In regard to our upcoming opponent in the Wildcard playoff game ........

The Colts led the league in the least amount of sacks allowed (18.)

Guess who was DEAD LAST in allowing sacks ??? The Houston Texans (62.)

http://www.espn.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/passing/sort/sacks/seasontype/2/order/false

Not only that, but the Colts threw significantly more passes than did the Texans (644 attempts for the Colts, 506 attempts for the Texans.)

COLTS AVERAGE: .,,,, 1 Sack for every 35.78 QB drop-backs.

TEXANS AVERAGE: l,, 1 Sack for every .)8.16 QB drop-backs.

I'm a jerk-off Colts fan from New York State.

What I say on a website for fans of the team never has (and never will) have any affect on the outcome of the games that are played.

If Luck gets sacked 5-plus times in this week's playoff game, it will be the fault of the Colts' offensive line, and/or bad decisions made by the Colts' quarterback (Luck), and/or a tenacious pass rush by the Texans.

I believe Boomer Esiason talked about this being a big problem for Watson and the fact he takes a lot of sacks and not boding well for them in the playoffs. Hope the Colts dial up some pressure.

o

In the September 30th game between these 2 teams, Luck was sacked 4 times in 62 pass attempt (1 sack for every 15.5 drop-backs.)

In that same game, Watson was sacked 7 times in only 29 pass attempts (1 sack for every 4 drop-backs.)

In the rematch in Houston in early December, Luck was sacked 2 times in 41 pass attempt (1 sack for every 20.5 drop-backs.)

In that same game, Watson was sacked 5 times in 38 pass attempt (1 sack for every 7.6 drop-backs.)

So, the Colts had a considerable advantage on both sides of the equation in both head-to-head matchups this season ........ hence, the Colts were by no means an exception to the rule in terms of getting pressure on and sacking Watson, which is obviously a good sign for them.

Also, they did a very solid job of protecting Luck in both of those games ........ the 4 sacks that he sustained in the first game is kind of high, but not when taking into consideration the fact that he had 62 pass attempts.

They will have a plan to contain Watson.

I’d agree if we knew for sure that Kelly would be back. The protection is a lot better with him up front. Boehm is ok but not on the same level at all.

They played a good game and had a good gameplan. I think we broke it down at the end. But they were playing well. I also think Luck was holding it a little too long, but perhaps that was due to good coverage. Hard to tell on the regular feed.

I didn't realize how bad it was until I looked at the stats for the year

Watson sacked 62 times this season, which is just unreal.

For comparison, as bas as the Colts OL has been for......what, a decade now, the most times Luck has ever been sacked in a full season was 41

It seems all sack numbers are up this year though. Colts are bucking the trend there. I don't know if the leaguewide numbers are up, but these are the stats for some of the "name" Qbs we all know

Matty Ryan 42
Rodgers 49
Watson 62
Eli Manning 47, that actually is no surprise
Kirk Cousins, at least he is high paid, if mediocre, 40
Derek Carr 51, they previously had a great line in Oakland/Vegas/LA/wherever the hell the Raiders play
Dak Prescott 56
Stafford 40
Russell Wilson 51

Interesting that Wilson has been sacked that much, the narrative I keep hearing is that the OL is finally fixed in Seattle. Guess not.

But as I understand it every team is given a base of 3 points for being at home. Adjusted for that Vegas sees this as even, or that the Colts have a slight advantage.

3 points is a rough estimate, but yes, but that's because its a factor that needs to be considered because its advantageous to play at home, just like Kelly's and Geathers availability are factors that need to be considered.

When the impact of all of these factors, among many others, are assessed, the Vegas oddsmakers are telling us that it's more likely than not that the Texans will win this game - despite the widespread media opinion that the Colts will win. I just hope the Colts don't listen to too much of that stuff.

And yes, I'm aware that odds are not necessarily a true reflection of who is likely to win, but rather a product of the goal of equal betting on both sides.

Yes, they've improved at run blocking, and not all of the sacks are on them.

Wilson, due to his small stature probably takes more 7 step+ drops than anybody in the NFL. It makes it easier to locate him, because teams know where his launching point will be most of the time.

Also, let's not discount who his OC is in all of this. Scrotumheimer certainly contributed to Brissett's weekly beating last season.

I think it just depends on where you look. Dallas Morning News is a Texas paper and several of their writers picked the Colts. Some NFL Network people picked the Colts. Vegas says it's going to be a close game and I think the picks out there reflect that.

I heard one commentator put it well. That the Colts are the better overall team, but the Texans have 4 players that are game changers in Watt, Clowney, Watson, and Hopkins. Whereas the Colts have 3 in Luck, Hilton, and Leonard.

Luck threw 32 passes today, and was not sacked once.

Also, not including the 3 kneel-downs at the end of the game, he rushed 5 times for 32 yards, good for 6.4 Yards-Per-Carry.

That Chargers pass rush is going to eat Brady alive.
One can hope!

That is my dream scenario; Chargers take the Cheats out and we win in Arrowhead to set up a Southern California AFC Championship matchup.

We would invade their 27,000 person stadium they play at right now and hopefully make it a Colts blue game!

Although I wonder if they would host the AFC Championship game, if they would move the game to the Coliseum (93,000) assuming that the Rams were also not hosting the NFC Championship game that same weekend?

Go Colts! Go Charg......errrr.....Go Charge...........errrr, Go Charger......nope. Can't do it.

I hope the Cheats lose.
