Here is one trade to help with the roster crunch / cut down day. Nate's been a solid player for Indy but the Colts secondary had so many talented players this year.

Wish him luck with the Jets - a team that really needed CB help. It will offer him a chance at quite a bit of playing time.

Trade: Jets dealing a 2020 6th-round pick to the Colts for CB Nate Hairston, per source. Hairston started 11 games the past two years. Still has two years left on his contract.

Well we got something for him. Guess it means Marvel Tell might make the roster, or Collins.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see us get a couple more picks in trades, given the talent we could possibly end up cutting.

This is fine, almost expected, but I would have thought we could get more than a 6th for him.

Nice move by Ballard

It would be difficult at this time right before cut down day because teams can simply wait and make a waiver claim.

If a team is targeting a player and doesn't want to chance another team beating them on the waiver order, then these type of trades occur.

Usually 7th round draft picks exchange hands, so a 6th rounder means there were a few teams probably interested in Nate.

Between the two, I would probably give the edge to Tell. He played special teams all four years at USC. He could help out the Colts on the coverage teams while he is learning his new position on defense.

Tell has way more upside and at this point, on this team that is what you go for. Without a franchise qb you better be real good, not just ok, with your other positions.

I’m shocked we got that for him. Excellent move by Ballard.

The pick isn’t conditional, is it?

There is a condition. The Jets had two 6th round draft picks - they had picked up one from KC from a prior trade. The condition on the pick is that the Colts will receive the lower of the two 6th round draft picks - so it probably means it will be the Chiefs pick.

The #Jets had two sixth-round picks because they added one in the Darron Lee trade. The Colts will get the lower of the two for Hairston. Physical still pending.

I’m not sure they have anyone else of enough value if they can’t get a sniff for Farley or Kindred.

The Jets sure do like to trade with us since Ballard arrived. They've done pretty well in those trades too. Not saying we haven't done well also, only that the I'm sure the Jets are satisfied with the outcomes.

I would say it is more a function of Rex Hogan. He worked for the Jets - then the Colts (Ballard brought him to Indy) - and is now with the Jets again.

Everybody wis. Hairston goes where hes wanted. Colts get a pick. Jets get help where they needed.

Ballard is amazing.

Maybe a TE, or a WR. We are not keeping 5 TEs, and WR was an area that some thought we had enough depth to trade a guy.

Maybe teams just wait for us to cut them at this point, though.

That’s the right place to look, but I don’t think someone’s giving a pick for a guy like Travis or Pascal/Johnson. Perhaps Rogers could’ve gotten a pick if Fountain hadn’t gotten hurt.

But if you can go get a guy you like and you don't want to get into a bidding war, if you go get him for a reasonable price/draft pick, why not?

Apparently, there was more than one condition. The Colts are returning the 6th round pick back to the Jets.

This is sort of odd - usually there are two picks involved......like conditional 6th but if conditions aren't met, then it is a 7th substituted instead.

From the Jets beat writer, it appears the Colts traded Hairston for nothing. Maybe things are more complicated because the Jets don't have a 7th round pick currently.....and the Colts said don't worry about it.

Can confirm Colts sit at 8 draft picks in 2020, instead of nine, because the conditions of the Nate Hairston trade weren't met to get back the Jets' sixth-rounder, as @BrianCoz reported

What happened to Hairston? Don’t much care about a 6th. Honestly, this team doesn’t need depth. It needs more difference makers that are starters.

He didn't play that much - about 35% of the defensive snaps. Didn't even appear in 5 games.

Eh - I'm not that high on Gase as a head coach.....he always seems to do weird things with his roster decisions.
