It's mind numbing watching all the people apologize for Richardson sucking. Y'all look for one little moment to say he is progressing. He was a freak crossing route screw up from being like 1-12 in the first half. He had a couple dropped passes that should have been caught, but he had a lot more absolute horrible QB play. He is a freak of nature athletically, but has no idea how to be a professional QB. He just doesn't get it, and he never will. The same knocks in he had in high school and college, they followed him to the pro's. They are never going to coach him up. He is a bust and I will guarantee I am right. We wasted a draft pick that could have been used on defense. This team is so poorly constructed.

Today, I hardly ever saw a pass that sailed high over the receivers head or was way off target, long or short. In other words, I saw progress.

Thank you. This was his best game of the season, from an accuracy standpoint.

Not so on decision making.

This is probably the same ting that was being said o Bert Jones in '73 and '74. In '75 he was a division champ and in '76 the Offensive player of the year and the NFL MVP.

That is what I saw, too. His accuracy is improving, even if the completion percentage is not.

I fully agree. I felt like today was his best passing day as a Colt. There were not the wildly inaccurate high balls we've seen so much of. There were some dimes out there- in particular the passes to Goodson and Downs- those were GREAT passes.

Decision making, obviously that INT was a terrible decision. Even there though, I remain enraged that he was put in that position to begin with, I am shocked Steichen could be THAT bad at play calling. One of the dumbest fucking approaches I can recall.

I see enough to feel like he could be the guy. I don't think he's gonna be the guy if we continue to do this shit where we try to force him to be this methodical pocket passer vs the guy we drafted for the purpose of NOT BEING the traditional pocket QB. The drive after the fumble being the primary example. You just got a gift, you have momentum, you have seen AR do great work on the edges, but you just stand him up in the pocket like some stoic super hero QB of lore. WTF?

AR may well end up being a colossal bust but you can’t make that call yet. He has to be given time to try and figure it out.

That truly was so damn idiotic. A fucking pee wee lleague head coach knows how boneheaded that approach was. Still fuming about that BS. Steichen makes a lot of bone headed calls especially before half-time.

He is a colossal bust. He tapped himself out cause he was tired. The franchise QB tapped out cause he was tired. The dude is a swing and a miss. From high school to pros you would expect to see a semblance of improvement, instead we get more of the same. The NFL heap pile is full of talented guys who never got it. More will be added including this one. He will be a footnote in the history of potential.

I said this very fucking thing in the game thread. Go to your local fucking elementary school, poll every coach there over the next 40 years on their approach in that same scenario- they are heading to the locker room. Unreal that he fucking did that, unfucking real! To me, this tops the fucking stupidity of the Pats fake FG, and that's astonishing to say.

If I'm not mistaken Harbaugh did the same thing in the 1st game of the '97 season in Miami. The big difference is that he never returned to the game.

I’m not buying that he was tired. Guys a major fucking athlete if nothing else. My best guess is he felt a shot of pain in the previous injury from giving the defender a piggy back ride. Being winded makes absolutely no fucking sense.

I have few complaints with his accuracy today. 2-3 balls. That’s an improvement. Decision making was bad. He needs reps. Steichen’s decision to go empty backfield and throw with a raw qb before half was a worse decision than any AR made.

Sadly I agree with you, I think Richardson is not going to be the player we all hoped he would be! Hopefully it comes together for him in the second half of the season and I have to eat a bucket of crow! This loss was devastating today, we went from having a share of first place to being eliminated from winning the division without a miracle!

I think Flacco could get us into the playoffs, but the Colts will give AR the starting job as long as he is healthy, hoping he suddenly becomes someone that to this point he hasn't been!

I did not know that ...... thanks.

I found some info in regard to that incident. He got an IV for dehydration at halftime, and he took himself out of the game late in the 4th quarter. This paragraph is from an article that I just dug up ......

