Colts lose 146-2. The deuce coming on a botched snap by the punter after having taken mercy on us and punted on 1st. down in 4th.quarter for only punt of the game by them.

That 1st down play was all kinds of stupid.

There were two possibilities on a play like that: find a crease on the edge and turn it into a 20 yard gain or lose 3-5 yards. Of course we did the latter and it killed the potential of that possession.

I hate boom-or-bust plays in crucial situations like that. Especially when you have the upper-hand.

Even without Luck this year, if our kickers were complete and utter garbage, we'd probably be something like 8-5 or 9-4 right now.

A competent QB (which JB is not) and a competent kicker (which AV is not), and this is a 10 win team this year. Everything else is in place, we just suck at the most important position in today's NFL, and we suck at the most critical position (kicker).

If you have a starting QB you are not putting hope on a kicker.

That 2nd pass by Brissett was backwards/a lateral, no ???

Not that it makes any difference because it would not have been a first down, anyway.

If not, it was shades of Fran Tarkenton against the Steelers from Super Bowl IX.

I’m beginning to think that our OL is GREATLY overrated, 3rd and 2 and we pass, 4th and 2 and we pass!! If the OL is as good as people think then why not ram it down their throats??

When did the Oline start calling the plays?

They don't have someone who creates a match-up problem at receiver. Sure, Pascal can catch, but if you're asking him to have this game every week and counting on TY to play 16 games--not happening. Luck would've lost a game or two this year as well, he was always good for a few stinkers. No way this team would've been any better than right there with the Texans as a first or second round playoff exit.

That just put it away. Time to focus on the draft. Season over & I’m not pissed at all. We all saw this coming as soon as Luck announced his retirement.
Yep, no one should be surprised. This was a 6-8 win team all along with 8 always being our ceiling given the situation at QB, the youth and holes on defense, the complete and utter garbage that is our WR corps.

It's just that the 5-2 start gave us some unfortunate false hope. I still have faith that Reich is an elite-potential head coach, but I am a little frustrated with his play calling over the past month or so.

That's such bullshit. Luck had to have indicated he wasn't feeling great about football any longer but they told him to go to Europe and come back all happy as if it never happened. They didn't want to think their meal ticket was done. The payout to Luck was so he could be blamed by the front office without any push back from him on the issue.

Right...with Luck, this team would've been right there with the Texans which is a 10-ish win team which is exactly what I said.

We suck at QB, kicker, and, like I said, our WR group sucks. T.Y. is a legit #1 when healthy but, as we've learned the last several seasons, he's never healthy. After that, we have a slew of #3s and #4s at WR.

I thought/said all along this was a 6-8 win team after Luck's unexpected retirement. I felt like we were a 10-12 team this year with Luck.

I suppose you'd say it was an exciting game but I'd like to have those 3
hours I spent watching the game back all the same. They were gifted an
opportunity to get back in the playoff hunt but followed the same script they
have the previous 7 weeks.
The defense couldn't hold a 14 point lead. I know they secured 4 turnovers
but boy did they play like shit in between. People that think drafting or
signing a QB is going to be a panacea are fooling themselves. This unit still needs a fair amount of work, which makes sense since Ballard inherited a
bare cupboard there.
And of course the offense and ST shit their pants down the stretch.
They need a kicker, obviously. Wr is a glaring need. And QB, I don't think
Jacoby is quite good enough. I don't want to move up to get one though, if one is there at one of their top 2 picks take him otherwise wait till next year
when I believe there is a deeper QB class and Brissets contract is up.
This is a tough minded, resilient team with a GM that has a pretty good head on his shoulders but boy is there a lot of work to be done.

Like I said, French Quarter Colts. Too many holes to fill in one year. Realistically I think we are 3 years away from serious contention. Not to say we can’t make the playoffs earlier but it’s gonna take time to develop our next acquisitions.

I'm going to quit with the Fran Tarkenton reference ........ Curtis Painter wearing Bert Jones' number in a Colts uniform was sometimes that was kind of tough for me to watch at the time, hence my willingness to reference anything that he did or did not do when he was here is much less than doing so for an infamous pass that was thrown in a Super Bowl game.

...and I say the front office heard from him months before week 3 of the preseason that his mind wasn't in it to win it any longer. Anyone thinking he just woke up on that Saturday and said "fuck it, I'm done" without any prior word to Ballard or Irsay is naive. Why else was Peyton Manning randomly brought in just before the announcement? He was Irsay's Hail Mary attempt to save this whole fiasco by having Peyton talk him off the ledge.

Luck's a dipshit for what he did, but Ballard and Irsay are part of the clown show too.

Beyond that, fuck Ballard for having two long-term projects taking up roster spots in Fountain and Cain. Neither of those two were "next man up" levels of being ready and it fucked up the offense as soon as injuries happened. He needs to stop being cute with the depth spots. Sure, they won't be All-Pro's, but these guys couldn't replace Blair White or John Standeford.

The main talkers on 1070 the Fan's daily shows are basically Irsay's mouthpiece, especially JMV (with his sources in the Irsay family) and Rakestraw. Throughout the season, they've fed the naive "only Luck knew he was going to walk away up until the last minute" viewpoint. Of course, Irsay himself isn't going to lob bombs at Luck now, he has too move on and Ballard has to try to continue to pursue free agents.

I don’t get why so many people say Luck gave the team a heads up. Because it was the right thing to do? People do make impulsive moves. I have zero information as to what went down. I have not read anything that says he told everybody in the organization for months that he wasn’t into football anymore. I don’t blame him for his decision but is it reported anywhere that Ballard are a heads up and just blew it off?

In the real world, imagine a top salesperson in a Fortune 500 company who makes that company a ton of money. Salesperson gets burned out and goes to management and says it's time to move on in life. What do you think happens? Management instantly sees a lot of lost revenue, money made that can't possibly be replaced since there are no other sales staff who make the company anywhere near as much money. So management tells the money-maker to take some time off, come back in a week and things will be great. Maybe a few months pass with things seemingly being good enough, but eventually, the salesperson has once and for all had enough--totally checked out, no going back. Of course, when it actually goes down, management is going to do what they can to save face and say they had no idea and thought everything was great.

You don't see how any of that would translate to the Luck situation? Of course, I have no sources, but no one here has sources for whether or not the Colts would be better off punting or going for it on 4th down, but here we are.

So, you have an “opinion”. You don’t have the truth.

Luck himself said he had been considering it for 2 weeks before the announcement. And that he promised himself after the shoulder injury that he wouldn’t go through that again.

That tells me the ankle not responding is what led directly to his retirement. That isn’t a long time frame.

Why would Luck lie about the two week timeline? What would he have to gain? He’d just be providing cover for management. And don’t say it was agreed that Luck would lie if Irsay would honor his contract. That’s bullshit. Anyone who knows Irsay knows that’s how he rolls.

Furthermore, if Luck truly was considering retirement all summer and the franchise knew it, how did it not get leaked like his actual retirement? There’s no way that news would have stayed under wraps that long. There would have been rumors, and not just after the fact.

The bottom line is, there’s more evidence that this caught the Colts off guard then there is that they knew.
