The Broncos completely mismanaged the final 23 seconds of the half, and it cost them 3 points.
First of all, they did the stupidest thing in the world by calling a timeout out a split second before the Texans hiked the ball on the field goal attempt. That essentially gave the kicker a practice kick, which he used to his advantage (he missed the first attempt, and then made the second attempt.)
Secondly, they made the wrong gamble prior to that sequence when they had 4th down on the Texans' 44 yard-line with only 23 seconds left to play in the half. By attempting (and missing) that very low-percentage field goal attempt (a 62 yarder), they gave the Texans an extra 8 yards because the team gets the ball from the place of the kick, not from the line of scrimmage. If they had INSTEAD gone for it on 4th down, the risk would have been less ......... if they made the first down, great. But even if there was an incomplete pass and they turned the ball back over, the Texans would have taken over at the line of scrimmage, which (again) would have been 8 yards further away from their own field goal range than from where they actually got it on (from the place of the missed field goal attempt.)
