Probably had this in mind when he got hired, just not enough time leading up to the draft to pull the trigger. Hell, the Bills fired their GM right after the draft too.

Pagano isn't going anywhere. They retained the scouts and heads until the draft because there was no time to remake everything. This doesn't extend to Pagano.

this is usually how these things work.
not sure why anyone would be surprised by this

Exactly. You can't bring in a guy in March (Ballard) and bring on an all-new scouting staff and be ready for the draft. You use the current scouting staff, who have done work all year long, and then boot them after the draft.
Cold reality. But it's how these work.
Excited for Ballard installing his own staff.

It's actually good for the current staff. Plenty of time to line up the next job. No one was surprised.

Totally agree, not surprised by this at all. Ballard is wiping all of the Grigson shit off his shoes. Pagano will be next, next year.

He's not going anywhere this year, but he has a hell of a chance to go next year.

Yep, I don't get it, having Pagano stick around and waste another year.
We should be jettisoning his tail along with his minion coaches and making a fresh start, especially with all the new guys coming in. We don't need them exposed to Chuck's ways this year and then having to learn to do things differently again next year. But I suppose we don't have enough time to bring in an entire coaching staff from HC down and still get all our minicamps staffed.

Sure. I hope so. I liked the idea of bringing on Taub, assuming that is actually who Ballard wants. I'd like to retain some of Pagano's staff though. I'd be fine keeping Chud probably. I want to keep Philbin. Schottenheimer might be worth keeping.

It was a cold, realistic outcome. Ballard needed the scouts for this draft
because there wasn't time to replace them. the scouts probably knew that
and were ok to get paid until the moment came. What this really tells us is
that Pagano is on a very short leash. I really wish he had pushed for his
dismissal as a condition of him getting his job but I guess he had to offer a fig leaf to Irsay. It does tamper my excitement for the season. Luck is entering
his sixth season, there aren't any more to waste.

1. Do you really want to install a new offense with Luck sidelined all offseason?
2) It was probably too late to get the best assistants and for the new HC to fill out the staff.
3) Irsay has already said that he wanted Ballard to focus his attention on evaluating the scouting department, UFA, and the draft, without having to also worry about firing/hiring within the coaching staff.
Based on 1 & 2, the year was going to be "wasted" regardless. They'll be fine waiting until January to replace Pags and the coaching staff.

This is standard practice across the league. I'm not sure I would call it "cold."

They have, but most posters think that he'll be gone at the end of the year.

The prevailing rumor in NFL circles is Chris Ballard wants #Seahawks exec Ed Dodds for a prominent role. If Raye is gone, prob his spot.

Maybe impersonal would have been better. Doesn't really matter.
