Excellent news! Get Flus on the line, or Saleh

'll start with Bradley because he is the most likely domino too fall. Candidates I think that the Colts should consider are;
Eberflus: Hey, he had the 9th ranked defense before he left, he preached and got turnovers, no loafs, and hustle to the ball.
Rex Ryan: Only because the culture change would be seismic.
Rob Ryan: " " "
Robert Saleh: I'm in the corner of meh on this one, because I've heard from the talking heads that he plays a very similar scheme to Bradley.
Mike Caldwell: My surprise candidate. He did a damn good job in Jax before numb nut Pederson fired him. Now look at the sad sack Jags defense.[/QUOTE]
I'm adding Jerrod Mayo and Lou Anarumo to this list anyone have a favorite?

Bring Flus back. He may have sucked as a HC, but he had us in the top 10 in defense and didn't tolerate loafers.

His contract was up anyway. Who is the next "bend but don't break", Tampa 2 guy we're going to get? Y'all know coaches and whatnot far better than I do, but I seriously doubt the defensive philosophy will change very much.
Good luck and goodbye to Gus though.

No to Flus & don't forget they were going to fire him if he didn't get the Bears job

Lou Anarumo or Saleh should be the first calls.

I would choose Anarumo between those two. He absolutely got hosed in Cincy, because they are cheap bastards.

Glad it happened & had to happen but make no mistake about it, Ballard used Gus as a scapegoat to keep his job.

Had to be done. There was no way they could bring him back.
As for a replacement, I wouldn’t mind having Eberflus back.

Believe it or not I ran into Bradley tonight. He swears he got a raw deal and bragged about how he was so quick to land on his feet. Says he's gonna prove everyone wrong. I'm unconvinced. He shorted me a Big Mac.

Tend to disagree. Ballard kept his job because Irsay wasn’t willing to tear the team down to the studs and start over.

To some extent, if I had been Ballard, I would’ve fired Bradley because I’ve invested a lot of capital into pass rushers…guys like Paye, Odeyingbo, Latu, Ebukam, and Lewis, and Gus was never able to forge them into anything that resembles an effective unit. None of those guys might be the second coming of JJ Watt or Reggie White, but there are plenty of Coordinators who manage to pressure the passer without a pair of Hall Of Famers manning DE.

I won't be surprised if they hire from within: Charlie Partridge.

That will not happen, the guy has never coached anything other than D-Line. If Steichen has any balls he...DOES NOT LET CHRIS BALLARD make the choice.
Steichen needs to live or die with his guy.

I'm not staying I want it to happen, just that I wouldn't be surprised. They wouldn't have to do a search or change much of anything defensively, and it would be cheaper. Then, if it fails in '25, they could scrap the whole bunch and start completely over. GM, HC, OC, DC, QB all gone at once.

In all likelihood, the whole bunch will be scrapped anyway.

Rex Ryan and Robert Saleh are getting interview requests for head coaching positions...so they will probably exhaust those possibilities before pivoting to coordinator jobs.
There has also been talk of a few guys who have overlap with both Steichen and Ballard's past work histories - Chris Harris, Steve Wilks, etc. If nothing else, there may be one or two of these guys in the initial interview line-up.

Rex Ryan would be a drastic shift in scheme. Way more complex. He's also not a "nice guy." I see the appeal.
But somebody help me out with Saleh... I'll have to look more into him, but doesn't he employ the same scheme that everybody bitches about? He worked directly under Bradley in SEA and then followed him to JAX.
The 2019 49ers, which gave him the Jets HC job, had the 4th lowest blitz-rate in the league.
I'm not condemning him as an option, I just don't understand hating our scheme, but wanting Saleh.

Yep, Saleh is Gus Bradley 2.0 - the slightly upgraded version.
Scheme would be very, very similar although Saleh seems to get a bit better results.
Anyway, the 49'ers apparently want him back as their DC once he finishes with the head coaching interviews.

Yeah that doesn't make sense. I'd like someone that's more like Mike Zimmer or Brian Flores.

Adding Steve Belichick.
Adding Steve Wilkes, who we are apparently interviewing.
Would also like to add Jim Leonhard, who I think would be a good candidate.

I was pretty impressed with Flores. That game gave me a flashback to Ryan's '06 Ravens or the unorthodoxy Belichick would throw at Peyton.
Don't really see teams poaching coordinators unless it's for a promotion. Any names out there from this style?

I imagine Bradley thought the 49'ers were the easiest pathway back to Defensive Coordinator.
No doubt, the 49'ers wanted Saleh back as DC. But there was still interest in Saleh as a Head Coach this off season - he interviewed with 3 different teams.
And there were rumors that Bradley was one of San Fran's back-up plans for DC if Saleh had landed another HC gig.
Now, Bradley just has to hope that Saleh gets another HC job in the next year or two and then Gus either steps up to be the 49'ers DC or follows Saleh to the next team.
