Where is Chad Kelly when we need him? |

Based on one practice, where the Colts were purposely working on 3rd and short situations, and you guys wanna call him "check down charlie"
Gimme a break, let's give the a realistic opportunity before labeling him. |

That’s how I’m reading this. And the fact that they’re tossing this Hail Mary now instead of just having the surgery tells me the surgery won’t be as minor as they’d like us to believe. The season is circling the drain at this point. I fully expect him to miss most, if not all, of the season. |

Nobody know what info Wentz got when he made his decision. Maybe rest has a 90% chance to work, we have no idea. It sounds like he may miss a few games. Gives us a chance to see what we have in Eason. This is a well rounded team. The sky isn’t falling. We took a hit. This is way better than when what’s his name retired on us before the season. Plus may save our first.

It feels like this is a last ditched effort to avoid what would be a major surgery. I take everything they say with a HUGE grain of salt. They are inveterate liars when it comes to quarterback injuries. |
Wentz to have surgery, out 5-12 weeks
Stephen Holder @HolderStephen Breaking: Frank Reich says Carson Wentz had an old foot injury dating back to perhaps high school according to doctors. Over time, the broken bone came loose and caused pain. The decision has been made to undergo surgery and remove it. 5-12 weeks. Ian Rapoport @RapSheet That was fast. #Colts QB Carson Wentz will have surgery to repair his foot, per coach Frank Reich. He’s out up to 12 weeks, but could be much less. They will remove a bone in his foot. |
Surgery today to remove a bone?

At least we'll keep our first round pick. |
Not the end of the world. I suppose it's better than ligament damage.
I'm betting that we don't trade for a veteran until the staff feels confident that that Eason is not the answer. So maybe similar to the Brissett trade, late pre-season or early season. |
Eason has had a full year in the system, he's the obvious choice compared to bringing in some veteran who doesn't know the system.
They better not trade for Nick Foles. |
So if it's 8 weeks, he'll miss the first three games. Sucks, but I guess it could be a lot worse.
If it's 5 weeks he won't miss any games. |

What a shitshow. Now every team’s fanbase thinks we are going to trade for their QB trash. All it will cost us is Buckner or some other star.

Plus I'm excited to see how Eason can do. Of course this opinion can come crashing down to reality in a couple months. |

"Mariotta for the Colts' 3rd round pick seems fair!" Yeah, sure. And that probably isn't even the worst of them. |
I don't understand those who think the season is over. Wentz will miss from 0 to 5 games. Not working with the receivers will make it that we probably don't start fast offensively when he does come back. It isn't career threatening. I am not happy but jeez I certainly am not giving up on the season. Lewis apparently looks great, Turay and Banogu have also looked good. Doesn't mean anything is set in stone but shit I have never read anything positive about Banogu since he got here. Paye has shown flashes as a pass rusher, albeit against Tevi. If any two of these guys are for real as pass rushers this team will be a beast defensively. Nobody has any idea of what kind of qb Eason is, that could be something that Reich uses to his advantage for the first few games. Lot of pressure on him to game plan the hell out it. Not a high probability but not zero. Right before we won the Super Bowl we gave up a gazillion yard rushing to Jacksonville. I don't think there was a person on the board who thought we would win it all. You never know what will happen. I for one am glad that there appears to be zero panic from administration so far.

Including from Nick Foles himself. He is sort of lobbying for a trade to Indy without directly saying it. https://twitter.com/AndrewSiciliano/...43543783989267 Quote:

Who, let alone an NFL quarterback, has a broken bone in their foot since high school? LOL, c'mon now. Nonsense.
|
Holder and Keefer think it’s possible that he’s back by week 1, but not likely.

I have more faith in Nelson’s toughness wouldn’t surprise me if he’s in there week 1

Per LA Times Sam Farmer:
Spent the first half of the day with Philip Rivers who assures me that, while he's focused on coaching high school football now, he isn't closing the door on coming back for a stint late in the season if there's an NFL team that needs him. — Sam Farmer (@LATimesfarmer) August 3, 2021 |

o
Last year, the Colts showed they were a complete team with a 39 year-old Philip Rivers as their QB. Rivers was a great quarterback in his prime, and he was still a very good quarterback last year, but he had the mobility of a turtle ...... and he was literally untouched in the playoff game against the Bills in 46 pass attempts. I agree with apballin on this one ..... we got this. The Colts will play the Patriots in the 2021 AFC championship game that is played in January of 2022. o |
