Does anyone know the cap ramifications with Lucks quitting? There is still 3 years left on his contract worth 68mil, I think.

There is a sizable dead cap hit I believe.

I am not sure how it works since he retired and if the Colts will/can go after a prorated part of his signing bonus. The shockingly shitty things about this timing is I think he got a 12 mill roster bonus this year. Looks like this was sort of the out year on his contract saving us 3 mill this year only counting 6.4 mil in 2020 then off the books. I am not sure how that roster bonus works into those numbers.

Looks like 24.8 mil this season and 6.4 next. Both are less than his cap hit would be, so it is not crippling.

Here is a better answer,
Spotrac@spotrac
Andrew Luck had 3 years, $64M left on his contract including a $6M roster bonus to be paid 9/17/19. He earned $97.1M in his short career w/ the #Colts. He leaves behind $24.8M of dead cap split as $18.4M in 2019 & $6.4M in 2020.
