Nelson joins linebacker Darius Leonard, who was the league’s Defensive Rookie of the Month for September. Nelson's the first Colts player to earn NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month honors since running back Joseph Addai back in November 2006.

How people buy into a pff grade is beyond me. They do have some fine information im sure for objective information likensnap counts but player grades? Fuck off

They believe that the subjective opinion of the grader is educated, but that system so easily lends itself to infiltration by various biases as to render it practically useless.

Agreed - any grading system that isn't completely transparent needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Here's the description that PFF gives of how it's grades are reached, in case anyone was curious:

Basically, their team of "300 plus staff" give a grade to each player of between -2 and +2 on each play, and then they tweak and "normalize" those numbers in some way that makes sense to them, and finally they convert it all onto a 0-100 scale. As Dam points out, subjective input factors HEAVILY in these analyses and, by the way, what makes the -2 to +2 initial scale appropriate to begin with?

People just like this stuff because it attaches a number to a player's performance that give the impression of significance and objectivity, but looking under the hood reveals that it really doesn't and often the PFF numbers simply do not make sense - such as Leonard being ranked behind Vander Esch. These kind of things then generate lots of discussion, which has the unintended effect of boosting PFF's profile even more - so PFF isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Taking away from Macks performance because the OL did great seems sort of dumb. The passing part is sort of understandable, but overall the syatem is suspect.

Chris Wesseling has named Kelly as his starting all-pro center on his mid season all pro team. Accolades are nice. Lets hope the line can keep this up against better teams. Will be fun to see if they can (obviously I think they can otherwise it would not be fun)

I'm a bit worried about the Jags....I know that they are back sliding but their dline absolutely raped our oline last year.....I hope that AC and Ryan Kelly spend their bye week thinking about that......I would love to see them return the favor next week.....with a little bit of Nelson, Glowinski, and Smith loving added to the party....now that would be fun!

I agree. After watching the 49ers totally dominate the raiders, I'm less optimistic about our OL. They're going to be good, but it remains to be seen if they are that good yet. The Jags will be a good test, one that I think will show just how much the OL still needs to learn.

Did anyone have Leonard ranked ahead for Vander Esch? Just looking back at a couple of draft sites, I didn't find him in the top ten. One site had Skai Moore ahead of him.

I've been watching the last 3 games and believe that this offensive line is this good. I know that we played lousy teams, but we dominated them. I cannot remember the last time the offensive line handled any team like this and we have played plenty of crappy teams in the last 10 years. We won't dominate good teams like that but that is because they are good teams, not because this line will be regressing. And let me give props to our backs, I cannot believe how much better as a group they are at blocking. We are on our way Freaks.

Just a couple thoughts:

Having Costanzo back is huge.

Having Kelly back has been huge. He missed many games last year.

The Smith kid has surprised me, I don't know about others. He looked ok in the pre season, but he was played all over. Maybe he has found a home?

I was watching the recording of the Raider game, and there was this one play wheter Nelson pulls right, turns the corner and leave a hole about 2 yards wide for the RB go through. He's going to get better with experience. I can't remember having that kind of guard on the Colts.

He's certainly more athletic. I like the way he gets to the 2nd level and just riding defenders away from the play.

It's real life Madden. Hey look so and so has a grade of 85 but our guy is a 92, he is sooooo much better. If it was really effective they would be transparent about it. I am trying to track their ratings of draft picks a few years back to see how accurate their predictions were, having trouble finding a lot of them though. Shocking.

Leonard was around the 5th best LB in the draft generally. Vander Esch was about third I think, depending on who was rating. His size and speed was second to Edmunds. I think the majority had:
Smith - Georgia
Edmunds - Vir
Vander Esch - Boise
Evans - Bama
Leonard
Jefferson - Texas

Quite a few pundits thought Leonard was a reach. But those guys just churn out fodder for fans, have to take it with a grain of salt.
