Actually, that strategy was a slippery slope at that point ...... Saturday was torn between trying to save time for the Colts' offense should the Raiders score a touchdown, and inadvertently doing the Raiders a favor by saving them time in that final minute of the game.

Either decision (calling a timeout, or letting the clock run) could have blown up in his face at that point.

Both! McDickface is just a worse coach than Frank.

But it's a key distinction, and one that will definitely be answered over the next few weeks. If Frank was the problem, this team will catch fire and make the playoffs. If it's just that the Raiders are terrible, then this game probably cost the Colts 5 draft slots.

o

The Colts weren't just trying a bit, they were trying their darndest to win every game that they could, regardless of the upcoming draft situation.

After starting that season at 0-13, they won their next 2 games, and were only 6 points down against the Jaguars late in the 4th quarter of their season finale......their defense was still calling timeouts after the Jaguars players were tackled in-bounds, and almost got the ball back which would have given them a chance for their 3rd consecutive win, which would have slotted them with the #2 overall pick in the following season's draft.

Probably more important than any of that was the fact that for only the 2nd time this season, the offensive line played well ...... that enabled Ryan to play well, as well as opening up the running game for Jonathan Taylor.

Your demand of the Colts not losing the game was mildly reminiscent of what Mike Curtis said to the team in the locker room after they just barely got by the mediocre Chicago Bears by a score of 21-20 late in the season ...... Curtis ranted and raved at his teammates, and said, ) "We ARE NOT going to lose another fucking game this season !!!"

The Colts did indeed just what Curtis said they would do ...... they won their final 3 regular-season games, followed by wins over the Bengals in the divisional playoff game, the Raiders in the AFC Championship playoff game, and the Cowboys in the Super Bowl.

Saturday made a gutsy call to start Ryan after Ehlinger took all the starter snaps in practice. We all know Frank would have rolled with Sam.

As far as it was against the Raiders BS.... Well Frank would have lost this game.

At the same time I think Saturday wins the games against teams like the Texans and Jags that Frank lost.

I think Frank Reich is a good guy just like Chuck Pagano is a good guy. They just are NOT made to be THE Top guy.

It came down to blocking. I missed the 2nd Jagoffs game, but from the games I've watched this was by far the best game for our OL this year.

Not sure if Saturday lit a fire under their asses or maybe the Raiders DL is just that bad, but if the OL had performed this well since game 1 we'd either be leading the division or at least still in contention.

Who were you wanting at that pick?

I wanted Jenkins but would've been fine with Darrisaw, who is now the starting LT for the 8-1 Vikings. Obviously the medicals on Jenkins were a bigger deal than I possibly could have known. Darrisaw apparently was a consideration at 21 for the Colts, but they went Paye instead. Didn't like the pick at the time because he was Ballard's typical traited up low production DE. I think Darrisaw and Justin Houston would've been a better combo than Paye and Eric Fisher, but I doubt a DE as talented as Raimann falls to Round 3 of this year's draft, but that's definitely a hindsight thing.

Yet so many fans (Dam) said it was a horrible pick.

Not defending Dam, but Ballard should have gone w/ Darrisaw which is what a lot of us on here said back then (including myself). In a vacuum Paye has turned out to be a good pick, but we had a pressing need at a more valuable position and Darrisaw would have obviously fit that need to a T as well as have been great value at 21.

Dam8610
11-13-2022, 10:48 PM

It's not hindsight if you call it at the time. Has Paye consistently generated a pass rush yet? Or does he look like a guy who will be primarily a good run defender and won't generate much pass rush?

Here is a better question: Does this defense struggle more when he is not on the field? Absolutely. Everyone saw it when he missed a game, and again yesterday when he was ruled out during the game. He is a rock for this defense.

if healthy, paye would have probably had double digit sacks. and he was by far the best at getting consistent pressure.

i understand wanting the LT position shored up, but no need to act like paye is a bad player. he was a good pick

There is a gigantic gap between "not an elite pass rusher" and "bad player". I never said he's been a bad player, and he has exceeded my expectations to this point. I doubt he'll ever be an elite pass rusher (think T.J. Watt last year, Nick Bosa, Myles Garrett, Micah Parsons, prime Von Miller, etc.)
