Over the course of the season, who has been the standout rookie?

Pierce

Raimann

Woods

Flowers

Cross

Thomas

My first thought was Pierce, but that could be un-recency bias.

Interesting. I have been completely underwhelmed with Pierce's ability to get separation this year. I would have put him sixth out of the ones I listed.

But that's why I was curious about others' opinions.

Oh I agree, he's been fucking invisible after the first 4-5 or whatever games.

Mostly it seemed like he was a talent those first 4, and I find it hard to evaluate anyone in the last 12.

Gotta be Pierce but that’s like being the tallest midget.

Is this even a question?

Who has contributed anywhere close to Thomas this season?

Forgot about Thomas, pretty impressive.

But Raimann was just ranked 7th best tackle in the league since week 12. Not rookies, but the whole league.

I voted Woods...but Pierce never had a chance to excel with this offense, his time will come!

What is that ranking based on out of curiosity?

raimann

You're right. They're actually closer in snap count than I would've thought (605 to 580). Thomas has just been in there since he bumped Nick Cross in Week 3. Raimann basically had to wait until Week 9 before he got sole possession of LT.

Well, I agree.

But not everyone does, thus the...question.

You're good. I was too hasty. They almost have the same snap count which surprised me. Raimann at LT obviously is a bigger impact all else equal.

Real quick on all these guys...

Pierce has flashed that he can be a downfield playmaker. He may not end up as a total route tree guy, but if we get a QB that can threaten downfield consistently, A.) he'll make plays and B.) it'll aid underneath routes for him (and everyone else).

Woods, even more than Pierce, looks like he can be a real weapon going forward with a proper QB. We still need a lunchpail type of TE.

Thomas was unexpected for me coming in, but he can play. Nick Cross is still exciting to me going forward. He's a full three years younger than Thomas and Blackmon so give him time to digest the mental part.

Raimann needed to be thrown to the wolves. The early rotating, the injury, then pulling him in and out until Week 9 all hampered him. He keeps getting better. If he can hold down LT for the foreseeable future as a #77 overall, that's great.

Hard vote because of the QB / shitty season but I went with Rainman I think after being thrown in the fire dudes actually played pretty good

So did I. Ballard found a gem in that guy. Not that the others are slouches, but he looks like the real deal, and should only get better.

It was a toss up for me between Raimann and Thomas. But I essentially chose Thomas because he has started more games, outplayed a pretty good player in Julian Blackmon and had the least expectations.

He’s quietly had a really good season.

I think its block win rate. Its from PFF. If you agree with their evaluations or not.

Another solid draft, particularly considering the Colts traded away their 1st round pick.

Hopefully 6th round TE Andrew Ogletree will add to quality of this class when he returns from injury next year. He showed promise in preseason.

I only picked Pierce because I really haven't paid much attention to this shitshow since probably week 1. The few plays I liked were Pierce's catches. I just don't tend to watch the support people: o-line, db's, etc.

I really had to think about this one.

I think the big Austrian warrants considering, but I hesitate because ultimately he has contributed to the poorest O-line performance here in decades. He certainty wasn't flawless and had his share of mistakes.

Pierce was too inconsistent, but flashed. If we are docking Pierce for bad QB play, we have to do the same for Rainmann and the O-line play.

I voted for Woods, because his issue wasn't inconsistency. He was the unfortunate culprit of simple underutilization. He has surpassed expectations every chance he was given, and started his career with two catches for two touchdowns. He will be a player for us.

Thomas probably deserves it because he basically became a starter in a solid D unit, and contributed. Having said that, he is part of a much better unit than the aforementioned O players, and therefore he ends up looking better.

My vote stays with Jelani! Put a few pounds on his frame and refine his route running, I like what we have there.

Thomas was 2 for me and Woods was 3. Raimann got tossed in to starting LT as a rookie, and he's holding his own and improving. That's it. That's why. WRs can't really be judged because our QB play is so bad.

It has to be Thomas, he has done his job to a high standard every single week.

I like Raimann, Pierce and Woods, but they have not been consistent week to week. Flowers also looks like he could be a decent depth player, with special abilities in the return game. Nick Cross was very disappointing and barely saw the field of play all year for the defence, we gave up a 3rd round pick from the 2023 draft and our 2022 5th rounder to move up to select him as well. that is not to say he won't produce next year and going forward. But for this season he did little to nothing.

Whilst we are talking about safeties, i think that Rodney McCleod has played really well.

i disagree based on the difficulty of position.

it is much easier to be consistent playing deep safety than being the LT getting thrown to the wolves

ukcolt

I agree that it is much harder to play left tackle overall than the safety position, but i would caveat that with the fact that there were a lot of games earlier in the season where Raimann wasn't particularly great. He has started 10 games, the first couple he didn't play that much and was part of a rotation from memory. If you were to say he has properly started and completed 8 of those games, 3 were below average, 3 average, and then 2 above average, would that be a reasonably fair assessment of his performances? I would say even in the poorer games, there were still traits shown where you could see he had the ability to succeed.

I like him, and think he is going to be the future going forward at LT. It is nice that we have a few rookies, who have shown potential to be significant contributors going forward from the 2022 class. Pierce, Raimann, Woods and Thomas are likely going to be long term starters, with Eric Johnson, Cross, Ogletree and Flowers being significant contributors for the team as well, this was an excellent draft, so far at least

While Nick may be a member of the board, it unfortunately wasn't him. It was me. I meant to vote for Thomas but wasn't paying enough attention and accidentally clicked on Cross. Not sure if I can change it, but I decided to leave it as Cross to see if/when it would get noticed. Also, I thought you guys would get a laugh out of it.

I was going to say he's probably the next Banogu, but looks like Cross played in all 16 games so he's already seen the field way more than Banogu has.
