View Full Version : If I’m Chris Ballard, for the next month, Joey Bosa’s agent…

Is my best friend.

From all we hear, Plan A was Trey Hendrickson. I won’t pretend to know what they offered, but they couldn’t get his signature on the bottom line. There might be better options for Plan B, but I don’t want to ship the rest of our 1st round picks for the next 4 years to Los Angeles for Maxx Crosby. So, desperate measures are needed, and, while it might not help, there’s never any downside to sucking up. So…

Plan A for Plan C would be

Call his agent, every day, just to say hi and shoot the breeze.
Send his wife flowers.
Buy his son a puppy.
Send Carlie Irsay out to his house to wash and wax his car.
Enroll him in the Cheese Of The Month Club.
Send him Omaha Steaks…the deluxe box, no burgers or hot dogs.
Cater a lunch for his office, lobster rolls and champagne for everyone.
Fly him to Augusta on the team jet for a round of golf with Tiger.
Get an airplane to fly over his house and skywrite San Francisco sucks.
Have Taylor Swift go to his daughter’s birthday party and sing happy birthday.
Send Santa to his house with the pony he never got as a kid.
Have Daniel Jones mow his grass.

I think that’s what a lot of quality free agents must have said to Ballard this offseason. Can’t blame them.

There must be a reason he has not signed with anyone yet. I was thinking the same about going after him but he has really fallen off the last few years

My guess is that no one is signing him because they don’t want to lose a compensatory draft pick.

I do not recall the rules, but there is a date on the calendar when that goes out of effect. It is possible teams are waiting for that date.

Pretty sure it’s the day the draft is over.

Brittle and overpaid.

Would have been a tremendous idea 5 years ago.

Brittle and overpaid.

Would have been a tremendous idea 5 years ago.

Over the past 2 years, he’s missed 3 games. Last year, he played 631 snaps.

He had 54 Quarterback pressures. He had a plus 15% pass rush win rate, which placed him 20th among edge rushers. His pass rush grade at PFF was 88.7, good for 7th.

Don’t get me wrong. He’s no longer a Myles Garrett type force off the edge. But, Trey Hendrickson is off the board, and I’ll admit that I’d love for the relationship between Maxx Crosby and the Raiders to deteriorate to the point where they are willing to unload him in exchange for a day 3 pick. But, I also have high hopes for the flying pig experiments ongoing at Indiana State.

The other name being bandied about is Jonathan Greenard. The question is how much the Vikings want for him. They don’t have much cap space, and his cap number comes in north of $22 Million. Reports are circulating that the price might be a 2nd day pick in the draft. If it’s a 3rd rounder or even a pick this year and one in 2027, I’d happily pull the trigger and give him the new contract he wants.

But, if it’s a 2nd, I might decide that a wiser path is to ante up for Bosa and use that 2nd rounder on Jacob Rodriguez or one of the other high upside Linebackers in this year’s draft.

If the Vikes will take a 3rd rounder and AR, then I'm all in on Greenard.

If you look at the resumes of Trey Hendrickson and Joey Bosa, you wonder why the one who spent most of last season injured was projected to get $30m+ per year and got a 4 year/$112m deal while the one who was healthy and productive all last season still sits available in free agency and was projected to get a 1 year/$12m deal. If he can be had for anything near that, he'll be the bargain of free agency.
