This is an absolute WIN WIN for the Colts. I got so fucking sick of Wentz, so glad to be rid of his ass. The compensation is more than I could have ever expected for his sorry ass. Good luck with that trade Washington.

One of the 3rd rounders could turn into a 2nd rounder.

I liked Wentz, and I was one of the few very Colts fans who expected him to have a solid season in 2022 after having had a year of experience under his belt with his new team.

That said, this sounds like a great deal ...... we may have to essentially sacrifice one season while we're scrounging around for a long-term solution at quarterback, but we may have had to do that anyway if Wentz was still here and did not have the good season that I was expecting him to have. I could live with one mediocre, Jacoby Brissett-ish type of season like we had in 2019 if we could bounce right back after finding a bona-fide top quarterback for the following season (like we did when we acquired Philip Rivers for the 2020 season, and went 11-5 and took the Bills right down to the wire in a playoff game on their home-field.)

It's already been updated. The Colts are now #1 in cap space at just under $70m. That's nearly $14m ahead of #2 LAC.

Cannot believe they got out of that contract.

Sure, the Eagles fleeced us, but we did well to get what we got for him.

Agreed. Assuming Wentz plays 70% of the Wash snaps, the Colts' net loss from a draft capital standpoint is the difference between a first and second round pick, minus the slightly better draft positioning that Wash is providing to us in 2nd and 3rd round this year.

Not a bad exit from a gamble that didn't work out the way the Colts wanted. Say what you want about Ballard, but he's a decisive guy and does not linger on his mistakes. I continue to think he's one of the best.

That said, I'm bummed it didn't work out, and I'm curious to see where we go from here.

Wentz's contract wasn't all that bad for a veteran starting QB these days, and it might have increased his tradability. If I recall correctly, they'll be committed to him for 1 year at about $25M, and then will have three option years with no cap impact if he's cut.

True, the QB market is bananas nowadays. But the Colts not wanting him and being able to knock off over $28m is a relief.

Been waiting for this. I suspected Tampa or Washington. Be fun watching him play the eagles twice a year. All the Eagle Wentz truthers will be so torn who to root for.

Random internet comment- Wentz will once again be throwing to the Eagles next season.

This had to happen. I actually think this reflects well in Ballard and Reich. They made a mistake, it was CLEARLY a mistake and it wasn’t going to work. Instead of letting their egos dictate that they try it again and hope for the best, they swallowed their pride and did what they had to do.

I don’t know what they’re gonna do at quarterback next year. They may actually be worse, that’s a real possibility. But they had to do something because they KNEW Wentz wasn’t gonna work. They have to keep looking.

Someone said Washingtons super bowl odds actually went down after this trade. I don’t know how accurate that is but if true, it’s hilarious.

I would be FURIOUS if I were a redskins fan.
