In my rat's ass of an opinion, Jonathan Taylor is an MVP-caliber running back ...... and MVP-caliber running backs are capable of running rampant, even if the opposing defense is great, and even if his own quarterback is 44 years-old with the mobility of a wooden chair.

I think that Taylor will have an excellent game today, in spite of the proverbial deck being stacked against him.

Take heart, Mr. Rivers ...... here's a couple of older veterans who didn't do too badly in the 1970's.

In 1974, at the age of 40, Jurgensen won his 3rd NFL passing crown

The crystal ball is in the shop for repairs so here goes.

This game and all others moving forward are essentially playoff games barring a collapse by our nearest competitors for the 4th or 7th seed. Rivers has a Herculean task ahead of him but I’m oddly comfortable with him squeaking out a win if we can manage a pass rush that produces sacks and turnovers. That said, I see one of two outcomes.
Defense comes alive and essentially wins this game for us. Colts 17-14
Taylor plays lights out while Rivers is efficient along with solid D. Colts 23 -17.
Either way the D needs to bring it for us to win. Unless we get some unexpected defensive or special teams score or some incredibly short fields I can’t see them generating more than a modest score. I’m sure check-downs will be a big part of the game plan so I pray Rivers doesn’t telegraph those balls. We could see a pick six real quick if Rivers can’t look off those corners. Rivers was a master of play-action if given just a little time. I wouldn’t expect it, but if he shows out it will be a product of play-action off of good protection.

The problem with this is that our pass rush, especially with Defo out, isn't capable of doing this. Unless something crazy happens SEA should win in a blowout, and if/when they do my BetMGM account will look much better.

It would have been interesting to see Anthony Richardson take the field. He might have answered questions about his mechanics and professionalism. Unfortunately, in a cruelly humorous twist of fate, people who claimed that he could get injured while soaking in a hot tub were proven right.

If the football gods look down on us and somehow grant a miracle and we win and eventually make the playoffs ( a huge if I get it) this could be interesting. Monday Night Football, Bert Jones returned to the Colts to lead the team to a victory to keep their dim playoff hopes alive.

I was in 8th grade at the time. I remember Mike Curtis was playing in his final season for the Redskins. Curtis wanted to hit Bert when Bert slid feet-first near the sidelines just before halftime, but Bert's feet prevented him from doing so.

In 2010, I remember a game in which the announcers pointed out that the Colts were keeping at least 7 men in to block on almost every pass-play from scrimmage for the entire game, emphasizing protecting Peyton Manning above all else.

I suspect similar strategy today for Philips Rivers.

I dont necessarily disagree with the decision to sign Rivers. They were kind of backed up against the wall.

I don’t think he should be starting today though. That’s absolutely insane. Rivers should have been the emergency option today.

The fact that they drafted Leonard and he’s healthy and not playing is not a good look for the coaches.

If he’s that bad, why is he on the team? Why did they draft him?

I'm talking crazy here, but I suspect that the Colts want Riley Leonard to take over the reins after this game, either against the 49ers or against the Jaguars ...... I think that the Colts want to make sure that Rivers plays at least one game, just in case Leonard gets hurt in a future game ...... considering the fact that Rivers has not played in 5 years, the Colts want to make sure that he gets some in-game experience in a non-conference game just in case they need him to come in off the bench in an intra-division game if Riley gets hurt against the Jaguars or the Texans.

Keep it up old man. 10 of 16 for 81 yards and a passing TD. More importantly, he is controlling the clock. Long way to go, but he's doing better than I expected. How about the rest of you?

That injury to Raimann forced us to use a time-out, which saves some time for the Seahawks on the other end ...... a bad break.

Hopefully the D keeps playing well.

I'm getting some vibes that are somewhat reminiscent from the 2014 Colts' upset win over Peyton Manning's Denver Broncos in that season's divisional playoff game in Denver ...... the underdog road team in the all-white uniforms are hanging in there in a big road game, as they did in that game 11 years ago.

o

I'm also getting some vibes that are reminiscent of Jim Harbaugh's 1995 team in the 1995 AFC Championship game against the Steelers ....... the underdog road team in the all-white uniforms literally hung in there until the final play of that game.

It's the start of the 4th quarter, and the Seahawks only have 9 points ...... at worst, the Colts' defense has been bending-but-not-breaking.

The Seahawks defense has been on the field longer than the Colts' defense, so I doubt that the Colt's defense is wearing down.

Yep, one play and the Seahawks are pretty much in FG range. These new kickoff rules make it where teams only need 10-20 yards (depending on their kicker) to reasonably attempt a game-winning or game-tying FG.

There's that Colts defense we know. Absolutely can not get off the fucking field when you absolutely needed it. The experiment with Rivers needs to end today. He can't roll out. He can't scramble. He can't throw it more than 15 yards. No zip on the ones he does throw. I do not give a fuck about feel good stories, or atta boys we almost got it!

In my rat's ass of an opinion, Jonathan Taylor is an MVP-caliber running back ...... and MVP-caliber running backs are capable of running rampant, even if the opposing defense is great, and even if his own quarterback is 44 years-old with the mobility of a wooden chair.

I think that Taylor will have an excellent game today, in spite of the proverbial deck being stacked against him.

o

o

Taylor didn't run rampant, but he still had an excellent game ...... he really did well to keep a lot of pressure off of Philip Rivers.

I thought we'd get smoked today, so the loss isn't surprising in the least. But to come so damn close only to lose like that turns into what I thought was going to be a "no sweat, who cares, stress free" loss into a crushing, "fuck this shit" loss.

That more-or-less ends/kills our playoff hopes so now I can really go into "fuck it" mode.

Has a team ever had this big of a collapse? We were 8-2 and legitimately looked like the best team in the NFL. Our point-differential through the first, what, 8 or 9 games was historic? All indicators pointed to us winning 12+ games and making the playoffs. Yet, at the same time, is anyone surprised this has happened? Obviously the Jones injury made this loss eminent, but this has to be up there with one of the worst collapses in NFL history, yet for some reason not surprising.

Ravens in 2021 were 8-3 and finished 8-9. Lamar Jackson got sick if I remember right, then returned for two games and didn't look like himself, then fucked his ankle up and missed the final month+.

Sounds familiar.

I feel like Pittsburgh really exposed us and gave everyone the blueprint on how to beat the Colts. Stop the run, blitz often, and make Jones beat you through the air. Then Buckner and Ward get hurt. Jones breaks his leg and can’t move. Everything just kind of happened at once. I still think we are a top 10 team when heathy. Thats what’s frustrating to me. Can’t overcome all these injuries.

Really, Seattle played that perfectly. The Colts could have gone for it on 4th down but they were behind. If the game had been tied, it would have been defensible. As it was, they had to kick the field goal.

Seattle played that brilliantly.
