View Full Version : was Deflate Gate somehow debunked and I missed it?

I keep seeing "Ha ha Kraft getting revenge for Deflate Gate" and a bunch of revisionist history about how there was never any actual cheating, just the jealous NFL and Patriots and Ravens ganging up on the Pats for being too awesome. Typical Pats fan garbage, but I'm seeing it from fans of other teams.

Did I miss something? Were the allegations proven untrue or is this just weak-minded dummies believing the NE narrative because their hype machine said it enough times? The way I remember it Brady destroyed his phone and was uncooperative (hence the suspension), texts from the equipment guys were damning, there was video of one of the equipment guys sneaking the balls into a bathroom, etc.

the pats cheated, just like they did before filming practices... just like they'll do tomorrow in a different way.

A lot of fans from other teams seem to have bought in to the national narrative that deflategate was mostly sour grapes from the Colts organization. It was also around this time that PFT started trashing the Colts and I think a lot of opposing fans got sucked into that mindset.

Irsay didn't do the team any favors with that arrest of his either. I read a lot different nfl stuff and browse other teams message boards, and fair or not most fans from other teams still consider Irsay to be some pill popping meddling clown. I don't think this perception will ever change even with guys like Dungy coming out and saying what a great owner Irsay was to work for.

Unfortunately the Colts have become the joke of the league and many opposing fans and journalist consider them a complete dumpster fire. I try not to let it get to me but it sucks to read constant negative shit about your team for the past three years.

Several scientists said that it easily could have been natural causes due to the cold weather.

I seem to remember several other scientists saying no, it wouldn't have caused that much of a change in ball pressure. I also remember the Pats doing a bunch of shady shit that innocent people don't do when they're under investigation.

Yep, everything each of us said is true. Like the political environment from the last ten years, people will cherry pick the “facts” that support their predetermined conclusion.

The narrative did change at some point.

But they were hit by the league. They were guilty. Period

The same thing happened with bountygate. The Saints tried to make it seem like all a vendetta against them and turned it into an anti-Goodell tirade to gain favor with some fans and some in the media

They were still guilty though too, no matter how much they whine about it.

It seems like Goodell is universally hated enough that any scandal can at least get fuzzy if enough people blame it on him.

Well he is just as much of a douche and power hungry as those he goes after. Its like the classic South Park argument of picking between the douche and the turd sandwhich

1) their ball boy brought the ball bag after being checked by refs into the bathroom for a time I can't recall how long.

2) the refs stated that when checking psi, the numbers for each team all the same.

3) when psi was measured with all balls, colts balls were very similar, cheaters balls had much larger variance. Suggesting they were tampered with.

4) Tom Brady destroyed his cell phone.

5) people believe what they want.

I think the thing Pats fans and the talking heads miss out on, is that much of the punishment was a result of the way Brady and the organization acted during the investigation.

There are a lot of scientists that say a lot of things. Take a political argument like vaccines causing autism or if global warming is real and you get people that cite the work of scientists to prove that they are right.

In my opinion, it wasn't that cold. The text messages about the guy who prepared the balls getting game-worn gear, the guy on the payroll supposedly called "the deflator," the destroyed cell phone....

So here is a list of the coldest games in NFL history:

• Packers vs Cowboys at GB,1967, -13, -48 wc
• Bengals vs Chargers, 1982 -9, -59 wc
• Bills vs Rams, 1994, 0, -32 wc
• Vikings vs bears, 1972, -2, -26 wc
• Packers vs Giants 2008, 4, -24 wc
• Vikings vs Packers 1972, 0, -18 wc

The deflategate game was 51 degrees at game time, 30 something at halftime.

If the balls were inflated in a 68 degree room and then taken to a 30 degree environment, there would be some decrease in PSI because the molecules slow down, sure, I'm fine with that.

But, how many of you in any of your decades of watching football ever heard of the PSI of balls needing to be adjusted because it was cold? I dont recall this ever.

I don't know about you but I adjust the PSI of my balls on a regular basis.

Doesn't everybody?

Several scientists said that it easily could have been natural causes due to the cold weather.

The thing I hate about the chowda heads arguing it's science is that they ignore the fact that two things can be true at the same time.....1.cold can cause balls to deflate and 2.a cocksucking chowda head who locks himself in the bathroom for 90 seconds can also deflate balls.

The question wasn't what's possible. The question is What happened. And the burden of proof wasn't beyond a showdow of a doubt but based on a preponderance of the evidence.

I personally think if the chowda heads would have just said we did not direct anyone to deflate balls but take full accountability for the state of the balls, Roger would have slapped them with a minor fine....50k or so but once they tried to circumvent the process and usurp his authority in the CBA it was game on......in doing so I think the pissants have created fatigue and a blurring of the facts on this topic and made it seem like they got the death penalty for what happens naturally in their cold weather climate.

I have a simple solution. Tom Brady destroyed his phone to prevent the text messages from being seen. The equipment manager jokingly referred to himself as the “deflator”. And said Tom drove him nuts about or some such. Now unless he has some weird inappropriate relationship with tires, they deflated footballs.

The latest thing is now Jackson said he didn’t notice anything wrong, so they conclude that we deflated the football once we got it. Like Jackson didn’t have other shot on his mind at the time. Grigson knew about it because the Ravens and Steelers noticed it too, they just didn’t want to say anything. Anyway, it’s just more deflection and excuse making. I don’t think this was that big of a deal. But when taken in context with everything else they have done it just shows a shady organization that will bend the roiled however they can to get an edge.

This is literally a game of inches, and every single super bowl they have won has been close. So you tell me whatever shady shot they have done has not influenced their wins. Tainted organization, tainted wins, asterisks next to it all in my book and most other fan bases also.

All I know is since then pats rb's started fumbling the ball when they went almost 2 years without a fumble
