This doesn't sound good to me at all. Maybe he should just sit out the rest of the season...same as Taylor.
Chris Ballard is probably leaving anyway, but those big contracts he gave out are going to haunt us for a while. What a mess.

Leonard's contract won't be too bad if he has continued injury issues this season and next.
The Colts are really only on the hook for next season at which point they could terminate the contract which would result in a $4M dead cap charge in 2024 and 2025 ($8M dead cap total). Not a huge penalty for exiting that contract.

Good thing he’s not a horse, you would have shot him by now

He is going on IR, will miss at the very least 4 games. If not the season.

More tough news for the Colts: All-Pro LB Shaquille Leonard, who had a set-back with his back in practice this week, is headed to Injured Reserve, sources say.
He’s out at least the next four games, and his evaluations will dictate how much more.
Stay thirsty my friend.
Stay away from sharp objects.

Defense is probably better off without him this year
He’s been a liability when he has been out there anyway and he definitely didn’t wanna hit anyone last game

Man if so, that is such a fucking shame, dude has the potential to be on of the best in history. If so, chalk it up to another instance of this organization's long history of really butchering injury diagnosis.

I wouldn't shoot anyone, let alone you racehorse. I just watch the games and say what I think. Jaff just talks too much. Maybe he's part of the organization's PR team? Nah, couldn't be

It's not like he would add much to this shit shown to begin with. The current LB's are doing their jobs.

You all said I was dumb for suggesting a package trade with Hines, Kenny Moore, and Leonard. We could’ve got a lot more for that than a utility back and a low round pick.

He is seeing a neck specialist. Not good

Neck injuries are very scary for football players.
Bert Jones' career ended in the 4th game of the 1982 season because of a broken bone in his neck ...... but Peyton Manning was able to make a fabulous comeback in 2012 after missing the entire 2011 season because of neck surgery (albeit at quarterback, of which the demands of said position are significantly different than that of a body-jarring, head-slamming linebacker.)

Well fuck. Yeah, he's probably done. Worst comes to worst then get him to retire after June 1 b/c that would be ~$4M cap savings vs. ($4M) before June 1 per OTC.

Season-ending back surgery ...... Per @IanRappaport

Good.
Leonard needs to recover physically, mentally, and emotionally ...... and now he can concentrate on that fully, without any distracting notions of trying to get back on the field this season.
And if he does make a complete recovery, the already-solid Colts defense might be that much better in 2023 with a completely healthy maniac back in their midst.

I agree. The benefit of this situation is the emergence of Franklin. When he used to come in for just a few plays, you could see the unfamiliarity hampering his game.
Now he's shown himself to be a real solid LB, probably even a little better downhill and against the run than Leonard... But Leonard's an All-Pro for his range, coverage, and turnovers.
Who knows if we'll ever get to see full strength Leonard, Okereke, and Franklin (even Speed) compliment each other?
we are still right
You are really good at being a dick. Made me laugh

Probably for the best that he's being shut down, but it's not good that he has to have another back surgery :(

Man, I hope his career isn't done but it's not looking good. Neck injuries are scary and hard to determine. I have had one myself, It restricts your turning of your neck and you are always scared of moving it like before for further damage.
Hope he can keep playing. If not thanks Maniac for being on this team and your great performance..
