Only one of the potential vet acquisitions I’m interested in is Carr, but I’ve resigned myself to Rivers.

I agree with you about Carr. I've resigned myself to another year of Jacoby, but it might not matter. There's a possibility that there won't even be a 2020 season due to coronavirus. We shall see. Good luck and God speed to all of us here.

There will be a season. Just one with no one in the stands for the first half of the year.

Maybe longer. Corona isn’t seasonal. So it will stick around for a while. And the older you are the deadlier it is. I have to imagine half the people who can afford and pay for tickets is in the middle age and above bracket.

Colt Classic 03-11-2020 08:49 PM

Deadlier?! Why is there so much hysteria surrounding this? It's a type of flu, and a few, mainly older people have died from it, similarly to how deadly pneumonia can be. Sure, take precautions to not spread germs, but pump the breaks on the "we're all gonna die" hysterics.

Can’t ascribe to the hysteria you are talking about, at least I haven’t seen any. But I don’t think talking about something and taking it seriously makes you hysterical. I didn’t realize I said “we’re all going to die”. Oh wait, I didn’t.

But yes, it has the potential to kill you. It is still pretty new to dismiss it as just another flu. Death rate of the flu is 0.1% in the US. So far it seems corona is about ten times that. It is not the end of the world, but its not something to ignore either. People with compromised immune systems are definitely at risk. But people over 50, the stats start rising.

The WHO has the opinion that it will recede (not go away, just recede) during the summer and then return with a vengeance this coming winter. I'm just hoping for the best during this madness.
And now the NBA has suspended the current season indefinitely. OMG

I think part of the worry is it has the potential to mutate and come back as a different strain every year, or every couple years. I have seen spanish flu comparisons and final numbers may be something similar. (although spanish flu numbers are hard to pin down.) Still I think we are in the early stages so really it is hard to know. I'm just glad with two very young ones at home that children seem to be relatively unaffected.

On a side note, Tom Hanks and his wife tested positive today.

If you go to the CDC site you will see that is not true. It's not just any flu. This is one that has evolved from one species to now attack people. There's not flue shot for this and there won't be for a while. The death rate for a typical flue season is 0.01 % for people. The death rate for this thing, internationally has been trending at 3.3 %

Do a little math. 0.01% of 1000000 is 1000. 3.3% of one million is 33000. 19 million get this thing, 627,000 will die. That's the same number as the 1918 spanish influenza, in this country.

And apparently, it's easier to catch this flu than others.

Children who don't have respritroy problems like asthma. Children will be great vectors to have this transmitted to everyone in their classroom and then it goes home with them to siblings and parents.

If you listen to the WHO, you would think we are going to become a teenage wasteland.

It's 10 times deadlier than the flu, 10 times as contagious and there is no vaccine? There's points A, B, C.

I agree that the "all going to die" is hysterics, and I'm not sure anyone is saying that. I'm in fort Wayne and there are already 5-6 cases, one from a vendor at the home and garden show where he perhaps saw thousands of people.

By the time you double every square of the chessboard, there are a great many sick and a great many dead. I would imagine that you and I will know many of them also.

Brylok 03-12-2020 04:32 PM

MLB has cancelled spring training and is suspending the start of the season by at least 2 weeks.

I can tell you that is not true. This virus has killed healthy people. Right now Riley has several kids in their isolation ward. Kids with health issues, asthma, they are at risk.

The 7+ days of incubation is a major problem. Those with the virus can be spreading it for a week before they know they are infected. Shutting down places that have groups of people, is the best way to stop transmission.

Stay home. Wash your hands often and hope for the best. There isn't any way to completely seal yourself off, unless you are one of those Preppers hiding in bumfuck montana 50 miles from the nearest road.

Yep, with a lack of testing and vaccine/shot for it, social distancing is needed to stop this from spreading so fast. It's not going to stop it from spreading, but if you can slow it down, it helps.

Well if they get it, they only have a 98% chance of survival. I mean, fuck, start planning the funeral and kiss them goodbye with those odds.

The coronavirus is NOT a type of flu as you tried to say earlier.

The reason they are taking such drastic measures is to try to slow the spread so it doesn't overwhelm the capabilities of the healthcare industry. The farther and faster this thing spreads past the abilities of the hospitals to treat patients, then the more at-risk patients are, because patients won't be able to get proper care or will get turned away.

This was a slide from the American Hospital Association's webinar in February to prepare hospitals for what to expect from this in the next 6-12 months in the United States in their estimation:

https://i.insider.com/5e62a449fee23d...jpeg&auto=webp

So if they can slow the spread and drop hospital admissions from the 4.8 million estimated in the US to say 1 million or 2 million max, then they can properly treat them and lives will be saved.

Pretty much any type of public gathering will be cancelled. The draft will be totally remote I bet. We really were not prepared for this thing and are going to have to play catch up.

I just had to go to Home Depot for toliet paper bc of all the idiots hoarding it.

People forget. Maybe Baba O'Riley will be ready for St. Patrick's Day, but I'm not holding my breath. Either way, it just goes back to your teenage wasteland post.

Don't cry, don't raise your eye, there will be other threads.

Good luck out there!

Thumbtacks sign Tannilhill to a 4 year 118 million deal. They are out of the Brady discussion. Seems down to Bucs and pats. This was the smart move by the racks IMO. You found a QB that works, don’t overthink it, sign him up.

Colt Classic 03-16-2020 08:11 AM

They have to find another Derrick Henry, don't they? It's much easier to be a game manager when the defense is worried about getting steamrolled.

Easier to find a running back than a QB. Tannilhill has a great season and was very accurate. I wouldn’t dismiss him as a game manager.

Reported 1-year, $2.3m contract.

He will fight for a starting spot there. Staying here he would have continued to be a reserve.

Good luck, Joe. Best wishes. I always liked him.
