Just stumbled upon this site in which a consensus of NFL analysts grade each coach each game based on a number of factors (all explained on site).
You won't believe who ranks #32!!!

That's def too low for him, and Sean Payton at 3 is just dumb. He should be second tier, or maybe give him Caldwell's spot as the last one in on the top tier.

It's a somewhat odd list, but it doesn't change the fact that Pagano is bottom 8 at best. He's probably bottom 4.

Honestly, I understand completely the need to unplug from this board. Some of the members on it are toxic.
As some of you noticed, I unplugged for about 3 weeks earlier in the season after a rather unpleasant episode where some of the posters became unhinged and downright nasty. The ability to "agree to disagree" is pretty weak in some posters on the board as they strive to belittle and beat into submission folks with whom they do not agree.
Tolerance around here is at a pretty low level right now. I get the need to unplug.
I hope as we move into Christmas season and have little positive to root for on the field and the folks on this board can look inside themselves and see if they can't show a little more compassion for those with whom they disagree with. You can get your point across with respect rather than hate.

A lot of us old timers came from the previous Colt boards. It has always been this way since I can remember. I don't think anyone has ever been spared getting their ass handed to them on these boards. But it's fine, just fire back. I was once a member of the Colts.com board and it was the most boring piece of shit forum on God's green earth. We had some very colorful individuals that posted here, guys like Pete, Chubacrass, DaCoats (I still miss that guy), Tom fucking Simpson, etc... One thing you will find is that most of the posters on this board know their football, something you don't always find on other boards. Colt Freaks isn't for everyone, I get it, but don't take anything posted personally and you will be fine.

Chupacabra- that was one of my old ones, forgot about that one. I miss DaCoats too- dude had to be plastered pretty much 24/7. Some of his stream of consciousness stuff was glorious.
Was banned so many times at Colts.com for such ludicrous shit so then I started making a point of posting for a bit as a normal user and then BAM I would say just crazy crazy shit in order to let he know her little universe of sychophants was always compromised. Yeah I don't think we ever locked horns actually- very likely because of our common ability to understand that Josh Thomas was perhaps the very worst player in Colts history, well perhaps in close competition with Keyunta Dawson for that dishonor.
Still convinced there had to be some kind of pee or bukake dossier involving those two and Bill Polian that was used as leverage to afford them blue jerseys with a horseshoe on them! I think even Grigson would have been ashamed to have called them his players. Though I do think if either had been fortunate enough to have had the teachings of Chuck they could have been multi-year pro-bowlers!

I still contend that the decision to put in Rob Morris at SAM was just as big a move for the 2006 post-season defense as Sanders coming back.
Poor old Rawb might have been a bust as a MIKE but they really missed the boat by not trying him out at SAM sooner. The 2004 and 2005 teams might have been a whole lot better at stopping the run.

I don't think it was that big of a deal at all. I think just getting Gilbert off the field did wonders. Morris was ok but fans overrated his play.

Agree with this 100%..... Rob was so mediocre for so long it said a lot that they threw Gilbert Grape out there instead of him to start with. Grape was so damn awful so yet it was good to get that POS off the field. Could have put a tackling dummy out there and got improvement!

Damn, Caldwell is #8. That's fucking crazy !!! It's funny and sad that Hue Jackson has one win in the past 2 years, and is ranked ahead of Pagano.
Yes, there is no way Caldwell is 8th.
Rodgers is out for half the season, and the Lions still can't win a division.

Chuck had a good run, it's just a dam shame how people can shave their head rally around a mans illness then turn around and talk shit about him like he's the worst coach ever. Same motherfuckers wearing the Chuckstrong T-shirts and crying when he returned. He's not a great coach, but not nearly as bad as everyone here made him out to be.
He'll get another job and he'll have success

Great story at the beginning. Cancer sucks and going through treatment and recovery is awful. But he is just a terrible HC. Sure, some go overboard here with their nicknames for him, but come on, its a fan board.
He needs to go back to being a DB coach and stick to that, imo.

Any team that hires Pagano as their new head coach after it became abundantly clear how awful he was with the Colts deserves everything that they get.

Pagano WAS one of the worst coaches ever, and he subsequently deserves the criticism that he receives. Just because he survived cancer at one point in his life and deserved (and got) plenty of sympathy because of it doesn't give him a pass for the rest of his life in terms of critiquing him for the job(s) that he does in the remaining years of his tenure in the profession.
The concepts of having sympathy for (and rallying around) a person who has cancer, and then lambasting that same person for countless horrible coaching calls that he made over the subsequent multiple years that he was in charge of a football team are not mutually exclusive.

Yeah, whatever ........ college, high school, Pop Warner. If any current NFL owner even dreams of hiring him as the head coach for their team, he ought to wake up and apologize.
o
and to say he's one of the worst coaches ever is just a flat-out joke
o
The only flat-out joke is your continued defense of this clod.
The fake punt that he called against the Patriots alone should have warranted a drug test. It was easily one of the most (if not THE most) embarrassing moments ever for a head coach in the history of pro football.
His numerous gaffes since then have made the team considerably worse than they are. The 2017 team in particular was/is reminiscent of the Washington Generals, a team that continually lost to the Harlem Globetrotters in the final moments of almost every game as part of the show ........ except that unlike the Globetrotters vs. the Generals, the Colts vs. their opponents in NFL games are not supposed to be a show/a mockery/an imitation of a professional wrestling event.

Again all you can point to is the fake punt that wasn't supposed to happen
Every coach takes a gamble, sometimes it pays off sometimes you get burned. I recall Mcafee running fake punts surprise onside kicks that were successful etc. and this season is a fucking wash how can you even gauge this season to blame the coach when everybody is injured and yourstarting QB was a mystery all season is just Phillip Wheeler pile jumping at this point

No he did not try to be Dungy. In fact he fired Ron Meeks and hired Larry Coyer. I believe he also got rid of Gene Huey, who was a great RB coach.
So Caldwell definitely tried to forge his own identity. He just made poor decisions in doing so.

The point is, all the excuse-making you make for Pagano could apply to Caldwell.
Both were coaches held afloat by great QB play. Both collapsed once said QB missed a season. Defending one while having a crush on the other points to personal bias.

One stat sums up Pagano's failures with the team :
In six years he did not once beat the Pats or the Steelers. 0-12 total.
That is your biggest competition, or should be if you expect to make a SB, and never once beat them.

Steelers have won games and survived with injuries to Roethlisberger on multiple occasions.
Packers have managed to stay in contention before for a good part of a season without Rodgers.

The idea is correct, but the facts are wrong. The Colts are 0-9 vs PIT or NE in the Pagano era.
Cheats losses = 2012 / 2013 playoffs / 2014 / 2014 playoffs / 2015
Steelers losses = 2014 / 2015 / 2016 / 2017
Not quite the same as 0-12 but, well, close enough.
