Per Adam Schefter - In the past 48 hours, Patriots owner Robert Kraft began talking with Josh McDaniels and ultimately wound up sweetening his contract, helping to entice him to remain in New England, per sources. Bill Belichick has his OC back.

Also, Rapoport is tweeting that special teams coach Joe Judge will also remain with the Pats.

There’s definitely some Colts spin embedded in the message, but there are a few interesting nuggets from Holder here:

-Colts were irate at McDaniels. They didn’t care about the why. They stopped listening once McDaniels said he was backing out.
-Colts don’t think the assistant coaches hired will be an issue. Sounds like they’re even willing to eat the contracts if they are an impediment to the new head coach.

I disagree. It's not their fault McDaniels is a complete piece of shit and fucked them over. The right thing to do is give them first interviews with the new head coach and see if they're a good fit. If not then pay them their agreed upon salary for the first year and let them walk (and yes maybe try to legally claim that from those shitheads Kraft and MdDickhead).

Hate to say it, but Luck having another surgery and/or being done is the only thing that makes sense as to why this happened. Even if Belicheat retires tomorrow Brady will only be there 1-2 more years and there's no suitable replacement in place. Plus McDickface pretty much committed NFL HC suicide outside of NE by doing this.

Of course trading Jay Cutler for Kyle Orton and moving up and drafting Tim Tebow in the 1st round makes no sense, so maybe McDickface is just incompetent outside of the Cheats organization.

I hear there are also some doctors who believe that smoking can cause cancer so take this for what it is worth....

Jim Irsay looks like a punk right now.

By the end of the day he should have Frank Reich at the podium announcing him as the new HC and immediately thereafter Jim should openly state that it is now this team's sole objective to get into the playoffs next year, not to win a SB, but just to play NE and attempt to break the legs of as many players as possible starting with that punk ass #12. The NFL needs some good ol' out in the open hatred and if we don't use this as a means to bring that back, then fuck Jim and his bags of opiates.

Wow, what a dick move.

A few questions-why would the McDaniels wait until the colts announced it before backing out? What other reason could there be than to screw them over as much as possible?

Also, it’s beyond obvious he’s been promised the pats job when Belicheat retires, how is that not ignoring the Rooney rule?

I don’t think we’ve heard the last of this.

This is the biggest dick move anyone’s made since....well, since Belicheat screwed over the Jets.

Exactly!!! He learned from the 2 biggest assholes to ever walk this earth, Kraft and Belichick!!

I hope he is heir apparent to BB. But, I have a sinking feeling that once he agreed to contract, he was given the bad news about Luck's condition and then he backed out. I hope I'm wrong and the reason is the former, but it makes more sense if he got full disclosure on Luck's condition once the SB was over.

that makes no sense at all. There is no way the Colts would basically lie to him about Luck and do all this, then tell him at the last minute. That would be absolutely stupid for an organization

I am sure Luck's status was the very first thing discussed with pretty much every single coach they interviewed.

In terms of conspiracy theories, this makes less sense that Kraft being vindictive about deflategate.

What makes the most sense to me is that McDaniels backed out due to a general lack of integrity, and a general surplus of douchebaggery.

Polian on Golic and Wingo......McDouche backing out after he's agreed to contract terms will be viewed as negatively by future potential employers as his negative track record at Denver....doesn't mean he won't be hired somewhere else but it certainly diminishes his credibility significantly. He put this squarely on McDouche....says Colts did everything right......and he had multiple calls last night with Colts insiders....unlike Florio his opinion is data based not speculation. I hope so too. BB is the real genius. Take a look at this chart:

PPG RANK for McDaniels
2006-08 NE OC 1st
2009-10 DEN HC 17th
2011 STL OC 32nd
2012-17 NE OC 1st

I hope Mcdaniel's career sinks like a fucking stone after this, tbh.
After Denver people had doubts about his integrity, his ability to handle the job and manage a team. Then there was that story floating around about how much he had learned from it, hinting that the second time around would be much different, and better. But now that he's done this, no one is going to believe it. They're going to think they'll be getting the same guy that fucked up in Denver.

Plus nobody wants to take the risk of offering him a position and then having this happen again.

For me Ballard's judgement takes a hit with this, too. Don't like saying it. He got played. Not good to look like a sucker and it's hard to argue against. Garafolo reported on NFL Network's Good Morning Football that even McDaniels' agent, Bob LaMonte, told the OC that he's making perhaps the biggest professional mistake of his career by backing out of this Colts job at this point, according to sources informed of the talks between McDaniels and his agent.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000915202/article/josh-mcdaniels-agent-told-him-he-was-making-mistake?campaign=tw-articleshare

At least his agent understood enough to caution against him backing out. If you're the agent, you also need to give him an ultimatum in that situation. You can't be associated with a coach who doesn't follow through. It makes you look horrible as an agent. Why would teams trust you in negotiations moving forward?

I agree with the first part, but not the ballard part.

Sounds like ballard did his due diligence in interviewing multiple people, honing in on one who everyone said had matured since his last try. Would have been a great fit for our offense. Multiple interviews, had already hired people on his staff, etc. McD was influenced by kraft and BB at the last hour and shit on everyone else.

The fact that he already uprooted families then claimed stability for his own as a reason is even more BS than just fucking over our HC search/hire process.

Yes but what BB did was worse

He signed a contract, started the job for a day or two and then told them he was quiting, went to the Pats

The Pats actually had to give up a first round draft pick to the Jets in 2000 as compensation for that move, plus I think one or two later round picks in 2001/2002......I forget the details, read it last night.

WHAT!?!?! The Cheats forced 1 punt! That was a stop! :D

Seriously, PHI was only 10 / 16 on 3rd downs (62%).

However, PHI was 2 / 2 on 4th down bringing that success rate up to 12 / 16 or 75%.

And, they were able to kick FG on another 3 4th downs after failed 3rd downs bringing the success rate up to 15 / 16 or 94%.

So, yeah, the Cheats defense was only able to force an ultimately successful outcome (punt or turnover) from 1 failed 3rd down play. That is pretty shitty defense.

Good luck, Lions. You might need it.

We noticed we play the Patsies away next season and pending the schedule being released and seeing if the dates work for us we are thinking we owe it to Colts Nation to go to that one and bring our good karma with us but none of us really like the thought of spending any time in that stadium surrounded by chowda loving dicks. Even before we got Reich we talked about doing the away Philly game since it's just down the road from me and I can host everyone.
