Josh Allen about to drop 40+ points on us next week.
|
o
(vs. BILLS, 11/10) Considering the fact that 10 of the Bills' 30 points were due to a pick-6 by Joe Flacco at the beginning of the game and by Shane Steichen's inexplicable time-out call in the final seconds of the first half which resulted in the Bills tacking on 3 points on the final play, I thought that the Colts' defense wasn't that bad today. There were times when they were porous and vulnerable, and allowed the Bills to convert on 3rd-and-long and 2nd-and-long. Possessions: lllllllllllllllllllllll) 10 Punts: llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll 2 Turnover on Downs: lllllltt 1 INT: llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll,, 2 FG: llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll l. 3 TD: llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll l. 2 o |

There were 33 seconds left to play in the 2nd quarter. It was 3rd and 2, not 3rd and 20. Even if the Bills had not made the 1st down, the 3rd-down play would have taken at least 5 seconds, and then they would have punted the ball ...... and after the punt and its hang-time, the Colts would have had the ball at about their own 25 or 30 yardline with about 8 or 9 seconds left to play, and no time-outs left. That time-out was inexplicable and inexcusable, unless Steichen thought that there was a really good chance that the Colts' return-man was going to run the ball all the way back for a touchdown on the punt. The situation was not at all comparable to going for it on 4th-and short. o |
I don't think it changes the calculus too much, because he would've called the TO anyway... but they reset the clock to 0:37 when Steichen made the call.
If they get the stop, we're looking at 30-32 seconds, minus a 7-8 second punt, leaves us with 22-25 seconds at our own 25. That's not counting the punt return which is another variable that's part of the calculus. There was a different, but similar situation against Miami. 3rd & 3 with 1:21 left, long FG range, they call TO. Dolphins pick up the first and start using their TO's. As it happened, they got it down to 0:22 and took a 10-0 lead. After the touchback, Pittman caught a 33-yarder and we got a field goal, it was significant, and we celebrated. That's why I bring up Reich. During his tenure, he always went for it on 4th and guys always screamed about it. When it worked, he was "ballsy." |
Quote:
No, that was completely different. We called a timeout with 1:21 left in the Miami game, not 33 seconds. The fact that we got a field goal in the waning seconds of the first half WAS NOT a direct result of us calling the timeout that we called almost a full minute earlier, but because of the fact that Miami acted even more retarded than the Colts ever did by allowing a receiver to get behind them in that situation AND allowed him to get out of bounds in the process. A) Your alluding to what happened in the Dolphins game is similar to saying Hail-Mary worked once, that there is a good chance that it would work again. B) More significantly, the timeout that we called today (33 seconds) was nowhere near similar to the timeout that we called against Miami (1:21), and I explained why above. C) It's extremely unlikely that the Bills would not have played the final seconds of the second half stupidly as the Dolphins did, especially since there there would have been even less time (15 seconds, at most) left to play when the Colts got the ball back. Not only are you probably the only Colts fan who think that there was a realistic chance that we could have gotten the ball back and put points on the board before the clock ran out by calling that timeout with 33 seconds left on 3rd down and 2, I suspect that you are the only football fan period who actually believes that (Colts fans and otherwise.) o |

Steichen, Reich, that whole tree is very aggressive. The other part we're glossing over is the fact that BUF was 3rd & 10 at their own 27 with 0:18 seconds left. If you guys were Bills fans, you'd be telling them to kneel it and go to the locker room. Allen almost got sacked by Dayo and Latu... what if something bad happened? Instead, they make a big play, get some points... cherry on top was they didn't even need the TO. By the way, about me being the only one... most fans of every team think that the league/refs fuck their team on purpose because they don't like them. Not going to keep me up at night if we disagree. |

Wait there is another fact. The Dolphins WERE ALTREADY IN FIELD GOAL RANGE when the Colts called a timeout with 1:21 left. The Bills, on he other hand, were DEEP IN THEIR OWN TERRIOTORY when the Colts called timeout, and there was almost a full minute less left to play. Nobody questioned the timeout against the Dolphins, because they were already in field-goal range. Plus, there was almost a full minute more of time left on the clock. That timeout was not controversial or questionable. o |

(vs. JETS, 11/17) On several occasions in the 2nd half, the Colts' offense put the Colts' defense in precarious positions (one turnover deep in their own territory, an ineffective offense punting deep in their own territory and giving the Jets good field position.) On the other hand, the defense gave up several 3rd-and-longs in crucial situations. The Time-of-Possession was greatly in the Colts' favor (67 plays-from-scrimmage for the Colts, 52 plays-from-scrimmage for the Jets), which also may have helped the Colts' defense. Possessions: lllllllllllllllllllllll) 12 Punts: llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll 5 Turnover on Downs: llllll,t 1 Clock Ran Out: lllllllllllllllllll) 1 FG: llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.OOOO)))t 2 TD: llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll,OOOOO) 3 o |

