I can't say that I really follow the cap numbers, but there seems to be about $20 millioin in dead money, can the fill out a 53 man squad that can at least play competitive ball for $100 million?

I can't say that I had really high expectations, but I would at least like to watch a competitive team. I'm not really sure I understand the teams course of action.

Colts were already like an expansion team in 2011, so with Luck (or luck) they can't go any lower. It's a house-cleaning that was needed.

They will have a few UDFA's on the team making the league minimum.

The dead money is up to 30 million.

It's painfull, but the correct move, besides many of the players cut only played a small part of the season.

Wow. I guess the front office did their evaluation, and figured that without Manning, there was no reason to throw more money at those guys.

I guess they can go and really chase after the UDFA's, they will have a great chance of making the team.

So what kind of cap situation does that put us in for 2013?

I think Irsay said we would have to do these types of moves just to sign our new draft picks. Correct?

Break it down Sarc.

Granted, but Clark had a good shot at playing more. They will need 53 guys, I was hoping most of them would be NFL quality, not just street guys.

$44 million in savings for next offseason. That's all people need to understand.

Grigson is going to go crazy next year, especially with the expected cap increases by 2014.

I hope you are wrong. How many teams have been able to build consistant winning teams going crazy in FA? They still need to hit it in the draft, and retain the guys who make plays. Going and getting one or two of the "right" guys can help.

Just remember, when the cap goes up, it goes up for everybody, so it's not as if they will just be able to rake in the FA as if no one else has money.

To those who think that this is all to to clear cap space toward the 2013 season, that is only partially true. There is no way you can build a team in one year, at least not one that will be a perennial playoff contender. It will take two drafts and two off seasons of FA acquisitions.

Grigson has to get some young vet FA's THIS YEAR to begin to fill out the nucleus that he Irsay and Pagano are envisioning.

I mentioned this in the other thread, but if we gut this team just to save money in 2013, by that time, Andrew Luck will be one year closer to being David Carr rather than Peyton Manning. He can't be thrown out there with garbage around him, at least on offense. I don't want him to regress after his first year.