The Dolphins enjoyed one slice of revenge against Harbaugh on a typically sweltering, late-August day to open the 1997 season in Miami. After needing an IV at halftime, Harbaugh finally took himself out with 3 1/2 minutes left in a 16-10 Dolphins victory. l "I knew I was hurting the team, so I took myself out" l he said.

I've ask this before and never got an answer or opinion from anyone...is Cameron Turner a good QB coach? Is he the only one that works with AR or does he have a personal coach? I mean to me, his lack of progress might warrant bringing in another QB coach or someone to work with him personally!

I know there have been other QBs that struggled early in their careers and then a coach changed the foot work or throwing motion and suddenly they became very effective.

Yeah, let's just ignore completely abysmal completion stats of 2 for 15 in the half and 10 for 32 in the game. Yes there were a couple of drops, but there weren't 10 of them. AR is a complete shit show right now, and as others have pointed out it's pretty much a miracle that we've been able to keep the games this close w/ such horrible QB play. With that being said we're tied to AR for the foreseeable future, so we have to stick w/ him and hope he improves.

I do fully agree w/ everyone on Steichen. The play calling at the end of the half under the circumstances was ricockulous.

No, AR admitted in the post game that he came out b/c he was tired.

This is a good point. Whether it's just Turner or someone else as well, they probably need to be replaced b/c what they're doing isn't working.

Pulling himself out was also pretty damn discouraging. Unless he actually hurt something breaking that tackle or taking that hit and isn't telling us, you can't justify it.

As for the accuracy... I'm sorry, and I know completion percentage doesn't always tell the whole story... but 10/32 is his notably better day? True, he wasn't sending missiles to the second row, but shit.

I mentioned it earlier, but accurate by NFL standards is not just getting the ball to the receiver where he could catch it vs. air. The placement is relatively subtle and separates accurate passers. He's either not judging his leads properly or not hitting his intended marks, or both.

I'll rewatch to completely sure, but I think several of these pass break-ups (drops) where bad placement. Guys have to slow their momentum, reach, contort, dive too often...

Like the final drive, 22 seconds left, Pierce beats Stingley clean on a circus route or whatever out-route it was and AR puts it between Pierce and Stingley. Pierce has to reach way back, does a 360 trying to catch it. Everybody bitches that Pierce dropped it, but goddamn.

You're trying to get a field goal. Even if Pierce makes that catch, he's in bounds. He's got like 3-4 yards between Pierce and the sideline, and he throws it a yard inside of him. It's a few yards from where it needed to be.

In this game anyway, my take is if Richardson had let go of the ball 1 tenth of a second earlier then he's completing a lot of those passes. That's not accuracy. That is timing.

I can't remember seeing any QB tap out from being tired. That was an incredible run to save a sack, so I get it, but I've never seen that at this level.

I've been wondering why they don't use his legs primarily, and use his arm as a counter, but I think I just saw an argument why. Stamina.

This dude really is a unicorn. I've never seen one like him.

albany ed 10-28-2024 06:46 AM

Well, with the playoffs rapidly becoming a kind of an unreachable fantasy, it's time to just relax and let Richardson sink or swim. We're stuck with him through 2026. His cap hit would be too huge to jettison him before then. In 2026 he'll be 24 years old, still very young. Maybe, just maybe he'll develop. Right now, I believe his biggest problem is between his ears. He plays like a wreckless teenager who can't see beyond the next second. I'm not sure how this can be rectified, but I do believe that if it could, he just might be special.

We might be talking about the same thing. Ultimately, he's not getting the ball where it's supposed to be, when it's supposed to be there. Accuracy is a good enough term for me.

That said, throws like the Pierce one I mentioned, aren't timing issues. The ball "got there" at the right time. It was just 3 yards left of where it needed to be.

But he seems to HATE the concept of running twice and having 3rd and 4 which is converted at a much more frequent rate because of how many options are available on the play sheet at that point.

The one thing we have all seen with JT- he is a trust the process back. He will have 6-8-10 straight runs for 1,2,3 yards, and then he will fucking house it. Then, he is a fucking monster just gobbling up 12-20 yarders after that.

