To be fair, Wentz didn’t take a snap in practice, this week; and the after effects of Covid had to be a factor.

njcoltfan 01-02-2022 05:07 PM

IMHO the Colts are not an elite team. They have a so-so QB and a defense that can’t close out games, and they can’t rush the passer.

Which was easily avoidable, months ago

Bengals win the AFC North with last second field goal to beat the Chiefs. Wow

So I guess if there's a bright side, the Colts, as far as I can tell, still control their own destiny for the playoffs if they just beat the Jags next week. The Ravens losing was huge.

If Pittsburgh and the Chargers win today, that'll make the Chargers 9-7 and the Steelers 8-7-1.

So if that result happens, here is what the records would look like

Chiefs 11-5
Titans 11-5
Bengals 10-6
Bills 10-6

WC
Pats 10-6
Raiders 9-7
Chargers 9-7
Colts 9-7
Steelers 8-7-1

So Assuming the Pats win their last game, there's one WC down. The Raiders and Chargers play each other, so one will lose (or they'll both tie, which is also fine because the Colts will have more wins than both at that point), but that will knock one to 8 losses while the other will get a WC spot.

Then if the Colts win, they'll be at 7 losses.

So yeah, the Rams really did the Colts a big favor today. The Colts still control their own destiny.

Unless I'm missing something.

Lov2fish 01-02-2022 05:17 PM

So far the only thing Wentz is consistent at is, being inconsistent. I liked the trade in the beginning. He had potential and was above average with Reich in Philly. With all the missed training camp and starting out with two sprained ankles I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I was wrong. He is what they say he is, mediocre. His throws are high, or off. He rarely hits a receiver in stride. They constantly have to adjust to his throws and a lot of time that cost us yac. He is a backup for anyone else.

Puts Titans at #1 seed.

Good take.

The other thing that is so agonizing to watch, he rarely throws an on-time pass. You just don't see successful QB's who hold the ball refusing to throw it to when and where it is supposed to go. Yeah, our WR corps is terrible, however these guys practice, they are on the field because the coaches have said they know the plays, so at some point your job is to do what you are doing in practice, which he simply struggles to do.

To me, the only thing that works with him is to go almost exclusively up-tempo and out of pocket. When he is asked to just be an athlete and make things happen, he generally succeeds. IMO Frank wants him to be this conventional pocket QB that dissects the D and throws these dimes in these complex route schemes- he isn't that guy.

NextManUp 01-02-2022 05:23 PM

We are now likely to get the the 7th seed, and go on the road to play the Chiefs. That’s not the scenario I was hoping for.

albany ed 01-02-2022 05:27 PM

I don't think the Colts can be elite with Wentz. He has skills, but lacks poise. And, poise is an important quality for the QB position. When it's crunch time, some QBs step up and actually become better. But not Wentz. He gets perplexed and indecisive. I don't think any kind of coaching will change that. If it wasn't for Taylor, the Colts would have 3 maybe four wins all year.

The Jets literally took the Buccaneers down to the final seconds of the game today before losing. They also beat the Bengals and the Titans (with Derrick Henry) earlier this season ...... if they find a way to beat the Bills and the Colts beat the Jaguars, the Colts would own the tie-breaker between the two of them.

Yeah, I know other things can (hopefully) happen. This was more of a worst case scenario of if the Colts controlled their own destiny or not. They do, but it appears that the most likely scenario is they control their own destiny to a game at Arrowhead, sigh.

If the Chargers beat Denver, Colts go to 6th seed and open the playoffs in Cincinnati.

Does that hold though if the Raiders, Bills, Pats, and Colts win next week? I don't think it would.

That will be ugly. Burrow has the Bengals rolling. They are the team I think no one wants to play.

No, Jaff somehow thinks that if Wentz was vaccinated, he would've been magically immune to Omicron, unlike all the vaxxed positives.

Win Next Game 20% 51% 29%
Lose Next Game 5% 35% 60%

Unless the Bengals lose to the Browns in the season finale, and the Chiefs beat the Broncos ...... the Bengals lost to the Jets earlier this season, and the Browns would love nothing more than to kick their intra-state rival in the nuts to salvage a little bit of satisfaction from an otherwise disappointing season.

I for one am not overlooking the Jaguars ! They always play the Colt's tough, especially in Jacksonville, and i'm sure they would love to knock the Colts out of the playoffs !!

IndyNorm 01-02-2022 05:56 PM

What a shit show for the opening kick. If either Wentz or are 3rd and long D are just slightly less than awful then we win today. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I would think (or at least hope) that we take care of business against the Jagoffs next week, but I seriously doubt we'll get anywhere in the playoffs.

The Jagoffs lost by 40 today. If we don't beat them next week then it's time to clean house.

Jags have a lot to win if they tank against the Colts. Difference between the first and second pick come April.

Defense played well in spots, not so much in others.... why not just blitz on that last drive.

Special teams were subpar except the Dulin catch of the punt inside their 5.

Put this on coaching... game plan seemed to have no coherence. We didn't seem to want it as much.

JT got 108

Oh shizzzz
Yeah he’s whacked then

The only team I do not want to play in the playoffs is cinci, there receivers will be running around wide open behind our dbacks. It wouldn’t be a shock to anyone if they go to the big show

Yeah, they are rolling. That offense is lethal. Scary future potential, too, if everyone stays healthy. Burrow, Chase, Higgins, and Mixon are all 25 and under. That Burrow-Chase-Higgins three-headed monster has some serious Manning-Harrison-Wayne longterm potential and lethality if everyone stays healthy and together.

Cant afford to do that with the cap, or are you just talking about cosches

Coaching, FO, as many players as you can without putting yourself in cap hell. If you can't beat a 2-14 team with a playoff spot on the line then you don't deserve to be here.

Hopefully we actually show up, unlike today, and take care of business.

The Bengals haven't won a playoff game since 1991. They ALWAYS find a way to lose. Remember the fumble in the Steelers game when trying to run the clock out.

Hes just not the guy, plain and simple. He does a few good things here and there but will not be the guy to lean on when the going gets tough, and that is the proverbial nail.

They are going to win a lot of games with Burrow. Dude throws an accurate football. With those WRs, deadly.
