May need to find another punter quickly.

Colts news— P Rigoberto Sanchez sustained an Achilles injury at the end of practice today. More testing tomorrow, but Achilles injuries usually mean one thing.

I believe this happened at the very end of practice when the team was running sprints. Brutal.

This could be a big hit for us. Damn And WTF? I know a lot of people who run and I don't know anyone who has injured their achilles doing sprints.

Well fuck. That sucks. He's a great punter.

I don't know enough about punters to know if there are any decent ones out there to sign until he gets better.

Matt Haack was cut by Buffalo today. Not good but has experience. I'd take a flyer on him until what we see is available after final cut down.

Pat has way too much other shit going on to come back and start punting again.

Same thought. We've had a good run between Hunter Smith, McAfee, and Sanchez. Never had to think much about it.

Bring cuzzo back from retirement!

Almost certainly going to be a segment on his show tomorrow. Likely complete with a teaser of him coming back. But he's flying way too high with his current gig.

Come on! He would only have to punt once a week, plenty of time to do his show M-F.

While this does suck for Rigo, it is really not the end of the world for the Colts.

What is the talent level between, say, the #10 punter in the league (Rigo) and, say, the #34 punter in the league (whomever we are going to pick up)?

My guess is that there are at least 35-40 guys who are of NFL quality when it comes to punters on rosters or on speed dial. Sure, will they be as good? No, but will their performance have THAT much of an impact on overall team performance? I am skeptical that we will lose much performance.

Some, but not much.

I wish Rigo a swift recovery and hope he is the Colts punter for 2023 and beyond. But if we have to lose a starter to the NFL injury gods whim, this is probably the best one to lose.

There were a few interesting prospects out of the last draft class.

"Dicker the Kicker" actually kicked FG and punted in college.

He was participating in Rams training camp but was recently cut.

He has worked out for the Packers (as PK) and the Jets (as P) the last few days....

He punts AND kicks off. He is top 5 in both. He is a weapon for field position. He holds for the kicker on FG and extra points. Ballard is going to be busy

As Ironhorse had pointed out, and the draft confirms, punters are replaceable (hardly anyone even bothers to draft one). We need one who can kick off. The biggest difference maker with punters isn't having a booming leg, it is being able to put the ball where you want it, inside the 20 yard line and out of bounds. I don't think that is so easy to find. Hopefully I am wrong.

Matt Haack was cut by Buffalo today. Not good but has experience. I'd take a flyer on him until what we see is available after final cut down.

The Colts have signed Haack today. He will be the punter for the time being.

Dicker the Kicker signed with Baltimore to provide some late competition for rookie punter Jordan Stout who was drafted in the 4th round of this past draft.

I thought that Haack looked damn good on Saturday.

The Bills really fucked themselves in the punting department in the space of just a few days.

There has been a lot of talk in San Diego news for a couple of months about this. Its not as if the Bills were surprised last week. If they were, they deserve all the crap that follows

The Colts have signed Haack today. He will be the punter for the time being.

After Haack's underwhelming performance in Nashville, the Colts brought in some punters for tryouts. They signed one of them to the practice squad.

https://twitter.com/AaronWilson_NFL/status/1585060765719052288

Colts worked out Jordan Berry, Nolan Cooney, Brett Kern, and Ty Long

https://twitter.com/KBowen1070/status/1584983501945847808

The Colts have signed a punter to the practice squad.

Nolan Cooney is his name. Never played in a regular season NFL game. Undrafted in 2021.

So a potential punting change after the awful afternoon from Matt Haack on Sunday.

Haack wasn't underwhelming...

-punt from our 40, fair catch at TEN 28

-punt from our 49, fair catch at TEN 29

-punt from our 45, out of bounds at TEN 28

-punt from our 40, finally kicks the ball, but it's a touchback - TEN 25

-punt from our 27, our own guy has to down it at TEN 45

...he was fucking terrible.