It was a tale of 2 halves, with the 1st half being being excellent (minus the final 2 minutes in which the Jets scored their first points of the game), and the 2nd half being awful. That said, there were multiple occasions in the 2nd half in which the Colts' offense put the Colts' defense in precarious situations, and played a large part in 10 out of the 20 points that the Jets scored in the 2nd half ...... one of the Jets' TD drives started at the Colts' 25-yardline, and one of the Jets' FG "drives" consisted of 3 plays for -2 yards which started at the Colts' 38-yardline. o |
Quote:
I'm not going to say the Colts didn't at least play legitimate NFL defense during that period. But it was far from excellent. |
Quote:
No, I didn't. I turned the game on at halftime. I only saw that the Jets didn't get a 1st down until there was 1:30 left in the 2nd quarter, that the Jets had punted 4 times and turned the ball over on downs in a 5th possession, and finally scored a TD on their 6th possession. I presumed that 5 stops in 5 possessions and holding the Jets to 0 first downs for almost the entire half was because of excellent defense on the Colts' part, but I guess I was wrong. o |
o
(vs. LIONS, 11/24) I thought that the Colts' defense hung in there against an excellent offense, but they were not great, which is what the team needed for a chance to win. Possessions: lllllllllllllllllllllll 10 Punts: lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllt 4 Turnover on Downs: llllll, 1 Clock Ran Out: llllllllllllllllll, 1 TD: llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll,OOOO, 3 FG: llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.OOOO,t)l 1 o |

(vs. PATRIOTS, 12/01) Overall, I thought that the Colts' defense was really bad in this game. Possessions: llllllllllllllllllllll.., 9 Punts: lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.. 1 INT: llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll) 1 Missed Field Goal lllllll,)) 2 FG: llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll., , 3 TD: llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll ll 2 o |
Defense was bad today. Run defense was atrocious. It was like the first half vs. GB... they just weren't executing almost all game.
Fortunately, they clutched out the big 3-and-out at the end. TOP continues to be a season-long issue (for both defense and offense). |
Bradley: "Gotta tip my hat to the Patriots, they showed us some things we hadn't seen on film." "They executed an NFL offense and we didn't game plan for that."

Opponents' completion percentage: Colts 30th (69.7%), Bills 27th (68.9%). But in TOP: Colts 31st (26:22), Bills 17th (30:04). So that's a discrepancy. Fairly similar in terms of giving up the pitch-and-catches, but massive TOP difference. So I look at 3rd downs... Defensive 3rd-down percentage: Colts 28th (44.6%), Bills 21st (40.8%). Offensive 3rd-down percentage: Colts 23rd (36.0%), Bills 8th (42.0%)**. ------- Not a massive difference in DEF 3rd-downs, but Bills are a bit better. The latter, though, seems to fit with the intuition... Bills are very good at sustaining drives, we are not. Defense gets tired. So then if you look at scoring defense by half... Colts are actually 8th in 1st-Half scoring defense, Bills are 22nd. But in the second half, the attrition seems to set in and it flips. Colts are 24th in 2nd-Half scoring defense, Bills are 3rd. Take it even further to 4th-Quarter Scoring defense... Colts drop to 26th. ------- This doesn't explain today when they were just bad from the jump. But over the long sample, it makes sense. |

(vs. BRONCOS, 12/15) INT PUNT TD PUNT PUNT INT PUNT INT FG ) (After a turnover deep in Colts territory) PUNT TD ) (After starting the drive at the 15-yardline) PUNT TD ) (After a turnover in Colts territory, PLUS an off-sides penalty on the special teams after a made FG) CLOCK RAN OUT o |
The Colts gave up 31 points, and very little of that was the defenses' fault.

If somebody had told me that on the Broncos' first 8 possessions they would have 4 Punts, 3 INT's, and 1 TD, I would have said that the Colts were undoubtedly going to win the game. o |
Clearly the defense best game of the season. The tackling and execution on defense was the best in....... I can't remember. Somebody help me out here?
I'll give Bradley a modicum of credit for this. But, most of the credit goes to the players. The pass rush was again stale and lacked any blitzes in critical moments. |

Not including the TD-return from a kick-off and the final FG after the turnover deep in their own territory, the Colts' defense gave up 35 points to the worst offensive team in the NFL which was led by a 2nd-string quarterback. You know what sucks, what absolutely fucking pains one, is watching this Detroit defense kick the fucking ass off the Vikes.
They got a whole group of absolute no-namers out there. Decimated by injuries at a historical level. What does DC and AG do- they bring straight fucking heat. Against one of the very best WR's in the league, if not the very best, they fucking challenge everything. Seen way too many people try to excuse away Bradley's bullshit due to the lack of players. For any of you that try to pass that shit along, fuck off. Real coaches adapt and attack. Gus is a scared bitch! |

Detroit- 13 times they sent 6+ against the Vikes yesterday! 13 fucking times. The highest rate in the NFL this season! Justin Jefferson on the other side of that. Sam Darnold, having a tremendous QB season on the other side of that.
13 FUCKING TIMES! With 13 fucking defensive players on IR and with several dudes going down during the game. 13 fucking times! The current time is 12:10 PM ET Gus Bradley is still the DC of the Indianapolis Colts! FUCK YOU COLTS! |
Buckner on why the defense regressed this year…….kudos for him keeping it real.
