Sry if this was repeated elsewhere, but Irsay had to sign off on this promo. Was it a subtle dig on Grigson that we pretended a primate could make better picks?

It was an indy zoo promo... http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-mock-draft/2017/4/29/15485932/indianapolis-colts-orangutan-fourth-round-2017-nfl-draft-pick

I dunno, maybe I'm a bit over sensitive, but it suggested to me immediately that Irsay was saying we he replaced Grigson with a trained monkey.

I already like the orangutan's picks more than Grigson's.

Grigson first draft was pretty awesome.

Grigson first draft was pretty awesome.

I don't know about awesome.... take away the Luck pick... that was a no-brainer after that the Ty Hilton pick was great.

I was ok with the Fleener and Allen picks but they were not awesome.

If anything he missed out on many other players after the Luck pick. Jmo

Well, yes. As we have talked about it before, while he hit on a couple of nice players in 2012, his next 2 drafts were dreadful:

2013:
Round 1 = Bjoern Werner
Round 2 = Traded for Vontae Davis
Round 3 = Hugh Thornton
Round 4 = Khaled Holmes
Round 5 = Montori Hughes
Round 6 = John Boyett
Round 7 = Kerwynn Williams
Round 7 = Justice Cunningham

Davis has been an all-pro but otherwise, Werner was a bust, Hughes, Boyett, Williams and Cunningham were all non-factors and Thornton and Holmes were bottom tier "starters" for a couple of years. 1 good/impact player out of that draft.

2014:
Round 1 = Traded for Trent Richardson
Round 2 = Jack Mewhort
Round 3 = Donte Moncrief
Round 5 = Jonathan Newsome
Round 6 = Andrew Jackson
Round 7 = John Ulrick

Mewhort and Moncrief are good, solid staters in the league. Everyone else on that list were at best, one hit wonders (Newsome) or were never hit wonders.

So, out of 2 draft classes, Grigson hit on 3 players with his draft picks that were long-term pieces of the puzzle for the Colts. The real kicker is that he missed on both of his 1st round picks. Those guys should be the backbone of your team for years to come.

My guess is that to be considered a successful GM, you have to hit on 3 or 4 players a year to be contributors at whatever level they were drafted

2015 was better with Anderson, Geathers, Parry and Good looking like they are nice pieces going forward. Perhaps Dorsett can add to that number but that was, at least, a contribution draft class much like 2012 was (Luck, Fleener, Doyle, Hilton). 2013 and 2014, however, were black holes.

Cheers,

Those posts do not qualify them as part of any fan club. They point out that one draft was good, which implies the rest were not.
