The whole thing seems kind of ridiculous and IMO it started when Irsay said they decided not to have the surgery done when he missed all those games due to the lacerated kidney issue because they thought time would heal it. Since the surgery the secrecy that involved some of the most cryptic bullshit from all the main characters has contributed to the Colts beginning to look like an organization that could rival others for being dysfunctional.

We do look childish. It's discouraging to hear the local guys all sort of provide cover for all this clandestine BS from the team (though DD and Kravitz both seemed to sink their teeth into the very latest from Irsay with the interview last week where he explained that Luck will only come back when he is ready to come back--- no shit Jim!).
Nationally they take a fair amount of heat for how this whole Luck thing has been handled and rightfully so. I read one article flat out calling Irsay a liar in regards to Luck's health simply to prevent a collapse of the ticket base- and sadly I am not so sure I don't ascribe to that notion. What's the downside for Irsay if he keeps the spirits up by falsely claiming he's gonna play somewhere between weeks 1 and 6 but he doesn't? So we lose the 53rd man from the roster- so what. However if the buying public knows Luck is not going to be on the field, look at that home schedule during that time- those games become near pre-season games from the public's perspective. Sure some will turn out for Bruce's return the 2nd week, but Cleveland, the 9ers, the Jags? TV coverage would not be able to hide the stupid level of empty seats for those games. So I can buy into this premise that Jim knows Luck is not playing, potentially much deeper into the season if at all, but just can't bring himself to tell the world that for support reasons.
To me this is on par with both the disasters that were the Edge and Bob injury situations. The team managed to mangle both of those situations. As great as Edge was and as instrumental as Bob was to bringing home a title- you can replace those positions quickly and the fall off is not that significant, a once a generation QB- not so much.

One thing people fail to realize where Irsay is concerned, is that he's seen how all of this plays out before, when the franchise QB, has a severe shoulder injury and is allowed to be rushed back into action before he was healthy.
Bert Jones.
Bert Jones shoulder injury in 1978 basically ruined his career and ruined the hopes of another lackluster franchise (Baltimore Colts) for years to come.
You think Irsay wants to see that scenario played out again, under his watch? That's why he's pushing Luck to take it slow and not come back until it's a virtual certainty that not only will Luck be better, but he will not suffer any setbacks or risk of re-injury.
I also do believe that Irsay IS keeping Pags at arms length away from Luck, so that Pags won't be trying to convince Luck to come back too soon.
Do I believe that Pags has not seen Luck throw? Of course not. In fact I believe that he's seen enough that he thinks Luck could come back now.
But Irsay is pulling the strings, and you can see the frustration from Pags because of it. He knows that he can't coach this team to save his job without Luck.

My thought too, he's not going to play for at least two weeks, so he makes a few mistakes, this is a lost season anyway you cut it. I heard a rumor that he went to Stanford, so he just might be smart enough to pick it up sooner than you think!

Fully deserved, 100%! I love this team but I am rapidly losing my cool with the way this whole organization operates. Jim needs to step aside ASAP and let his daughter get this thing turned around- and that starts with Choppy being sent packing. Good man, probably another in a long list of good coordinators who make bad HC's, miserable head coach incapable of executing the broad role bestowed upon him.

Well, for one by not creating an O-line that can protect their franchise QB, and so Luck has been often injured, but then with all the secrecy with what's actually going on with Luck and his recovery and timetable to return.
Also, they were blasting Pagano and his comment that he hasn't seen Luck throw a football yet, and how he is staying in his lane. Mentioned he's the freaking head coach, everything is in his lane.

While I don't like Luck being out, I really don't have a problem with how Luck's status is being handled.
Just pisses off the media because they are keeping things as tight lipped as possible and they have nothing to report.
There is no need to rush him back to play for a few early season games. Especially when Kelly is out now too, so his risk of reinjury is even higher.
ESPN doesn't know crap about a team like the Colts. If its not the Pats, Cowboys, Giants, Steelers, they really don't pay much attention.

Pretty much everything including the initial approach that time would heal his shoulder. Perfect time to do it was middle of 2015 season when he had to miss the last half of season. Then again maybe Luck didn't want it done, what the hell do I know. I find it odd that the guy with the repaired shoulder never days anything of substance regarding what is going on. Apparently Pagano can teach something with an assist from Irssy, how to speak in cryptic bullshit and say nothing.

You do realize Clappy's record in season openers is 1-4 with the only win coming at home against a really bad Raiders team who only won 4 games that year. And after blowing a 14 point lead we were lucky to win that one.

The Colts could actually win the opener and some games in the first month even if Luck is out.
not saying they WILL do that, but even without Luck, the team SHOULD be able to go 2-3 or even 3-2 vs. the rams, Cardinals, browns, seahawks and 49ers.
But yes, Clappy Mcwoodchipper does nothing to improve those odds.

We're not sure about Goff... I'll give you that, but the Rams have had a good defense for awhile now.
They're offense was a joke under Jeff Fisher, so its gotta be addition by subtraction on that side of the ball. If they are able to put 24 points on the board, they'll be hard to beat with that defense imo.
Aaron Donald is holding out, so who knows with that situation.

Take a look at their roster. It's not what it used to be on the defensive side of the ball.
If we can't beat the Rams, it will be because we got out-coached once again, not because of any talent disparity.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Andrew Luck (shoulder) is likely to miss "several more weeks."
The good news is Luck is nearing the end of a strength-building program for his surgically repaired shoulder, and can "finally see the light at the end of the tunnel," per La Canfora. Unfortunately, Luck hasn't even resumed throwing yet and the Colts don't even have a timetable for Luck to resume practicing, although it's expected "sooner rather than later." Either way, fantasy owners who drafted Luck can't expect to have him for perhaps upwards of a month, if not more. All Colts skill-position players around him will be severely adversely affected in weekly box scores.