Steichen just cannot seem to allow that pattern with JT for whatever the fuck the reason is.

Starting to think he is way too similar to Reich in that he wants have a lot of the attention focused on him, how inventive, how creative he is vs just doing the right things to win fucking games!

good post

yeah i don't understand it. we all knew AR was going to struggle some and have some ups and downs. how are we not making his job easier? lean on the run game with JT and AR. set up those big shots downfield. use screens, misdirection, swing passes to the rb and some fucking slants to pittman. stay out of 3rd and long. you cant survive trying to convert 3rd and long all the time. like we saw yesterday

Yeah that was my line of thinking as well - aggregated the injury and knew it would get him pulled. Lied about it and the lie makes him looking even worse. Bad look either way. He only ran like 10 yds on that run, I believe just getting back to the LOS. The most significant thing was bearing the weight of another 250+ lbs player trying to drag him down.

Yeah I think he was hurt and I think his first reaction to any pain is to immediately freak out. I think he realized it wasn't anything serious and was ready to go right back in. That's a thing he can't keep doing. Fucking football man, if the ball is around you, you are more than likely going to get fucking hit and it's going to hurt somewhere. Not every pain is some major game / season ending thing. Unfortunately starting to worry he is too soft for this shit.

there was definitely some of that. where he hit his back drop and should let it go but had to move in the pocket making the throw late. that's kind of how football works. problem is we aren't doing anything easy so the problems just compound

His play in the second half of the last two games has been significantly better than his play in both first halfs. Not great, but definitely better. Is that play calling from Steichen? Or is that AR settling in? I don’t have the data to say for sure but my eyeballs tell me it’s Stechein’s play calling. I remember very little from the first half of either of those games that seemed like he was trying to make it easy on AR - the one screen they ran in either game being the only possible exception.

Not really quite true.

If we cut him before 2025 (next season), then the dead cap would be $20.087m which is bit hard, not not impossible to get around.

His dead cap in 2026 is only his salary/prorated bonus of $10.816m. With an estimated team cap hit around $265m, $10m is very, very doable.

So, I think he will be here in 2025 and I think that is the correct decision. With his injury history, giving him a 3rd season to sink or swim is the right thing to do with a 1st round QB.

But, if he has not progressed in 2025, I think it is very, very possible that the Colts might head in a new direction at QB (cough....Arch Manning....cough) ! :)

Okay, JMV show- apparently in Steichen's presser they indicated he said that EVERYTHING is being re-evaluated---- including the STARTING QB POSITION!

Further, and I could not keep listening further, so I can't tell if JMV was relaying what was said by Steichen, or if this was JMV speculating, but he was talking about the 3rd down INT being an AR audible. He was saying some shit about how there is no way they could be that trusting with this guy that had 2 connections out of 15 attempts.

On that note, they came out in 5 wide- which I had forgotten that little detail which just further cements my belief that Steichen is a trash dumpster of a coach. So maybe it was called as a QB keeper and AR decided to go rogue? Don't know, just know that was a catastrophe of incomprehensible dumb fuckery!

Now back to the re-evaluation. To me, that's Steichen saying he has seen enough and believes they can't win with AR as the QB. So, if that is the case, if they make the change back to Flacco- the AR era is fucking over, period, you can't return to him after that!

And, I will add this, if they pull the plug on AR, then it should be an immediate termination of the fucking straight bill loser fuck! Get him the fuck out of here as a massive statement to the rest of the org- we aren't tolerating this malaise of suck any longer!

In the end, we are basically fucked at this point.

100% agree, and to me, the ONLY way you can throw in the towel now is to announce Flacco is QB1 and straight bill loser fuck is gone. You HAVE to pin this on Ballard, it's an absolute must. Everyone has been in agreement, Ballard's future is tied to AR's and if you are saying AR has no future, then neither does the pompous for absolutely NO REASON 8 years of doing jack fucking shit loser!
