-year deal.

He had multiple offers but chose Denver, seeing the best fit with HC Sean Payton and QBs coach Davis Webb, joining a room with Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham.

Yeah, it seemed like the Texans had a full LB room already...although one of their guys did miss a ton of games last season due to injury so this could be an insurance type signing. And while he is there, try different line-ups in training camp and roll with what looks best on the practice field.

Speed picked the Texans over San Francisco and Dallas.

He would probably start in Dallas. Clearly not a very smart guy.

Maybe he didn't want to play for Eberflus again.

I know Franklin torched that bridge... I can't remember if Speed co-signed. Probably.

Flacco is headed back to Cleveland.

Reunion: the Cleveland Browns and veteran QB Joe Flacco reached agreement today on a one-year, $4 million deal worth up to $13 million with incentives, his agency JL Sports told ESPN. Flacco now will return to Cleveland, where he won the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award in 2023.

Flacco also spoke with the Steelers and Vikings but opted to spend his 18th NFL season with the Browns.

The Colts and Mo Alie-Cox re-upped on a one year deal:

TE Mo Alie-Cox inked a one-year deal to return to the Colts, a league source tells The Athletic

If it isn't vet isn't vet minimum, maybe with some incentives, what's the point?

ukcolt 04-12-2025 05:01 AM

He was easily our best blocking tight end last year, and that is a role that needs to be filled. But it should also be a veteran minimum contract, or near to that.

Lets be honest, it is not as if Alie-Cox was the real problem, he has never been the pass catching threat. That was the role that Gransen and Mallory were supposed to fill. Ogletree is a well rounded TE, who is probably better as a blocker.

Our TE's are ok as players for depth, but we have not had the elite threat who can be a No. 1 TE.

From initial reporting, it appears the contract is more than the vet minimum...but a very large decrease from last year's number.

Colts deal for veteran tight end Mo Alie-Cox is for one-year and $2.2 million, per a league source

ukcolt 04-12-2025 04:06 PM

I am ok with that contract.

YDFL Commish 04-12-2025 06:21 PM

I'm ok with it too. I just feel that if we draft one of Warren, Loveland or Taylor then, ether Ogletree or MOC don't make the team.

ukcolt 04-12-2025 07:14 PM

I think we will continue to have 4 TE's on the roster, and they would be the draft pick, Alie-Cox, Ogletree and then either Woods or Mallory.

2 guys who are more in-line blocking TE's and then 1 well rounded, and 1 a pure pass catcher.

Don't think this news will be a surprise, but it appears that Shrader has "won" the kicking competition.

Colts special teams coach Brian Mason confirmed Monday that kicker Spencer Shrader will start and receive all the reps in the Colts' second preseason game against the Green Bay Packers Saturday.

Shrader will take "a bulk of the load" moving forward in practices as well, including the team's joint practice against the Packers.

Shrader, entering his second year in the NFL, holds the edge over rookie kicker Maddux Trujillo; Mason said Shrader has made 87 percent of his kicks overall in training camp and Trujillo has made 78 percent.

"I think he's kicking better in training camp than he was in OTAs, I think he's kicking better in week three of training camp than he was in week one," Mason said of Shrader. "Obviously, any time you have a new starting kicker there's going to be some bumps in the road, but I think he's starting to get more comfortable. I think he handled pregame really well in Baltimore. He certainly has the leg up in this competition."

In the Colts' first preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens last Thursday, Shrader made three field goals: a 53-yarder, a 33-yarder and a 39-yarder. He missed one from 52 yards, pulling it slightly to the left to where it bounced off the goalpost.

While Shrader is now in his second season in the NFL, he still doesn't have a whole lot of experience under his belt. He spent time on both the Colts' practice squad and active roster and also appeared in games for the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs, but only has five field goal and nine PAT attempts under his belt.

It is highly worth noting that Shrader made all 14 attempts, including a game-winning, time-expiring field goal for the Chiefs. However, Shrader's longest field goal in 2024 was 45 yards. Of course, he's already shown he can surpass that with his 53-yard field goal against the Ravens – now the goal is to get more successful reps and fix the little things.

"He's just got to continue to get more comfortable," Mason said. "Just understanding different situations and how to play the ball so we're not pulling the ball toward the left, which has been the issue that's come up here of late. But really, he'll just continue to get more comfortable, he'll continue to get more consistent, which he's doing."

Mason said Trujillo will get an opportunity to kick in the Colts' final preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals to "get some film out there and show what he can do."

So the starters at linebacker will be Franklin, McGrone, and Carlies?

Yeeesh. Good thing they have great backups.

Oh wait…….

The defense will be nickel, on early downs almost exclusively. So that's Franklin and Carlies. Also, unlike Bradley, only 1 LB will be on the field, on obvious passing downs. That will likely be Carlies, because he was a safety in college.

In short yardage situations, I expect that Bachie would get the nod as the 3rd LB.
